This is the final copy of the letter sent.

Blain's Farm & Fleet
Blain Supply, Inc.
PO Box 391
Janesville, WI
53547-0391

To whom it may concern,

This letter is in response to a sign found in your Oak Creek store window.

“Policy

Weapons Free Evironment/Customers. (spelling error BF&F)

“We respect your right to carry a firearm in accordance with State and Federal law.
However, Farm and Fleet is a weapons free environment and we ask you to leave your weapon in your vehicle while shopping at our store.
We appreciate your business and hope you continue to shop with us.”

Below that sign is another that says; "We Welcome Your Check."

I can guarantee you that your stores in Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa will lose customers because of your ill considered weapons policy.

I am giving you three business days from receipt of this letter before launching a boycott campaign against your stores everywhere.

Your policy is ludicrous. What you are doing by putting that sign up is alerting the criminal element in this world to the fact that you are ripe for all manner of mayhem. The sign might just as well say, “Terrorists Welcome” Or “Robbers Welcome, guns are available in the parking lot” Instead; it says: LAW ABIDING, AMERICAN CITIZENS ARE NOT WELCOME.

Your sad attempt to placate the “Liberal Left” has left a sour taste in my mouth for Blain's and I will take special pains to let all my friends know about your anti-American behavior. I have friends in Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. You need to take me seriously because I have the power of the internet, the 1st Amendment and thousands of friends in organizations in three states.

You have an ill conceived policy guiding you. Who do you think will win this little tussle. I haven't even mentioned the picketing of your stores state wide in the spring, fund raisers highlighting your incredibly myopic policy, over 100 people at the last place we picketed. We have thousands of members in three states who will not shop at your stores and will be more than happy to travel hundreds of miles just for the opportunity to stand up for their rights. And that's the short story.

Further, you may consider that you picked a bad time to put your profits in jeopardy.

We are not a bunch of do nothings and have been down this road before. I belong to several Statewide Organizations that will love to get involved. The bottom line for you is that we will definitely affect your profit margin. Organizations including Wisconsin Carry Inc., ICarry.Org. of Illinois and the Iowa Firearms Coalition. I will not hesitate to explain in detail, including pictures, just what your anti-gun, anti-2nd amendment, anti-American policy is. This is not a trifle. There are just too many other choices to shop. Thanks for making the decision easy for us. No price comparison necessary, we just shop elsewhere. Believe you me, you will feel it monetarily.

All I am asking from you is that you simply FOLLOW WISCONSIN STATE LAW. Period. Get rid of the sign and follow state law concerning Open Carry. That or you may find yourself in court, explaining why you allowed criminals to carry weapons in your store, possibly assaulting someone with a weapon that you allowed to be stolen from a vehicle out in the parking lot.

I am quite sure you have no security or metal detectors in place and you cannot guarantee the safety of your customers but you are willing to put them at risk by banning honest, law abiding citizens the right to protect themselves. Criminals do not obey; let alone read, signs or store policies. Especially signs that are misspelled. That is why we call them criminals.

Finally I appeal to your fiscal responsibility. Open Carriers go where they are welcome, they spend their money where they are welcome, and they are fiercely loyal to establishments who allow their rights. Such places as Mechanix LTD. and Starbucks of Racine, Lizzy's green cafe of Kansasville, and gander mountain of Kenosha. all these places report increased traffic and sales due to the presence of open carriers in their establishments.

To this date none have reported ANY problems with the presence of open carriers in their businesses. I ask you to reconsider your position, and re-post a sign that says you allow firearms in your store(s) in accordance with state laws. Open Carriers are a unique and new market that few businesses have explored, and in this economy a new market can make the difference between a so-so year, and a great year in sales.

Thank You for your kind consideration.

I will not spend my hard earned dollars at retail store that slaps me in the face by banning my State and Constitutional Rights.

I will be informing my friends and acquaintances of your prejudice against Americans practicing their Constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms.

Thank you for your kind attention to this note.

Best wishes, [Hardballer].

added on edit: P.S. Good letter kelevra. A little long winded though. Still, Says it well.

criminals under the influence of illegal drugs in Farm and Fleet running from police. Dec. 23rd 2010 Thank-goodness this criminal being chased out of Farm and Fleet in Eau Claire didn't decide to grab an innocent shopper leaving the store and hold them hostage. Considering Farm and Fleet's policy prevents people from choosing to be armed for self-defense between the store and their vehicle its probably safer to shop at the multitude of other stores that sell the same products but DO allow you to choose to carry.

Armed robbery at Waukesha Farm and Fleet. It looks like Farm and Fleet's 'no weapons environment places store management at risk also. What an ill conceived policy:

----

This in from police Capt. Mark Stigler:
On 11/07/09 at 2057, Waukesha Police responded to Farm and Fleet on Kossow Road in Waukesha for an armed robbery. After closing the store, the manager was approached by a masked male in the parking lot who displayed a handgun . The manager was robbed of the store deposits and his vehicle. The stolen vehicle has not been recovered. It is a gray, 2005 Chevrolet Equinox, with Wisconsin plate 738-NWX.
Anyone with information should contact the Waukesha Police at 262-524-3831 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-441-5505.

sent through their website:

To Mr. Gary Hilt:

Mr. Hilt, thank you for taking the time to talk with Nik Clark of Wisconsin Carry and learn about issues surrounding the legal carry of firearms for protection by law-abiding citizens.

I understand the old "no weapons" policy of F&F was made without fully understanding the laws, liability, and consequences, and hope that with better understanding F&F will go back to welcoming law-abiding customers who wish to protect themselves. Better yet, allow your staff to protect themselves. No robber would ever try to hit a F&F.

I carry a firearm for personal protection every day. In the past year + I have been in many stores around the greater Milwaukee area, including banks, and have had no problem (other than one call to police asking if open carry is legal). Several customers & clerks have had questions, but nobody has been alarmed.

Here's a video of a visit to my credit union, from a concealed (pen) camera. Notice that none of the customers, nor the clerk, show any signs of alarm. [Link removed for posting here, part of the project.]

As a law-abiding citizen, I & my family will respect the wishes of the managment of Farm & Fleet and stay out of your stores as long as you have them posted as "legal gun free" zones. You realize now, I hope, that this does nothing to stop criminals from robbing the store, nor from attacking people in the parking lot.
(Here's a news blurb from the Madison area on 08DEC10, talking about how two customers were attacked in a F&F parking lot: http://badgerherald.com/news/2010/12/08/crime_in_brief.php ) Your sign also prohibits on-duty police from entering your store.

I am fortunate in that I may choose from among several area stores for things which F&F supplies. If F&F again welcomes me, I will continue to shop with you.

But it wasn't in the store, so that's OK. :banghead::cuss:

Yes, its know to be corporate policy, but until now, its either been a case of don't ask, don't tell, OR the manager tells the carrier.

This is the first time (IIRC) that it's been actually posted in a store window.

Oh, and their facebook page is really getting hammered! :D

So now that they posted to make it clear what the policy is to EVERYONE, you will make a big deal about it? We knew they were anti gun months ago.

I hit it. We're kicking butt.
I love it when a plan comes together...

Better late than never. This fire needs to be fanned not doused. At least now it is getting nation wide coverage. Now that is cool! I sent letters to Blaiin's and posted in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. They are talking about this as far away as AZ and Cali
