Hometown, its a small cafe on the corner of Lake Mead and Water Street in Henderson. Wife, daughter and I OC, no problem. Good old fashion diner food to boot with very reasonable prices.

At hometown right now. The prices are quite reasonable indeed. And breakfast all day too.

Not a peep from anyone so far.

Today was my first time to open carry. Went to Walmart on sunset an marks for some grocery shopping. I don't think anyone even noticed... We were there for about 45 minutes without any issue.
For my first time, it was a good experience. I was not as nervous as I would have expected. It felt liberating, and I will certainly be doing it more often!

Welcome, Pop. Man, it's been a while since I've been in that store. It's one of the oldest Wal-Marts in the valley. We look forward to hearing more reports and eventually seeing you at one of our get-togethers.

Welcome to the forum. Wally World is the place most people get their feet wet in OC. After a while you won't walk straight without your sidearm.

Welcome Pop! I've only been oc for about a month now and WOW did it get easier. The third time out I think is when I finally felt fully confident in what I was doing. Now I carry in a very obvious fashion. Just educate yourself so that you are fully aware of what the laws are because I have found "that" knowledge to be the biggest contributor to building the confidence in what I'm doing (open carrying). NO ONE is gonna spew bs to me for I KNOW the laws. Amazing at how knowledge really is power.

Anyhow, carried at Lowes on N. Durango. No issues. Carried at Walmart & Sams on Tropical and some people made comments: "you a cop", "you ever get hassled by metro".
Oh, and the best one was directed at me when I was behind the gun counter looking at ammo, "you work here? I assumed you did when I saw the gun". That's funny because while Walmart has no policy against guns for patrons, they most definitely do for employees. Too funny.

Hubby and I carried at Cicis Pizza on Cheyenne. As usual there no issues whatsoever, we are regulars there now and the staff knows our special orders hahaha. Upon leaving I was asked by a random guy if I was carrying a water gun and I said no, he continued to say that it looked like his water gun and was I sure that it was real. I said I can assure you it's very much a real one and he was like well ok then.

Another Casino Trip

Every other Thursday night I go to the Sante Fe Casino to cash my check last 2 times I OC walk right up to the cage and cash my check (note guard station right next to cage) I have to pass by several employees and people to get to the cage from where I generally park.

Good. That's the place where the local Friends of NRA held their most recent banquet. The official policy is one of disarmament there. Several of us attendees and donors boycotted the event with letters to the staff. Not surprisingly, they didn't care.

But if we keep letting these casino guys see us doing nothing but carrying, one day we might be able to change their official policies. Keep it up guys.

I can pretty much guarantee you they didn't notice, or at least a sheeple didn't notice. Wouldn't surprise me if there were 50 people CC in there at the same time.

OC tends to scare the sheeple. Casinos are there to fleece the sheeple. Hard to give a haircut to a running sheeple. 1st time someone notices, you will be asked to leave. It's not an anti-carry thing, they just know the more "comfortable" the sheeple are the more $$ they can get out of them.

the "sheeple" are usually stuck to a screen or table, so no doubt there but I will enjoy my freedom while it lasts

OC tends to scare the sheeple? Interesting, I have been Ocing for almost 3 years, Meadows mall, and Galleria mall, every restaurant, store I have been in, also in heavy traffic Ocing on my motorcycle and never saw such a reaction of scared people. Not saying it does not happen just never seen it to the point that I would testify that is does happen.

Did a Strip open carry for the first time on wednesday. Tourists got a few good pics of me. I was with californians who were constantly worried about cops stopping us haha. Went to starbuck's, the food court connected to planet hollywood(not sure what it is called.) and was stopped by security who asked for a blue card. I said I had one but I have no need to show you or carry one. He then shook my hand and told me to have a good day. By far the best experience I've had. Had some guy stop me on the strip and asked what i was carrying. I told him .45 colt and he laughed and told me that it was a peashooter. He said the 9mm was way better. Obviously he doesnt know his calibers and ballistics haha. I avoided him because he was looking for a fight saying guns are for pu**ies and such. I then carried at the Worldmark timeshare my friends had. Security came by and told me I was ok to carry after he gave me a few weird looks.

