too many places to list
in addition to all the usual places I carry, I also did a lot of running around getting stuff for the hurricane. I went to several industrial supply houses trying to find an L14-30P so I could fabricate a cable for the generator that I just bought. NOBODY had one. Everybody said "we have 'em ordered, they'll be in tomorrow. No body said a word about the Kimber. Finally got one Friday afternoon at Rexel. It was their LAST ONE. Grainger had them
for $69.00 I said, thanks but no thanks.
Went to the Advance auto but they didn't have the gas can I wanted so I had to go to Auto Zone. As I was looking at them, the associate said "whatcha got there?" A Kimber Pro-Carry II was my reply. We then engaged in a pleasant conversation about guns. He's a "Glock man". He did admire my gun though and we chatted about guns and etc for maybe half an hour. I told him about the VCDL and the upcoming picnic. Also told him about open carry dot org and he was rather excited to find out that open carry is legal in Virginia. It amazes me how many people think its not.
The only hassles I had was the over worked/frustrated know-it-all in Lowes where I bought the generator (the only place that had one at the time). They had them just sitting on the floor and I was trying to load it onto the flat cart and he came up to "help". Actually, he came up to
take charge. So, I thought I'd just let him do his thing. First he said push it this way. no wait! lift it like this. no, uh, go to the right. etc. I said look buddy, why don't you go back the the break room until you finish changing your mind or get the heck out of the way so I can load this without your interference. or call the manager; your choice. he looked at me. looked at the Kimber. looked at the generator. looked back at me. I said, you lift this end to tilt it back and I'll roll the cart under it, OK? he made no reply but lifted the thing up and the job was done in about 10 seconds.
stopped for gas at the Exxon at Denbigh and Jefferson and was in line when a young guy in an imported car with a
BIG muffler was trying to wedge inline so I inadvertently got out of the truck to check the gas cans in the back and he must have been a Pachmyer grip fan because when he saw the ones on the Kimber he suddenly remembered that he had plenty time to wait in line. I pretended to not even notice him in any way.
The lady in the food line bagging my groceries looked at the gun and then just gave me a big friendly smile and said stay safe in the storm. I said thank you very much maam. you too. Oh I will ! she said. Judging from her expression and tone of voice and just the way she said that I got the distinct impression that she had some "hardware" at home.
The lady in RIPS just said, which one ya got this time? Same one as always I offered. Last chance for hot popped corn for a couple days she advised. Make it a large I said.
The storm came. We had limbs, twigs, leaves, branches strewn all over. And that was just in the pool!!! Open carried (like always) around the house and neighborhood while cleaning up and helping the neighbors clean up. My neighbors on either side are both well armed and although they don't open carry, they chat it up with me about guns, shooting, etc. The storm wasn't as bad as some of the other hurricanes we've been through and there was certainly no mischief around here after the storm. This section of the street is known to be inhabited by gun owners so we have no problems. Not even from the Neighborhood Watch boys. Just the way it should be
