Carried tonight at the Deltaco on N. McCarran in the Home Depot parking lot with my roommate who was also open carrying. We've open carried there a few times before without issue. Tonight though the Shift Leader asked me "Is that thing loaded?" and I replied "Of course it is". He told me to take it to my car and I told him I would just leave. I emailed corporate tonight asking what their policy is on open carry. I'll post the reply when I get it.

No cripple is not a filtered word - I singled out the usage. There is no reason to alienate or insult a segment of our population with ill chosen words. We are still a publicly read forum are we not? That you did not get that message is unfortunate - that you chose to make it a point of contention is more so.

You may be a fan of the First Amend. (I am too) but that is hardly the point. We work hard at maintaining a positive image here and that means applying the rules and making judgement calls. The least effective argument on private property is but I have rights........no, we have privileges.

I see no problem with the word cripple. I am a caregiver for my crippled mom. She has a van with a cripple cart lift. I must say the cripple cart has made it were my mom is able to stay out the old folks homes and able to stay in her own home. I have never met a crippled person that had a problem with the word cripple. For the last several years I have done volunteer work driving a handy cap golf cart as I have compassion for the issue at a very large facility hauling hundreds of crippled and other disabilities persons and never heard one of them having a problem with the word cripple. I do agree with good behavior and careful posting however, I believe not allowed using the word cripple is over the top. A judgment call on my part. A judgment call based on first hand data.

I do get that message, I truly do. That's why I decided to clarify that there is no derogatory intent. I have several relatives that have Cripple-Carts, and they refer to it that way. Hell, where do you think I learned the term? I thought it was hilarious, because they were 'taking it back' (filter test: "Porch Monkey"). Words are only derogatory with intent. I'll admit that my original use was not as clear as it could have been, so I guess without knowing my intent, your moderation is justified, albeit a bit over-the-top PC.

I do get it. Our words here can so easily be taken out of context and spammed all over CNN.

If I had said: "While I was unloading MY cripple-cart......", that would have been OK, right? :)

OK, OK, truce. You got my non-PC panties in a bunch. I just can't ******* stand being ***-****** ******-******* censored. :)

I do want to point out... our rights do not end on private property. They just get preempted by trespass laws. At no point do our rights become privileges just because we set foot on private property. It's just a question of whether those rights are recognized by the property owner, or denied-via-trespass. (TBG taught me this, just recently)

The parallel between private (physical) property and private (website) property was not lost on me. I see what you did there. Well played, my cannon-wielding friend. Well played.

And in case i am not already on thin ice....

Did you know that it has been recognized in U.S. court that (under the right circumstances) DDOS can be considered a valid form of 1A protest? (Anonymous vs Paypal)

No, no, don't get wound up, I'm not implying anything, I just thought it was an interesting related anecdote to the private property analogy.

I respect the forum rules, and understand the need for (most of) them. /salute

You shouldn't have a problem because my wife and I have carried in that Home Depot a few times without problems...

First of all with regard to the use of the word “cripple”, I resemble that remark. I just had to limp over to my puter to tell you so. No, actually I don't refer to myself as a cripple. I call myself a gimp.

Secondly, at no time do you as a living breathing human being lose your rights. It is the "Bill of Rights" not the "bill of Privileges". Nothing sets me off more than someone referring to my Unalienable rights as privileges. I just recently let a gubment lawyer know this in no uncertain terms when I read his letter full of referring to my 5th amendment privilege and not rights.

Off my soap box, the height is making me dizzy.

Yup. Home Depot like the vast majority of shopping business have no problem with OCing. Been in several in different cities never a problem. The only major shopping business I have heard of that does have a problem with it is Costco and the old Boulevard Mall on DI and Maryland. I have not set foot in them for years.

Home Depot policy on carrying = they honor state law.

If anyone runs into a problem with an ill educated employee, recontact Home Depot Corp. Wash, rinse & repeat as necessary.

Yup, a bill of privileges is a bill of goods when comes to the Bill of Rights stance.

Just got off the phone with Robin who is the district manager for Del Taco in Northern NV. She said they don't have a policy on firearms and they follow state local and federal laws when it comes to the issue. She said we are more than welcome to open carry in the restaurants. She was very friendly and apologetic about the employee who kicked us out last night.

FedEx service center near their Reno hub. Interesting, they had a code-locked door (from customer area) signed "EMPLOYEES ONLY" and "NO WEAPONS."

This is great, a few years of OC in Reno/Sparks (and a little Vegas) now with barely any interest/attention.

Fedex has a corp policy of no firearms and team members have to sing a contract to such. . . but will generally fallow state law for customers. If there is a sing up it is most likely due to a past incident. they have a rule of no sign no problem. after all you can ship firearms through Fedex when sending to and/or from a licensed dealer or manufacturer.

I did a little revolver bowling pin match in the desert past Jean today with a few guys from Nevada Shooters. My teammate "loic" and I both OC'd in the parking lot of the Shell station in Jean where we met up. A state trooper complained to my teammate after he parked his open-doored Jeep. He thought there was a hole in his exhaust. He never mentioned our sidearms.

A friend and I went cruising around Reno last night. First we decided to walk around downtown to see what was happening,(nothing as usual, just a bunch of drunk people) and only thing that happened was a bunch of drunk guys thought it would be funny to talk crap to us after they passed us. Then we went to a 7-11 to get something to drink and the clerk asked if we were carrying real guns. We told her they were real and she said that only cops can carry guns. We tried to explain to her that it was completely legal for us to open carry but she insisted that it was illegal. We told her we wouldn't do it if it was illegal. We paid for our stuff and left. As we were getting in the car she got on the phone. Not sure who she was calling.
