Wife and I OC in Jimmy D's about once a month. Wife even chatted with the owner once, no issues. If we wanted to have a get together at times the Hideaway isn't open I would suggest them as a good alternative.

I dont't make it to Jimmy Ds enough. It seems like a hole in the wall dive for lowlifes, but it is not that all. I like that feel even if its not reality.

Anyway, Kitssapper here, new to the forum and reading like mad to get the lay of the land. I have not OC'd since I moved from Virginia about 12+years ago. I should start again so its why im here.

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to OCDO, Coyote_VS_ACME!

I guess I should give Jimmy D's a try. Never even knew it was there. Thanks for the recommendation.

I do not make it out there enough. I need to rectify that...

Anyway, Wanting to make informed decisions on the OC in the area, I am at a complete loss on what kind of holster rig to use that would be affordable (like everyone else in this economy im barely making ends meet but manage a bit of "mad money" from time to time). As well as being affordable and suited for OC since I have yet to get a CPL (to be done in a week or two), Im trying to get an idea of a good rig that might do well in both CC and OC.

If it helps, im left pawed, and my handgun of current design is a S&W 4006.

Years and years ago I wore a cheap left handed nylon holster but on the right hand side cause to me it "felt" better even if it was more time to reach around to draw, as well as the fact in my mind, being left pawed, I do keep my wallet/ID in my left rear pocket, so going for my ID if asked and my hand opposite the firearm is moving to it, would be less concern for a LEO, as well as the fact it is exposed butt first to someone trying to take it from me, but its on the "Wrong" side t most right pawed folks giving me an advantage if it was an attempt to disarm me.

I could be totally out of logic on those, but its what I thought at the time and I still think unless corrected by those more knowledgeable.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome and glad to be here, and hope at some point to join you folks at a meet or whatever in the future.

I an also a lefty and carry crossdraw.
I use Blackhawk Serpa holsters with 4 different handguns for OC as well as CC unless I want to go deep CC. For deep CC I use a Crossbreed holster.

Go down to Boerner's gun shop in gorst, they have bins of used holsters you can cheaply of all kinds, i'd go there and look until you find a holster that meets your needs.

retail, if you want cheap uncle mike's is that.

i use a lefty uncle mike's when carrying. I'm left handed too.

Not much in the way of ocing recently. Just went on a walk by the golf course to try to tone up the damage an office job has been doing for the last year and a half. OCed Taurus pt809c the whole time. No problems from anyone that passed on for or in their cars.

Was out a bunch today, mostly not in Kitsap but some here. Was ocing my xdm in my serpa. My lady was kind of ocing her sr22, she has a Blackhawk iwb nylon holster but is looking for a kydex paddle holster.

Sequim walmart
Just stopped to see if they might have some ammo, they did not.

Sequim - Fred's hobbies and guns
Pretty small place. Looked for some ammo and again no luck

Gig harbor Safeway
Grabbed some food. A guy was side stepping around the deli, not taking his eyes off of my hip. He didn't say a word, though.

Bullseye
Checked for a few things. My lady grabbed a bladetech belt and tried to find a holster for her sr22, no luck.

Mary's pistols
Finally made it down there. There was an adorable dog, i think I spent more time petting it than shopping in there, lol. No luck on an sr22 holster but I found out they're starting up a leather working business for holsters and stuff so well make one or it starts up.

Surplus ammo and arms
Low on ammo and no arms so kind of a waste. Their ffl moved so they're not selling guns right now.

Tactical tailor
Great stuff, always love to go in there but the prices always stop me from purchasing.

Lacey cabelas
Still no ammo I need. Also no guns I was looking for. My lady grabbed a pair of boots. A guy stopped by me and said he loves to see guns on people and that he never leaves home without one and then patted his side. He was concealing but it was printing hard.

So I've checked 2 big5s, cabelas, marys, bullseye, fred's all for a mosin nagant 91/30 and I only found 1 and that was a $600 sniper. I just want a cheap rifle with decent accuracy, not a $600 rifle...I can't figure out why this gun is so hard to find... if anyone wants to get rid of one that is in decent condition, message me a price and we can discuss it.

