t33j, I had no idea that Lab Corp had such egregious policies, even for its own employees. I have sent most of my patients to them, because they are the biggest and seem to be everywhere, but if you find one with a more sensible policy, I'll shift all my business in a heartbeat, and let LC know why. I'll even tell them they did a lousy job spacing the lines in their stupid sign!
I can see the headlines now: "Psychiatrist sends patients to more gun friendly lab service provider!":uhoh:.

Pops, Farm Fresh, Bank, Office Depot.

Spotted one of Digg's deputies in plainclothes at Pops OCing a Glock and a badge. Spotted another deputy at Farm Fresh in plainclothes but with no OCed gun. Spotted a really cute teller at the bank.

To me it would be the only responsible thing to do if I had a schizo patient that may harm someone. At least the place I send him to would be able to defend themselves if he got off his meds. :) I like the stories of the car dealerships that gave away a gun with every car purchase. They would get my business!

DutchUncle, yes during Isabel (and afterwards) neighbors chipped in and helped each other. I even went searching for my neighbors kid when he didn't come home after going out for recycle bin retreaval! Searching ditches and puddles for a body during a hurricane wasn't my first choice for a pass-time activity. It turned out he stopped by his friends house without telling anyone and since phone/electricity was down there was no way to call/ping friends/neighbors. So I am not that worried about my neighbors turning rabid just the thin veil of courtesy can wear out when people are competing for the last resource.

My daughter told me this morning that it was pretty ironic that the person that cut me off and jumped in line at the gas station last night had alot of trouble getting his pump to work. He did eventually get it to work but had to go into the store at least three times and come back out to try it again while I was sitting there pumping gas at the next open pump. He even complained to his passengers that I parked too close to his car but I had to to get the nozzle to reach to my gas tank. Maybe he was just having a bad day. :)

OC-ed to Walmart this morning to get some medicine and while it was busy it wasn't exceptionally busy like I expected. I asked if they were closing tomorrow and they didn't know. The ammo counter was three or four people deep but I didn't stop to see if there was anything available.

Time to enjoy what little sun we have left (pool) and batten down the hatches. Good luck everyone and hope to see you on the other side of Irene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGd4jkaoHRg

Yeah, 2A, that wouldn't be great advertising for my practice, but it would be better than "Crazy local shrink and gun-nut friend set up "Carry Any Damn Way You'd Like To Lab Service".

Posting about my Dad from "Kerplakistan". My Mom sent me some pictures of my Dad and Brother-in-Law OC'ing while cutting trees down/clearing fallen trees over at my Uncle's neighborhood in Suffolk near Sleepy Hole Golf Course after the storm passed. See, sons can teach their Fathers some things from time to time! LOL!

Been Oc'ing everywhere. 2 of my buddies and myself went out to the Hibachi Grill on Jefferson. Every one of us were OC'ing. Since the power was out in places, this place was jam packed..... actually had to wait to be seated.

Had a couple bug eyes and stares, but nothing crazy. Overheard some people (of the ignorant breed) comment that it should be illegal, etc. Well, they left and nothing happened. Maybe they can take that into consideration.

Had the AR Pistol out, but only OC'ed while at my buddy's place or helping another buddy move his stuff back in to his place from the weekend.

I haven't been OC-ing as much because my daughters schedules keep me running to and from their school. :-(

I did OC tonight to the County Grill and thought I might have seen 2a4all leaving but wasn't sure.

too many places to list

in addition to all the usual places I carry, I also did a lot of running around getting stuff for the hurricane. I went to several industrial supply houses trying to find an L14-30P so I could fabricate a cable for the generator that I just bought. NOBODY had one. Everybody said "we have 'em ordered, they'll be in tomorrow. No body said a word about the Kimber. Finally got one Friday afternoon at Rexel. It was their LAST ONE. Grainger had them for $69.00 I said, thanks but no thanks.

Went to the Advance auto but they didn't have the gas can I wanted so I had to go to Auto Zone. As I was looking at them, the associate said "whatcha got there?" A Kimber Pro-Carry II was my reply. We then engaged in a pleasant conversation about guns. He's a "Glock man". He did admire my gun though and we chatted about guns and etc for maybe half an hour. I told him about the VCDL and the upcoming picnic. Also told him about open carry dot org and he was rather excited to find out that open carry is legal in Virginia. It amazes me how many people think its not.

