Gang member gets life sentence in Good Samaritan killing By
John Diedrich of the Journal Sentinel July 10, 2009 | Like the Good Samaritan, Kevin Hirschfield stopped to help a stranger. But unlike the biblical character, Hirschfield died for his good deed.
The 26-year-old Oak Creek man was gunned down outside a Cudahy gas station in 2003 after he stopped to help a man being beaten by what turned out to be members of the Latin Kings. The gang's leader ordered Hirschfield killed. Three subordinates obliged, pumping 12 bullets into Hirschfield.
One of the shooters, Emmanuel "TuTu" Martinez, was sentenced Friday to life in federal prison. Besides killing Hirschfield, Martinez shot a rival gang member in the head. That man survived. Martinez admitted to shooting Hirschfield and the rival gang member.
More than 30 members of Hirschfield's family and Martinez's family filled the courtroom Friday.
"You took my brother without hesitation and without sorrow," said Hirschfield's sister, Stephanie Mackey. "There is no reason why you do what you do and no excuse. You disgust me."
