So I was down in Tidewater clearing out my second storage unit and decided to go see my sister at work. She works at Abuelos in greenbrier, and I have been in there many times OC no problem. Yesterday when I went to pick her up, the manager and owner swing on by and rudely interrupt our conversation with " You can't have that in here!"

I've been in that place so mant times I could not believe what I was hearing. The business has no "No Firearms" sign to top it off and according to the owner it is also company policy.

They'll never see my business again, maybe one day my sister will leave them in the dust.

Anyway, Abuelos is an anti establishment.

Newtown Road Tide stop

So today was my first real day to open carry. I needed some smokes so I walked down to the 7-11 by my house. To my surprise a member of the HRT staff actually said "thank you for open caring" it caught me so off guard I could only smile and give an approving nod. However, once I got into the 7-11 and asked for my smokes the lady said she give them to me this time but they had a no gun policy and pointed to a rather small sign that I swear wasn't there a week ago. I apologized for not catching the new sign and said it was a shame I wouldn't be coming back.

As a side note I didn't see a introduction post area sorry if I missed it.

Everybody calls me Jesse. I live in Norfolk and recently got my first handgun after being a bird hunter for a long time but people look at you weird if you try to carry a shotgun for protection. The gun is a steyr m9-a1 and I must say I'm quite pleased with it. Hope to be able to meet some of you in the future.

I ate there once and didn't think enough of it to go back again.

Welcome Jesse, I am surprised you had an issue with a 7/11 though, I have never had anyone say anything to me about carrying in a 7/11. I was once told not to carry my dog in there but never a word about the gun.

Yeah I was surprised too after how many posts of people were going there but when I looked at the sign in the window it was a paper sign held up with scotch tape and not in a very visible place. Seemed like it might just be that store.

I say the attached image should be taped right next to the no-guns sign. :)

Jessie welcome to OCDO. There is a VCDL picnic saturday in Newport News. If you can make it you will meet a number of like minded people. See http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/showthread.php?93353-VCDL-Picnic-in-Newport-News-Sept-10th-2011. Also consider joining VCDL or at least sign up for free updates www.vcdl.org.

John

PS 7-11 is owned by Southland Corporation which has been listed as Anti for some time. Some of the stores are franchised and may be upto the owner/franchise owner. See: http://www.vcdl.org/static/gue.html

7-11

Did you stop by the 7-11 directly across the street from the Newtown Rd. Tide station? This is good to know since I live a stones throw away from this. In a way I am surprised and in a way I am not. The 7-11 and the Rite Aid have been hit quite often with crime.

Welcome to OC.

Now for my story...This is the 11th year in a row that my wife has participated in the RnR half marathon at the oceanfront. This is the first year that I have OC'd at this event. It was uneventful for one thing. The thing that made me smile however were the two young boys (8-10ish) that were interested in my firearm and thought it was great that you can carry. They asked a few questions and I happily chatted. The best part was....Their mom apologized for them asking all the questions, I told her that they were not bothering me and was happy to chat. She then proceeds to tell me that they came down from NJ and she explained to her two boys that VA was a right to carry state! I think my chin hit the boardwalk!! Great for her and her support for the 2nd amendment!

As a side note I was wondering if anyone had oc'd on the Tide yet or came across any problems with that. Since the station is right by my house I'd hate to get halfway down the line and get told to get off.

Tide? you mean that new rail system thing??

I think one guy did, he sat on it a round trip, he said it was like a hour and a half or something...

OC @ Northern Tool's new Janaf location yesterday around 7:30 Talked to three employees about misc tools...and the cashier for 5 minutes. Aparrently the "Go-Thru" screwdrivers have changed brands to Klutch and they look cheap now. Hope Northern isnt becoming HF on tool quality. The go-thru's were comparable to snap on IMO.

Yesterday while at the Wawas on Warwick and Beachmont I saw in my peripheral vision what I thought might be a gun on someones belt who was walking back to his car. I look more carefully and its a blackhawk serpa around 5 oclock, but its empty! I was inside and he was already across the parking lot getting into his car so I didn't get the chance to inquire. Based on his license plate I'd say he was Army Infantry. Perhaps headed back on base after going to the range?

OC-ed to Target yesterday no issues. Food Lion and Farm Fresh today no issues.

Last night I stopped by Arby's to get dinner and the clerk (one of two) asked if I had a permit for my Sig P220 on my hip. I told her that I didn't need one in VA since it was an Open Carry state and permits were only for CC. The second clerk (both women) agreed with me and said that she just came from Nevada and needed to get her license changed over so she could (buy a gun and/or get a CHP). It was nice/refreshing to have another person know about the laws and support them in the conversation. The first clerk said that if someone grabbed her that she knew some pressure points and they would leave her alone. I gave her one of Ed's cards and recommended both get/learn about firearms. The second clerk said she already knew how to use one but just needed to get one. She understood (and corrected me actually) as we talked about requirements at guns shows or FFL's in purchasing a gun. Gotta love someone from out of state knowing the laws better than me. :) Overall a good exchange and I hadn't had one in a while.

Now if I can talk my daughters into chicken wings for dinner I will be OC-ing at Quaker Steak and Lube shortly. :)

I hit harbor freight, northern tool and equipment, and lowes on military highway this morning. Went to food lion this afternoon, I'm not sure if anyone noticed or cared that I was carrying a gun.