You came all the way out to Sequim and didn't check the Big5 here?

Sequim was mainly because I like the drive out there, but yeah. Had no idea where the big 5 was or if there even was one. I don't really know much of Sequim. Barely made it to Wal-Mart. Lol

If you see some there, I'll be kicking myself and maybe going back up...

I went over to Big5 to see what they had.
They did not have any surplus rifles.
They did however have a couple dozen new rifles and shotguns.
They had 3 22lr rifles starting at $170.
Centerfire rifles from $360 such as a Remington 3006 with a scope for a little over $400.
The shotguns (pump) were about the same price range as the rifles. A Benelli at $411 and single shot shotguns well under $200.
Ammo no pistol and rifle ammo was plentiful except for 223 and 308.
Prices on everything seemed to me to be pre-hysteria prices.

FYI between freds hobbies and walmart in the safeway parking lot is Brians sporting goods, he usually has some handguns in stock.

I'll have to check them out next time i'm up there. I called the sequim big 5 over the weekend to ask them and they said they didn't have any. Also checked silverdale big 5 and they had the sniper version for $500 (100 under cabelas price) but the guy said no local stores have any and the warehouse is empty of them.

I also tried calling cabelas, no luck. There 2 different people that i've talked to when calling cabelas. 1 was a guy that was very helpful. He couldn't give exact stock or a guarentee, but could tell me if they had a bunch or any at all to save me gas on a trip. The other is the woman i talked to and my lady talked to a few weeks ago. She refuses to say whether a store may or may not have it in stock because it might not be in stock when i get there. She's very unhelpful because i'd rather make the drive with a chance of 1 still being there than go blind.

One of the stumps has been moved out of the way and I didn't see any signs there. I'd try again sometime. I'm probably going sometime this weekend if I get the replacement mag spring for my 22lr. Need to go out plinking more.

So this last weekend my lady and I went plinking. We drove to the pit by mason lake. To my surprise there were 2 layers of stump walls blocking the road and a sign. The sign said it's not open to certain activities and one of those is motorized vehicles... it doesn't say no shooting so it's still open, you just have to go for a hike to get to it. We went to a pit closer to the road further down the road owned by the same company. We didn't shoot much since it was closer to the road and therefore was making a lot more noise for the houses.

Also, was ocing while out there. My lady was also ocing her sr22.

At Ace Hardware

I was waiting in line to order a ton of wood pellet fuel, and a couple spots ahead of me was this good-looking young woman with a young child (I presume hers) She wasn't OCing, but this is what I observed about her

>She had a necklace, adorned with a .357 Sig cartridge (unique bottlenecked shape)
> whenever the guy behind her moved a little closer, she moved away by that much and was attentively watching everyone
Here's the most peciluar thing

> when she came up and payed, she always had her right hand in her purse but pulled a credit card with her left hand out of her pocket

What do you think? I think it's obvious she was concealed carrying

Not being there, doubtful anyone will have the ability to know.
- personally i don't concern about other people being armed, unless i have to, as i wish for them to afford me the same considerations.
- If someone is open carrying, and i happen to like his/her make model, they might get a compliment, but casually.

True, true, I actually as a hobby try to guess if people are carrying by observing behavior, obviously I have no idea how good I am at it since don't walk up to people and go "hey you packing heat?" but still If someone is behaving like a CCer I sometimes take notice. I don't really mind if anyone is legally carrying, it only makes society safer as far as I'm concerned.

A day out hunting ammo and more!

All in all I have to say I have not experienced a more OC friendly area of the state to date. I recently moved back to the Kitsap Penn since living out in Tacoma and Gig Harbor. I spent the day last Sunday checking out the area, visiting multiple stores and ranges, without a single incident or even a single sly stare.

