Well, at last I saw my unicorn. The wife & I talked to him, too.

A we were entering the Newport News Home Depot (about 2:00 pm today), I noticed him sitting near the outdoor grills. He was waiting to load one into his car, and after he finished, we walked over to say hello, or more accurately, "No one seems to notice those things any more.", referring to our OC'd firearms. He agreed. He asked my wife if she minded my OCing, and was a bit surprised to hear her say no. He said his wife (who wasn't with him) didn't like it and often asked him not to carry.

I did ask him if he posted here, and he said he did, so perhaps he's not a true unicorn.

VA Open Carry - Hampton Roads

OCed to the zoo today. No one said anything but got a few looks of "oh no he has a gun"!!! Just makes me laugh.

Open Carried while helping daughter move into her new apartment on Monday evening. Went to dinner at CiCi's outside the Lynnhaven mall. One table with kids didn't notice the gun until after the meal was over and we walked past the window their table was at.

Went down to Dollar Tree and got a few things for the apartment.

Coming out of dollar tree and heading to the car passed a mall/stripmall security guy going the other way. wished him a good evening. It must suck to be security and not be able to carry when normal folks can.....

Open Carried Wednesday at Autozone on Holland road near rosemont. needed some new wiper blades. Nice chat with the guy while he put them on for us. New a word about the gun....he noticed but didn't think it a big deal. I thought I read some folks around here had trouble at autozone, but there were no signs posted and no one said a word.

I haven't heard of any issues with OC-er's at AutoZone. The only issue was that they fired an employee for bringing a gun to stop a robbery/hostage situation in progress. We/VCDL protested in front of AutoZone in three locations.

It sucks that when someone does something heroic that they get fired for a zero-tolerance policy!

OC-ed to Subway and Food Lion. No issues.

I've carried to that AutoZone off Holland near Rosemont many times before with no issues. The staff has always been very helpful, and the most I ever got was just a question about what model/caliber I was carrying.

I OCed today to Farm Fresh (also off Holland and Rosemont), and while I had no issues with anyone, I thought it interesting that while I was in the produce section I had smiled and greeted a mother who was there with her small child (3-4 years old). I don't know whether or not the mother noticed my gun, but the little girl certainly did... she stared first at my gun, and then at me the entire time I was within view of her. She didn't seem frightened, just a tad confused and curious.

It was so funny yesterday, at my local shore stop, I was gassing up my motorcycle and I noticed these guys were trying to peddle some kind of auto detailing spray. They had a table set up near the door. They were following people to the pumps and would just spray this product on peoples cars! They were extremely pushy and people were getting perturbed.

This squirrely looking dude starts heading my direction. As he got about 5 ft from me I was turning strong side to him to hang up the nozzle. I firmly, but calmly said, "dont spray that on my bike". As he was briskly walking away he said, "cool check us out on line!" Haha!!

I love seeing people standing in front of places asking everyone who walks by for money for some reason when I walk by they never ask me...most of the time it seems like some important business has suddenly come up around the corner they quickly need to attend to lol

Other than that the same old places Walmart trader joes etc...

It was good to see another Open Carrier. As often as I go out you'd think I'd run in to more of you.

OC'd to the Newport News DMV to renew the wife's Disabled Parking Placard (not easily done via their web site:cry:), and then to Green's Barber Shop in Grafton for a haircut.

The armed security guard (Green Tops?) at the DMV never blinked, if he noticed my gun at all. Neither of the counter clerks I spoke with seemed to care that I was armed.

Met Dutch Uncle and my Lafayette Gun Club Range Safety Officer Buddy at the barber shop. We talked about the pending federal gun control legislation and the impending impact of ACA on insurance companies. In all the years I've been going to that shop, this is the 1st time I've met fellow OCers there.

I had the best OC experience ever so far at the DMV at Donna drive and First colonial!

I walked in with my G17 on my hip and holding a Monster energy drink. I walk in and see two armed guards. The bigger of the 2 looks my way and goes, "whoa whoa whoa....no drinks allowed in here sir".

It was awesome then he said, "hey look he's got the same holster as us". He was also carrying a G17. We then talked guns for a bit and I did what I needed to do and left!

I just found the fact that he was far more concerned about my drink than my firearm funny and at the same time refreshing lol. Not surprising tho. Energy drinks have killed far more people than a holstered firearm...

I OC'ed to the DMV off Independence and Princess Anne yesterday with no issues. LEOs seem to be fairly well versed on the laws in Virginia Beach. I've yet to have a negative experience, and I can't wait to introduce my dad to OC when he comes out for a visit in May . He's from CA (as am I), and as such has never been around OCers. He's pretty open minded, so I hope he receives it well.

Great day open carrying.

Carried to Hall Hyundai in Chesapeake, car wash (where I saw 2 other OCers) TJ Maxx, Walmart (more OCers) Yukai Sushi Buffet, Target, Advance Auto, Home Depot, and at Trader Joes, I had a gentleman come up to me and say, "thanks for carrying". This is a new one for me not sure what he meant. I looked at him funny and didn't know what to say lol I guess just thanks for exercising my 2A rights. Cool tho.

No issues anywhere. Not even a funny look.

Warm weather brings out the OCers

I have seen 3 people open carrying during the past 2 weeks; 2 at the Lynn haven mall Wal-Mart and tonight I saw one guy at the Nimo Wal-Mart. Two of the guys were pretty big which begs the question why so many people who actually open carry are the least likely one’s to be targeted in the first place?

I have OCed in the past 2 weeks to BJs, the 3 VA Bch Wall marts, Ross on Princess Anne, Rainbow @ lynnhaven outskirts, Sports Authority (Lynnhaven) and the Lynn haven JC Penny’s as it is my understanding that the mall’s anchor stores don’t have the same restrictive policies as the mall itself? Anyways I haven’t had any issues in any of these places. I am glad to finally see fellow open carriers now that the weather is nice. I think that many of them must be CC during the cold weather and OCing during the warm as sometimes it is just too hard to cover up.

Yes we have had several open carry dinners there. Wednesday is pie day where you get a slice of regular pie free with a dinner. :)

OC-ed to ACT Thursday then China Ocean last night no issues.

Thanks for the info. we will have to include it on our list of regulars. They have some great pies.

I had an older gentleman approach me and thank me for carrying once. I was just as confused as you and it must have shown on my face because he went on to say that by my choosing to carry I was taking on responsibility for the safety of all around me (himself included), and he was thanking me for accepting that responsibility.

Justine, that's pretty cool perhaps that's what he meant. It definitely took me by surprise lol
