It would be interesting to know why this particular store manager posted the sign. Are there any others up?
Just a quick update:
From what I am told the sign was not there the next day after posting here, I haven't had time to verify.
My understanding is that a manager that is no longer there, put up a sign near the costumer service desk. She had seen open carriers in the store and being from Illinois I think she was supper nervous about it, even when told it was legal. I was told she wanted to put up no gun signs and several employees told her it wasn't a good idea. The sign was put up after I stopped shopping there and a few weeks after a fellow carrier was kicked out of a different Farm and Fleet.
I never did see the sign by the service desk but I didn't really look to hard and I nearly missed the one on the door. I'm unsure why it was removed but, when I took the pic an employee was standing about three feet away as I took multiple pictures because the sign was on a moving door and customers keep coming in. I'm not sure if he mentioned someone was taking pics or if it was all the stuff about being anti-gun, un-American, second amendment, hardest working people my ass; muttering I was doing.
I believe the sign was put up by a rogue employee. The fact remains that it is Farm and Fleet's corporate policy. After the other member's incident I stopped carrying to Farm and Fleet and then stopped shopping after a bit (couldn't stop cold turkey). I stopped referring customers there for services we don't offer at our shop. We referred many, many people there for tires, brakes, suspension and alignments. These are things we couldn't be competitive on and it
was a better value for customers to have them done at Farm and Fleet instead of our facility.
I have been told there have been assaults inside Farm and Fleet, one being an employee was attacked and another threatened by an upset costumer. There was also a case of an employee robbing a manager in the parking lot at night for the money drop, I think that may have been by gun point. I cannot verify either of those so it is just hearsay and should not be taken as fact at this point.
The reason I stopped carrying at Farm and Fleet is because I wanted to make sure I wasn't the one to have the signs posted. I thought this would be a fight we'd fight later and with concealed carry on the way I thought it was better to see how much legal wight no firearm signs would have. It seemed like they had a don't ask don't tell policy and a bunch of us had no issues with carrying and I figured that was fine for a bit. Even with concealed carry people will still print and firearms will still pop into view. In my opinion when a concealed firearm becomes UN-concealed (it will happen), people will really freak out and stores will be posting immediately. We will always be fighting this fight.
I support all businesses rights fully. If they don't want me to carry in there facility I will not and won't even "sneak" in while concealed carrying even if the no firearm signs carry no weight. I also don't want the government to tell them they have to let us in, it's there place and they should run it how they want. It is also my right not to shop there and we
are doing them a favor by telling them why we will not shop there and why we tell others not too. It costs a heck of a lot more money to attract new customers then it does to retain old ones. I would hope if someone isn't happy with me they would tell me instead of never being seen again. A happy customer tells one or two people about your business, an un-happy one tells everyone they know.