I started out the day by visiting Big 5 in Poulsbo, the staff there are all very friendly and no one even gave me a second glance. I checked out the ammo and nothing popular here. You would be hard pressed to find a single box of .22LR, .45ACP, 9MM Luger, and will likely have to run up to even the $60.00 boxes of specialized hollow-point defense round if you want to grab a box of .38 Spec. I decided that I wanted to invest in a truck gun, so I grabbed a cheap Rossi 'tuffy' 410 shotgun. I realize this is really a youth gun, but the fact that I can almost safely fire this shotgun with one hand makes it an under the seat backup to my sidearm. Also, I feel like it would be a little better than a full size 12 gauge for home defense. I will likely make a different butt stock for it however because the snake charmer style doesn't fit my thumb very well and I have a feeling after a bit of time popping targets it would get irritating. Big 5 +1 for awesome. While I was there I filled out all the paperwork, got delayed, again and bought some .410 for the impending shotgun.

After I cruised down the hill to Walmart in Poulsbo, where again I found that they had no ammo that I need, only thing they carried besides the large caliber rifle rounds were some H17 rounds, blah. I looked around and decided to grab a simple metal plate target for the ol' pellet gun because I am thinking about fabricating some of my own for competition shooting. With that in hand I made my purchases and moved along. Walmart Poulsbo another, +1.

After running out of possible ammo suppliers in Poulsbo I was going to head home but figured today would be a good day to look into the archery scene in this area to see about a place to shoot with others, as well as checking out the Pro Shop in Belfair. I knew that the archery places I wanted to visit were close to each other so I decided to make a day out of it and get all my scouting done. I ended up at Penninsula Premiere Pro Shop and when you go there it feels like your just going to a friends house. Depending on the time you go there are people around getting ready for a round of paintball, archers talking about the latest bow tech and a nice supply of archery supplies, that makes the drive out worth it. Because I have been wanting to also get back into traditional archery, I grabbed up a new Matrix recurve bow, and (12) traditional wooden arrows, fletched by a gentlemen in Poulsbo, WA. Keeping it all around the sound, I was perfectly satisfied supporting a local and was happy with my purchase. They did have some ammo, but a very small amount and the only stuff I could have used was the 9mm Luger. They had a couple boxes but I figured sine I purchased (4) boxes with my Berretta BU9 Nano a couple weeks before I would leave those for the next guy. Everyone was awesome there +1 for these guys.

After the pro shop, I located the KBH Archery Club, because they were less than 10 minutes away. After doing a google search I found this to be the closest 'actual' range to shoot a bow at on this side of the water, so I thought I would see what they were all about. The archery range is gated and member accessible only, but using my secret squirrel tactics I was able to slip in after someone coming out. Good timing I suppose, but its the only way to take a closer look without walking the drive all the way to the end. There were about (6) people there, none of which even second guessed my intentions for OC. I asked one of the guys there who was a member about the club, about some of the upcoming events, and he grabbed me a membership form which can be sent in with the yearly fee of $80.00 for an individual. They have 3D events in the warmer months and a 10-100 yard outdoor range with flats. After watching a few archers sling a few arrows I was back on the road again.

I headed from here back through town and ended up at the Big 5 in Silverdale. They were clean out of ammo as well and after spending a few minutes there took off again, no one saying a thing to me. +1 Big 5 Silverdale.

Last stop of the day for me was the Wholesale Sports store in Silverdale. I have not been to this store yet and figured it was a better deal than Cabelas, because it wasn't the Walmart of sportman and because I didnt have to drive to Lacey to get some supplies! None of the employees mentioned my sidearm, it was like it wasn't even there...I checked out the stock and there again was no ammo for popular calibers. The only .22 they had was in WinMag...got me to thinking...since you can't reload your own rimfire and I enjoy shooting .22 why not find a rifle that I can get a supply of ammo for rather than trying to find the ammo? I have been looking into getting a match grade // ish rifle for a while in .22LR but it just so happened that they had a sweet Savage BESV in .22 WinMag just taunting me. I decided to fill out the paperwork for it and make the purchase, since most places actually have .22 WinMag and nothing else...

Again, I was delayed...as usual...I grabbed up some .22 WInMag for the impending rifle, have still heard nothing back on it. I guess I will give them a call later today if there is still nothing. I also looked around and found a new 16 oz. canteen, water tabs, and checked out the handheld GPS units for a while. Everyone was very friendly +1 to them!

Rolled back home with a bunch of new ammo for weapons I dont have, but it was a good day.
