What a mess! When I try the phone number, I get transferred to an operator who then transfers me supposedly to Lt. Gov Dan Patrick office, they don't answer and it starts the transfer cycle all over again, lastly it disconnects the call altogether. Start the whole process all over again. Talk about getting the run around! !! They are going to let it die and don't want to hear from you, the voter!

Actually, that phone number is getting swamped.........KEEP IT UP!

Second reading is today. They authorized a co-sponsor. Correct me if I'm wrong but that means it was read and will be scheduled for a third reading and a vote in the coming days.

It's on the intent calendar, which guarantees nothing. An insider indicated that a call to action was needed today for this bill, therefore the requests for phone calls.

I feel like I'm watching a recorded broadcast. The Dems are proposing all the same amendments that they did for SB 17 that got overwhelmingly shot down.

Amendment to allow cities and counties to opt in, and possibly license/authorize individuals "so they know who is allowed to carry."
This would be a disaster, with Dallas and Austin and Houston, with gerrymandered borders and suburbs...
Tabled by vote

Amendment to cities and counties to opt out. Equally bad.
Tabled by vote

That is the game they play. Sadly it does look like a game.

Amendment to change the 30.06 sign, to make it "simple". The proposed sign is a gunbuster red circle with some words. DPS would be required to provide a downloadable version for printing.
Tabled by vote.

Amendment to require annual background checks. "to provide some measure of safety and comfort to those who are concerned..." He again mentions Waco, because the bad guys carry with a permit. Estes points out that the system is already in place (Wrapback?) with DPS to revoke licenses of newly convicted persons. The proposer simply did not understand that there is already a system, even when told how it works.
Tabled by vote.

Amendment for constitutional carry. Submitter Huffines withdraws the amendment. Apparently wanted to hear himself speak.

Amendment, also proposed by Huffines, to prohibit a peace officer from making an investigatory stop or other detention simply because the person is openly carrying a holstered handgun. This is the same Dutton amendment. Estes says that other law already prohibits this activity - compares to licensed drivers. Support seems strong...

Holy cow, I'm actually getting pretty excited here. It looks like the amendment that is currently being debated that was struck in the Senate committee has a chance of being passed. If the bill is passed with just this amendment, HB 910 will go straight to the Governor.

Guys, I know we don't all agree on amendment 9 currently being debated that will add back to HB910 the language that police officers cannot stop someone solely for the reason that they are open carrying a firearm, but we need to call our Senators and tell them they should vote for this amendment to make it identical to the version of HB910 that the House passed.

If we don't do this and the amendment doesn't get added, it's likely that open carry will die here in the Senate because we don't have the time in the legislative session to go back and forth with the House on this.

I totally agree.

Notes sent to the local senators (Huffines, Van Taylor.) Since Huffines is the one proposing the amendment, I am preaching to the choir, but every voice counts.

I can't get to the Capitol by 6.

It is obvious from watching today's proceedings that some of our senators are not very bright.

Wow, I thought this would pass. I should have never underestimated the bootlicking neoncons capacity to con. It just never ends. The House amendment is fine, it's redundant but LE doesn't care. Georgia had to do the exact same thing recently to keep their uniformed gangs in check despite case law. Pass the damn bill and send it to the governor.

I'm actually surprised by Senator Estes in his stance against Amendment 9. I know he's been huge for open carry so far being the author of SB 17, but his opposition to this amendment is working against getting OC passed this session. Please make sure to call his office at 512-463-0130 and let the secretary there know that you are a Texas resident in support of amendment 9 to HB 910 and that we need to pass this legislation and get it to the Governor as soon as possible.

I'm sure I was a little late but I called Estes' office and left a message. Hope he gets it unless the house has good news. The messenger just walked in.