Just giving you the casinos POV. Not saying it is correct or incorrect. Shoot, the casinos are so pro smoking rights because they have done study's and found smokers gamble more than non smokers. Now, if you could find a study that showed that OCers gambled more than non carriers, they would greet you with open arms!

It does make me wonder about the situational awareness of the security there. It might be worthwhile to do this. Start keeping notes of dates, times, door you went in and what you do there while OC'ing. On the Nth time when they notice and 86 you, write a letter to corporate complaining about the 86ing, and nothing else. When you get back a stupid boilerplate latter about policy's, etc reply with a letter listing all the times you OC'ed without an issue. Tell them if they are that oblivious to what is going on it only reinforces in your mind that you are on your own for safety in their casino, and you wont be back until they rethink their policy's or hire competent security. You might throw in that you will take your business to Boyd gaming from now on. (Boyd and Fertitta hate each other with a passion)

Giving this alot of thought I really think the most effective way to make oc acceptable to the masses is really just gonna be repetition. You simply can't "talk" the masses into believing anything, no matter how much sense you make. You have to beat it into them.

I'm old enough to remember when smoking was cool and road trips were measured by how much beer you planned to consume enroute - 10hr drive was about a case and so on. Remember those days? When if cops caught you driving with open intox, you could often just pour it out and go on your way. So what happened? Why is drinking and driving a worse crime now than rape? Why is smoking so nasty? Heck, for that matter, why does NOT recycling make you a jerk? Simple answer, CONDITIONING. Force a belief or a view down the public's throat long enough and they will believe it, no matter if it makes sense or not. Religion anyone? Iraq war in response to 9/11? Conditioning. "War" on terror. "War" on drugs. Conditioning.

My point being that while I admire those of us that try to explain all about the laws, the Constitution, our right to bear arms and so on to those we encounter, unfortunately, it will be the constant exposure to seeing people oc that will have the real effect. Thus making it the accepted norm. And I'm sure the majority of you already know this, but like me right now, have a hard time keeping your thoughts to yourself. lol

With that, I ask that all who have the ability to CC, don't unless it's all you can do. OC as often as possible and just maybe in the next 20 years it will become uncool or even a sin to "not arm yourself". Personally, I have become opposed to "legal" CC. If you gotta, you gotta, but it is the reality of paying money for a right you were already guaranteed.

Anyhow, cheers to my fellow open carriers and may our efforts not fall on deaf "eyes" as it were.
Oh hey, with that, I often ask folks, "If you were gonna go shoot up a place, would you pick a school where you are guaranteed that no law-abiding citizen is carrying and therefore the opposition is null or would you pick a police station". An unarmed citizen is a victim waiting to happen.

Carried at the Open Carry lunch in St. Charles, MO 11 August 2012

Open Carry lunch in St. Charles, MO 11 August 2012

So I must admit for my FIRST OC event it went really smooth. I will do at again soon. I am not sure I am up to doing it all by myself yet, I just don’t have the muster to argue my point with the police yet. But feel more than comfortable to be part of a group doing OC. I am sure there are many out there like me? Let us hear from you. You may have reservations about attending one of these events but you never know unless you go? St. Charles is very OC friendly.

http://www.jjsstcharles.com was very friendly. Not as much as one employee even acted funny about us being there and OC. They must be used to it since I hear it’s a regular spot for OC get together. We did have a few looks from the general public, but no cops were called I think? If so they must have told them it’s legal and not responded. We did have a gentlemen stop on way out to ask about OC. Is it legal? What web site do I go to research it? Etc. He was eating near by and was listening to our conversation. We only had 4 people show up for Lunch. At first I was sad about this low showing. Then I got to conversation with David and Marc and found they had wisdom beyond my years. I was happy to speak with them for the four hours we spent chatting about everything under the sun. They were a great group of guys and I look forward to the next OC meet in St Charles or surrounding area.

SO FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!
Let's set a new record for this lunch! New to OC, you are especially invited. If you are on the fence about coming, just do it! Hide your firearm if you are uncomfortable, if you have a CCW that is. Just show up and grown the group so that others will follow. You may be pleasantly surprised as I was. You may make new friends with similar interest? Hope to see you all next time...
