We have people from other states post on here from time to time. I see no issue with it. It is nice if they post what state they're in though because I had an experience where I thought someone might have been in violation of 750.234d, but when I found out what state they were in it was not an issue.

and that is why experiences from other states are not appropriate in this thread as they just serve to confuse beginners. and our laws are confusing enough without that....

Oh my bad guys.

I browse the forums with the "new posts" link and didn't realize this was a state specific thread. I thought it was in the general section.

I prostrate myself before you, and beg your forgiveness.

I assure you, that isn't necessary. Mere worship of my awesomeness , without prostration or begging, is completely sufficient.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy IIIs using Tapatalk 2.

Now that is funny....

I'm in Idaho and don't post my carry locations here but I do follow other states threads as to get a better picture of what differences are out there. We don't have a thread like this on the Idaho site since most the people I know are armed most of the time, it is easier to post when you go out and are not carrying...lol

that's true of us here, too, doc. however, the prevailing wisdom amongst us michiganders is that we post our plethora of non-experiences to show the newbs that open carry is usually a non-event.

OC at Arby's

I haven't been OCing lately. Mostly sticking to CC when I am able to carry. Today I decided I'd go get some Arby's for dinner. Threw on my G22 with a spare mag (open carry) and was planning on going through the drive through. This Arby's is attached to a gas station and there is a sign that lights up "drive through open". The sign was off so I figured the drive through wasn't open and I'd have to go inside, fine. Go in and there is a mom, dad, and three young kids. They didn't seem to notice/care. Well I walk up to the counter and see one guy standing in back leaning on a counter and another guy by the drive through on his phone. Neither of them really acknowledged my existence. So I stood there awkwardly for about 15 seconds. Then a girl walks in behind me and says "Hey, welcome to Arby's". The guy behind the counter says to her (kind of jokingly) "which store do I pay you to work in?" She just kind of laughed it off. Then she looks at me and says:

"We don't allow guns in our store Sir"
Me: "Oh you don't?"
Her "No."
Me "Oh, ok" and I turn around to leave.
Her: "I'm just playin'. What can I get you?"

Really not sure I'll return to this Arby's. I understand they're minimum wage works and all, but the customer service was poor and they made it a bit awkward for me to be in there. Also if you tell me you don't allow guns in your store and then I try to affirm that statement and you still say you don't you better not be playin'. I suppose it's good they don't prohibit guns but the overall experience was not good. Oh and on a side note people were going through the drive though. They just didn't turn the darn sign on.

I am in Ann Arbor and 2 1/2 years of OC. Went to Meijers on AA Saline Rd and Jackson Rd. Had questions on OC from a gentleman who had done a double take. Answered some of his questions directed him here and the Michigan State Legal update 86 about OC. And still doing breakfast at Holidays.

Hey, XM that's where your video & voice recordings come in handy. Most chain stores are franchised. I had a similar experience once (minus no gun chat) where it just seemed no one gave a damn. Called corporated instead of the local store. Told gal on the phone the whole story & asked if they would like the video so they could address the issues with the store owner. She said yes, and to also send in my receipt. Shortly afterwards (2 weeks), I get a thick envelope in the mail. Inside - free food coupons for 3 times what our meals cost and a very nice letter thanking me for pointing out the issues and assuring me they were being adressed. Waited another week and went back to the same store. Wow what a change, friendly counter staff, prompt service. I asked where the old crew was, the girl quietly said " this store got hit by a secret shopper & the owner was none too happy about the butt chewing he got from corporate. " I smiled and said "well I'm glad things are better now. "

Video - worth a thousand words & 3 free meals. ;)

On topic OC'd no issues as usual.

Yesterday: Dual OCed at Enterprise Uniform in Detroit. Just as I was walking up to the door a DPD LEO was going inside as well; I thought to myself, "Awwwh !@#$ here we !@#$ing go!" But I was wrong. Much to my surprise, he was cool and didn't try to soft "shoe interrogate" me with the usual 20 questions, nor was he acting all paranoid as if I was someone who shouldn't have a gun. In fact, he didn't ask me a single question - it was great.

That's funny. :) I OC at the Arby's here in Mason, all the time. Customer service has always been great. No one has even blinked an eyelid at my pistol. I did have one guy behind the counter ask what make and model I was packing, but that was pretty much it. Except for one minor hiccup at the Mason Meijer's a couple of years ago, it's not big deal to OC here.

My cold seems better so Yooperlady and I decided to get the convertible out for a ride over to a few places and naturally I was wearing a very red shirt while OC'ing a very black gun at....

Taco Bell in Clio where a gentleman came up to our table, introduced himself, and thanked us for the free meal we gave him a couple of weeks ago... we were going out as he was coming in that day and when he got to the counter he discovered we had already paid for his meal.

Then we went to Carries Caboose for ice cream ... and then took that ice cream to

Montrose Township park where we enjoyed the beautiful weather, the excellent park, the delicious ice cream, and a young mom with 3 young boys took a table close to us to have a picnic.... and although the kids kept checking out the guy with a gun the mom was very friendly and it was obvious she, and the boys, were completely at ease.

Then it was off to Beacon & Bridge to gas up the cute little toy car... and after some friendly banter with the clerk we took off to...

Lamplighter flowers in Bridgeport so Yooperlady could have fresh roses for her kitchen table.

And during all of those travels where my black sidearm stuck out like a sore thumb against that red shirt.....not a discouraging word was heard.

Edited to add:

Will be going to the Frankenmuth gun club later for a picnic and some trap shooting with friends.... OC'ing of course. One would expect OC'ing at a gun club would be a no brainer but I sure got some looks and caused a few conversations when I first started going there.

OCed at Meijers wearing my trusty shoulder holster and heard a comment from a different lane about how "it" should be pointed down. I ignored the comment paid for my stuff and left. How could I have handled it better?

No one likes to be muzzle swept. However, most of the folks who say things like this guy did are the types who also think GLOCK's can magically free themselves from the carriers holster(s) and start floating around shooting everything up. Own many GLOCK's and after 20+ years...not one has tried to "float away"?

On topic OC'd today - some looks but that's the "KALIFORNIANS" in the area for you. They forget they are no longer behind the pot metal curtain. ;) Imagine Canadians moving to MI and stumbling into a park with a OC outing going on...that should give you a good visual of the "AZ transplants" reactions. Me I knew about this place before hand :D Sorry in advance to the (only us MI folks should post here). I still consider myself a MI person at heart. Viva MI! May rights there be expanded! ;)

I was carrying a 1911, cocked locked, thumb strap over the hammer. No way that pistol will magically start shooting.
