Yes, Spartacus would probably be employee'd by the Sumerian's as a Nay-Sayer. They were actually highly sought after and respected individuals in that society.

And since I was adopted into an American Indian family lets not forget the Heyoka:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heyoka

"Their satire presents important questions by fooling around. They ask difficult questions, and say things others are too afraid to say. By reading between the lines, the audience is able to think about things not usually thought about, or to look at things in a different way."

They have the right to refuse open carry, I have the right to go elsewhere. What's the problem with that?

I swear sometimes you take the opposite position just for the sake of argument.
Yup! The private property defense is tenuous at best. OPEN TO THE PUBLIC has different implications nowadays then it did in the 18oo's. I would say by the reaction on Blain's FB page and other forums in Iowa and Illinois as well as here in Wisconsin, that this is far more than a few thousand. People are fed up. If one person complains and writes about it, there are likely a couple of hundred who just will not shop there any more. This is the kind of black eye; in a horrible economy, that no business can afford.

Taking the Devil's point of view may seem to you to be productive but in reality it is generally just divisive. Why not just ask the question in an honest and non-combative manner. Why not just search for answers without the drama.

Oh I understand the position well Nik. And as others in the thread have guessed I sometimes play Devil's advocate in order to stimulate genuine thought and not just parroting policy.

The point remains that its not as though we are asking them to carry Dickies outerwear instead of Carthart. Sometimes the enactment of no-firearm policies run very deeply at the individual and corporate level and no amount of emails or pestering will change that.

I'm not saying accept it, but simply realize that a few hundred or even a few thousand people boycotting F&F will hardly make an impact on their bottom line which must run into millions and possibly billions in annual sales.

My biggest worry is that after seeing some of the best and worst of the OC movement pass through OCDO that the kooks are the ones writing and emailing letters which will hinder rather than help.

Sometimes the best action is inaction. Leave these few anti-gun businesses alone and as OC and CC become more prevalent they may change their minds on their own or with some slight pressure once they see that there is no danger to them. A negative aspect to media attention may be a domino effect where several businesses see what F&F is doing and follow suit.

Believe me, as one who has owned and operated several businesses over my lifetime if any particular minority demographic threatened a boycott regarding a policy that ran near and dear to my heart, my first response would be very negative.

"Sometimes the best action is inaction."

That comment speaks volumes. We are in this fix here in Wisconsin because we kept quiet, because we did nothing. For years there may have been a lone voice here or there. Now those voices are everywhere. The louder our voice, the more people who speak up, the more recognition there is that we are not a couple of gun nuts but rather a large and growing portion of the population who believes in their right to bear arms and does not want it restricted in Wisconsin. That we have had enough of the BS flowing out of Madison and the rest of the major population centers in this once liberal controlled state.

Do nothing if you like. Me, I will speak my mind. I will write letters and emails. I will protest, picket, and shout if I have to. I will do something...

And why is the sun yellow and the sky blue? I ask for and receive answers differently than you because of my life experience, the same as anyone else here does. Neither "OCDO Speak" or "WCI Speak" has successfully satisfied all the recesses of the question at hand. It is not possible for me to be a cheerleader like so many here are as I am able to see questions from several vantage points as many times there is no black and white.

Try this since it seems to be so popular around here: :banghead:

I have done all of those things you mention at various times and I have learned how to pick my battles.

We have already won the war in the last election after a great effort by many and unless you are Gleason, before you got here and at this time I have developed a wait-and-see attitude. Feel free to adopt any measures you choose but give me the freedom of mine as well.

Since when have we become adversaries?

I am not adversarial. You should know that. (Hint: d _ _ _ _ _)

I was just left in a confused state of mind after reading about the Heyókȟa and the emoticons said it better than words.

But I also noted that Doug exhibited similar characteristics.

More from Wikedia

In addition, sacred clowns serve an important role in shaping tribal codes. Heyókȟa's don’t seem to care about taboos, rules, regulations, social norms, or boundaries. Paradoxically, however, it is by violating these norms and taboos that they help to define the accepted boundaries, rules, and societal guidelines for ethical and moral behavior. This is because they are the only ones who can ask "Why?" about sensitive topics and employ satire to question the specialists and carriers of sacred knowledge or those in positions of power and authority. In doing so, they demonstrate concretely the theories of balance and imbalance. Their role is to penetrate deception, turn over rocks, and create a deeper awareness

Somewhere in forum etiquette rules, I read "attack the post, not the poster". Makes perfect sense to me. Why can't we all get along?

OK, no problemo amigo. Its just that I respect you very much but Hardballer picked up on your undeciphered emoticons with a +1 and I feared another thread-gone-to-hell scenario. I pooped on his parade a while back and he hasn't forgiven me since.

Anyway Vandil picked up on my status here so he gets a gold star.

The thread is about us respecting the rights of others to refuse us into their businesses should they so desire and if anyone has a problem with that I suggest you not boycott an American Business but rather lobby your lawmakers to include gun carriers to have the same constitutional protections as religion, race and creed, etc.

I am doing the best I can while trying to stay cool, calm and collected. It just reminds me that I spent 6 years of my life defending their right of free speech, but they think they are superior beings to me and can deny my RIGHT to protect myself and family.

I did some research. His name is Nathan I replied on the JS page to him but got nothing back yet. I asked if he still lived in Cudahy and that some open carry guys would come and walk around so he could call the cops and see what happens. As long as he's not by a school. He uses his goofy name on alot of websites.

The poster known as natrixgli would be Nathan Gingras information systems administrator from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Why is it always someone with an Art Degree? No offense intended to anyone here that has one, in fact my sister in law has an Art Degree and she is pro 2A / Teaparty member.

Here is his website

http://www.worldideas.org/

I have a mutual friend with him so I can see most of his profile on FB.

Wow, I wonder what he would say if he showed up at one of our LAN parties and saw the hardware we were bringing for show and tell.

Stop arguing on F&F facebook page!

Its occured to me we are going about this the wrong way. Instead of arguing with the handful of antis, just ignore them. We outnumber them several hundreds or over a thousand, to what? 5 or 6?
Instead of arguing in the comments, just keep posting boycotting promises, and they'll get lost in the noise.
Their minds are closed anyway, and don't allow real facts in, to say nothing of their childish behavior.

Agree - don't argue & get emotional with them there. Remember the old saying Don't get into a pis---g match with a skunk, but if you have to make sure you have the wind at your back.

I sure that F&F will soon realize that the anti's posting the nonsense on their Facebook would say when asked "who's Eddie Rabbit?" would answer "a cartoon character." Keep having others contact F&F expressing concern about their no carry policy. The hunting groups in Wisconsin, Iowa & Illinois should also be all over F&F about their policy.

It would be interesting to know why this particular store manager posted the sign. Are there any others up?

bad carma saying poop on the F&F page. hurts. i'd go with; an open carrier is a person of few words, and where he goes his gun, and wallet go with him. 'nuff said.