The only hassles I had was the over worked/frustrated know-it-all in Lowes where I bought the generator (the only place that had one at the time). They had them just sitting on the floor and I was trying to load it onto the flat cart and he came up to "help". Actually, he came up to take charge. So, I thought I'd just let him do his thing. First he said push it this way. no wait! lift it like this. no, uh, go to the right. etc. I said look buddy, why don't you go back the the break room until you finish changing your mind or get the heck out of the way so I can load this without your interference. or call the manager; your choice. he looked at me. looked at the Kimber. looked at the generator. looked back at me. I said, you lift this end to tilt it back and I'll roll the cart under it, OK? he made no reply but lifted the thing up and the job was done in about 10 seconds.

stopped for gas at the Exxon at Denbigh and Jefferson and was in line when a young guy in an imported car with a BIG muffler was trying to wedge inline so I inadvertently got out of the truck to check the gas cans in the back and he must have been a Pachmyer grip fan because when he saw the ones on the Kimber he suddenly remembered that he had plenty time to wait in line. I pretended to not even notice him in any way.

The lady in the food line bagging my groceries looked at the gun and then just gave me a big friendly smile and said stay safe in the storm. I said thank you very much maam. you too. Oh I will ! she said. Judging from her expression and tone of voice and just the way she said that I got the distinct impression that she had some "hardware" at home.

The lady in RIPS just said, which one ya got this time? Same one as always I offered. Last chance for hot popped corn for a couple days she advised. Make it a large I said.

The storm came. We had limbs, twigs, leaves, branches strewn all over. And that was just in the pool!!! Open carried (like always) around the house and neighborhood while cleaning up and helping the neighbors clean up. My neighbors on either side are both well armed and although they don't open carry, they chat it up with me about guns, shooting, etc. The storm wasn't as bad as some of the other hurricanes we've been through and there was certainly no mischief around here after the storm. This section of the street is known to be inhabited by gun owners so we have no problems. Not even from the Neighborhood Watch boys. Just the way it should be :)

Be careful hooking up that generator, 6L6GC. I know you'll avoid backfeeding the Dominion lines and/or burning your house down.

We were on a generator for about 40 hours (Sat PM - Mon AM). My next door neighbor is the Neighborhood Watch Captain, and thinks he's got the responsibility for making sure everyone knows what's happening with power, and was concerned about backfeeding because it would cause further outage problems. He said so when he left me a voice mail at 4:30 AM Monday to let me know that I could shut down my generator because power was restored. Since I turn off my phone at night to avoid being disturbed by these types of calls, he got no response and came over and started pounding on my door. Receiving no response, he pulled his SUV to the end of my driveway, and while facing toward my house, started hitting the horn. He finally gave up and went inside. After I listened to his VM, I shut down the generator and restored power to the house so I could run my AC. There were multiple generators running at houses near mine. I need to have a talk with him. I'll try to keep a straight face:uhoh:.

Oh, yeah. I OC/CC'd while prepping for the storm, including dinner at Steve & John's, as well as running out to get more gasoline.

For those that carry at church, just be careful of one thing: many churches are also religious schools. 18.2-308.1 specifically states that it applies to all public, private, and religious K-12 schools. If your church also runs a K-12 school in the same building during the week, you are committing a class 6 felony if you enter the structure.
...

I take the position that, unless the school is a standalone entity with its own facilities and grounds, then the application of the Virginia statute is limited to the areas, rooms, hallways, and incidental facilities actually in use as a school. If the building is really a church, and there are certain rooms in the basement that are used for school during weekdays, then there is no school on weekend days and the statute does not apply at all; and even during the week, it only applies in the part of the building that's being used as a school. There are no appellate decisions on point, as far as I know, but this is my opinion, and I'd be perfectly comfortable making that argument in court. Same principle as where a room, for example the City Council chamber in the City of Falls Church, is used as a courtroom - it's the General District Court on, I think, Tuesday and Thursday mornings or some such thing as that. It's only a "court" when court is actually there. And, as in Surry County, where the General District Court is permanent, and in the same building as the municipal facilities, only part of the building is "court". I think the same rule applies to schools under the Virginia statute.

I specify the Virginia statute, since there is, at least in theory, the federal statute that forbids possession within a thousand feet of the outer perimeter of whatever land parcel a school happens to be on. I maintain that there is no Constitutional authority for that statute, because the state has supreme power over issues relating to ownership, possession, and use of personal property, and state law pre-empts federal law on this topic. Again, no cases saying so, my opinion.

<SNIP> Again, no cases saying so, my opinion.

While I would like to agree with you I believe many people in jail have an opinion that what got them there shouldn't be a crime.

The only opinion that matters is that of the court. :-(

I verY veRY vERY VERY much would like to strike the GFSZ from history as well as change all VA state laws to allow the legal carry of firearms anywhere you are legally allowed to be. That would allow private property to set their own rules but not government and their agencies.

Because of the current laws I haven't been OC-ing much because I have to CC while I stay in my vehicle dropping off and picking up my daughters with their combined 10 practices a week (not including games that start tomorrow).

I did OC to JC Penney and Plaza Azteca this evening though and IT FELT GREAT! :)
