No, no, please don't do that :(

We prefer to take the high road and not deface someone's private property. If they do not want my very well behaved, passive friend with me, then I will respect their wishes and spend my green bucks somewhere else.

I will not leave a bad taste in his mouth that will reflect negatively on all OCers.

An excellent point (although in the next post he indicated he was kidding). I have folks stick cards in my office door, on my window, attempt to push it through the non-functioning mail slot....all the time. How I feel about that is that the plaza is posted for no soliciting, and my door has a no soliciting sign, and absent a peddler permit in VA BH it is illegal to do that....so consider it highly unlikely that I would ever ever ever choose to do business with someone who from the outset indicates that they consider laws which protect me to be optional. They would have the same feeling if someone taped a card to the door.

OK got it.

Some people suggest using purple font for sarcasm.

I prefer wrapping the relevent text with [sarcasm] and [/sarcasm] in an attempt to make my intent unambiguous. Things being misinterpreted can be a real pain :banghead:

or what Grape said while I was writing this

I was stunned...

Wow, that's pretty incredible. I have to wonder what it's like inside that woman's head.

Iv had lots of curious ppl ask questions which i like because most dont know there rights untill after we speak. iv even had ppl who know there rights but still dont think carryn a weapon is acceptable and after talkn to them no view changes but at the end they respect my choice as i do theres and the talk ends with a smile. but the lady at foodlion was over the top. caught me completly off guard. the worst is when ppl sneak around watchn u as they call the cops. i love it when they hang around to see the officers approch me and after noticing who i am say"oh mr. Harvell good to see you.we figured it was u from the callers discription. well..have a nice day and stay safe" needless to say i get them called or notice me ALL the time.

Pay with cash? If so ur a terrorist according to 1 n.n police supervisor

Let me start by sayn that I have the highest respect for newport news P.D. Each time I have had a run in with them they have treated me with respect along with respecting my right to carry. But The day that idiot set fires at CNU something strange happened. I was walkn the 400meters down my street towards warwick blvd to get a drink from the gas station and there was 5 n.n P.D officers chilln on my street who noticed me. I waved hello out of kindness and because I knew 3 out of the 5. plus i find waving hello is not only nice but it makes it obvious that im friendly and my hand is far from my weapon. anyway they called me over and one of the cops i didnt know was the supervisor to the other officers and procceded to give me a hard time dispite the others telln him I was cleared MANY times. long story short he wanted to give me the 3rd degree questioning y im armed and y do feel the need to have multiple mags(I carry two extra) ect. but what got me is he askd whr i was goin n i said to get a drink and cigs from store

cop"u pay with debit card?"
me"no sir cash"
cop"u gota a credit card?"
me"no sir credit cards get ppl in debt. im to young to trash my credit"
cop"so basicly ur off the grid right?is that what ur sayn?"
me"sir? i dont get it"
cop"well ur armed.u dont have credit cards and only use cash. to me thats not normal. thats the actions of someone hiding or ploting somthing"
me"well maby with some ppl thats true but not me. besides i realy dont think D.H.S is worried about me buyn pepsi and cigs and unless im being detained id like to be on my way"
cop"ok then ur free to go "

and luckly i had on my gadston flag shirt on that day so as i walked away he got a good look at the words "DONT TREAD ON ME" writen in big bold letters across my back

by the way. Since the gov. passed the NDAA,if the cop wanted to he could have arrested me on suspition of terrorist activity without warrent and the feds could keep me detained for as long as they want. its called preventive detention. im dead serious and urge u all to look it up

Open carried last night at FIVE GUYS and the CHKD Thrift shop in Providence shopping center. Had a nice chat with one of the staff about my gun, where it was made and his Taurus. A few looks, one or two smiles and the family with two young children didn't keep them from talking to us (wife is a lot nicer looking than me so not as scary:D or they could tell that she was able to keep me in line:uhoh:)

i don't know if i would have been in the state of mind to answer right. my first thought would have been. what business is it of yours? if he had said about people plotting something, he would have got , "well i feel that all government workers are brown shirts and thugs, probably said something in the line of his mother and father being closely related.
he probably wanted to show off for the other LEOs that was there. you did a good job

There is always the possibility that this encounter might not have ended well for you.
Did you have your digital voice recorder operating at the time?
If you do not own one, this encounter is a perfect example of why you should.

The ironic part.... is that he DID 'tread on you', and you let him. He called you over for a 'consentual converstation' and you abilged him. He 'interrogated' you, and you answered. So yeah, he probably saw your shirt as you were leaving, and was probably laughing at it as you walked away.... knowing to himself that he DID just tread on you.

Camping Weekend

This weekend we started up our camping season and attended the Family Campers and RVers (FCRV) Statewide campout held at American Heritage Campground in Williamsburg. Since there were alot more folks attending than just our chapter or the other chapters in Tidewater I wasn't sure if I should OC or CC (first time camping since purchasing a handgun so hadn't run into this before). After discussing with the wife and a close friend in the group decided to "just do it and see what happens"

Overall, the reaction was muted, I was the same old Bill just with a gun on my hip. Those that did comment were supportive or curious. One lady ate a whole meal sitting six inches from my gun and wasn't til desert that she even noticed. Without exception people accepted my reasons for wanting to carry and several talked about revisiting their weapons in light of the craziness going on in this country. I gave out several of Ed's open carry cards and will be submitting an article for the state newsletter informing the membership what the rules in Virginia area wrt Open Carry. A lot of the folks were upthere in years and just couldn't keep up with all the rules and so didn't consider carrying in case they did it wrong. I would like one, maybe two knowledgable on Virginia rules to volunteer to proof read my article before I submit it. While I think I understand the rules fairly well, this is an important topic that I don't want to mess up and there is awealth of knowledge and experience on this forum that I would be a fool not to reach out to for a sanity check.

So during the course of the weekend:
- had a great conversation with a couple from Mass. who were intown for a wedding. He commented that it was good to see Virginia was OC friendly and folks exercising their rights.
- OC's at Pierce's BBQ, Yankee Candle Outlet, Walmart (one guy commented it was nice to see a buisness that didn't freak out just cause someone wore a gun inside), on dog walks throughout the campground, bike rides, pot lucks setting up the rig, breaking down, etc. Basically wore my gun 3 days straight except for when I was in bed or returning my camper to the storage yard on one of the local military bases.

All in all a very positive weekend and I may see some more members carrying at our next outing.

Great way to spread the word!

The Va-Alerts are a great way to keep current on what is happening through the Commonwealth.

In the course of educating them don't forget to include information on how to join VCDL and why.
