OCd while we had dinner at a new place called "The Revolt" in York County. (It was recently known as the Tuscany Coffee House.) As it's only their 2nd day in business, we were greeted by the owner and his wife. They are trying to establish an upscale bistro (tablecloths, cloth napkins, glassware, etc.) around a Revolutionary War theme. The menu is unlike most other (chain) eateries, and features some quite unique offerings.

We were seated at a table for 2 near two other such tables, which are spaced far enough apart to preclude carryover of dinner conversations between parties. However, at one point, I heard the gentleman at an adjacent table say to his dinner companion "He's just exercising his 2A rights." I gathered this was in response to some comment she made, because a few moments later I heard her say something like "I think that's very distressing.". I couldn't be sure, but I also thought I heard her urging him to "say something".

Our waitress provided excellent service, and told us that one of her ancestors had served with Francis Marion. She indicated that she was trying to become acquainted with the DAR, but wasn't having much luck. I left her a VCDL card (and a tip).

The chef came to our table after dinner to inquire of our satisfaction, and we assured him that his work was most appreciated. We chatted amicably with the owner's wife on the way out. She said she's working up the web site, and expects it to be up and running in a few days.

while out and about

I open carried in the Virginia Aquarium. Nobody seemed to care. The wife overheard some kids telling their parents that "he has a gun!!" but the parents didn't seem to care. Same thing happened in the McDonalds on General Booth Blvd. Then after the aquarium tour we were off to the Freemason Abbey restaurant for the evening meal. Of course they didn't say anything; we've had open carry events there.

OC-ed to Food Lion, Walmart, Farm Fresh, Kroger and Olive Garden for dinner.

At Kroger I had an older woman ask me "Why do you have your gun with you?"
I told her it was easier than carrying a police officer around all day on my hip. She didn't seem to get the humor. I tried to talk to her a bit but she seemed intent on making statements and not listening well. She told the person (random person walking next to her) that she thought I was a police officer. In between trying to tell her I wasn't a Kroger person came over to her to see if she needed help on the self checkout which she didn't but she told the Kroger person that she was just asking me why I had a gun on. In all the confusion I was able to ask her if she ever needed to call 911 and the delay it took them to respond she was vulnerable and should defend herself but she went off on a tangent on how when she had to call for medical reasons.......

Not a bad encounter since she was in a good mood just a bit frustrating not being able to communicate that well.

No other issues elsewhere.

A quick wave Hello to everybody. I might migrate over to another section for an introductory soon.

Laughed at the Great Dane story on page one.

Only carried for 2 months so far (Recently 21).. But have had no problems except Pick N Pull.

Went this past Saturday to PnP and talked to a few people, pondered around looking for a part they didnt have, came back in and asked the guy at the parts interchange computer a question, half way through our conversation he says do me a favor, put that back in your car for me. Funny thing was I spoke to a manager friday night right at closing about a part and pricing and he welcomed me into the lobby during shutdown to look at the price sheet with pistol in plain view, didnt mention anything, no signs. Now I know anyway.

Have had good experiences at Napa on Holland Rd in VB(Next to Bojangles).. Shipps Corner Pizza Hut (Customer asked me what model, chatted during the wait), was in that Bojangles too many times.

The Shell and Hardees in Chesapeake on GW at Battery Park never have any looks or comments. Always in there. My first time OC'ing I had an officer come up on me in line at the shell and said nothing.

Eddys Express in Portsmouth I have OC a few times no issue but then again I have been a customer 3 years they know me by voice.

OC at sears today at Chesapeake Square, merchandise pickup next to the offices many in and out lots of friendly employees, had to go into the HR office for warrenty info pickup.

Edit- Oh, Bass Pro.... First time customer and probably will not be returning.
Went in there last week around 8pm think it was wednesday or thurs. Took my Taurus PT145 in to find a proper holster. Being new and learning still, I phoned ahead, the woman who picked up kinda laughed when I asked her if I could bring it in and said No Problem. I went in with the Taurus in the factory case, no clip or ammo, checked in with the greeter, told him it was my first time in and I was unsure of procedure for bringing in a pistol and finding accessories for it. He just had me do the "Walmart sticker" thing, had me sign what I had on a piece of paper so they would know I brought it in. I specifically asked about anything I needed to do to it he said no, he commented you can carry them in loaded these days. as I walked away he said Oh wait, let me look at it. He wanted to make sure it was unloaded since I was wanting to try on holsters. I opened it and he saw the clip was missing and sent me on my way.

I get to the holster aisles, find three I like, and ask a guy behind the counter what the etiquette is for trying out fitment. He wouldnt let me try on any of them, he said let me see your pistol, i opened the box for him, he said Damn boy that needs to be locked and tagged! I try to tell him I spoke to the greeter and all seemed fine, he stays quiet and puts my pistol in a holster says yep it fits. I then asked for more info for next time and he said The guy at the door will put a tag/lock on it for you. I said again I talked to him and he did not mention anything about it, while I am talking the old fart wanders off away from me. Im pissed but need a holster so I grab the cheap one and head to the front...The cashier was very nice(and cute) and the holster is comfortable but man he kind of burned Bass Pro for me..

Enjoyed a bike ride...

Greetings all!

I enjoyed a nice long bike ride in South Norfolk and Chesapeake. Started by heading south on Campostella, got on to Atlantic and Military Hwy briefly. Next, I continued on Campostella to Great Bridge blvd. Finally, I came back up north on Battlefield blvd. A wonderful ride while OC'ing. Got a couple of stares while waiting to cross some intersections. Stopped in at a 7-11 for a bottle of water.

Absolutely NO problems! I was just a fella out enjoying the afternoon! JUST THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!!!

<Snip>

Welcome! Most leather Sig P220 holsters fit the Taurus PT145. I used to CC mine a while back using a Don Hume pocket holster. I have had problems with mine after about two years so I stopped using it as a BUG and use it at the range since my daughter likes it best. My problem is probably magazine related so I won't get into Taurus bashing since it is a great gun feature wise and price wise.

You will run into anti's occassionally and it doesn't necessarily mean that the whole business is anti. Asking to speak with the manager or writing a letter to coporate to get clarification on policies works. Even Walmart had the occassional anti-employee that started spouting wrong policy. Usually it can be corrected with employee-education from corporate or their local management. I have heard Bass Pro had some issues in the past but thought they were ironed out.

Try to join us at a OC dinner sometime. We schedule them randomly. There is a picnic in Newport News September 10th that you are welcome to come to. Try to join VCDL also since it is the best 2A organization in Virginia. Welcome aboard. :)

Welcome!

Some things you might not know, but should pick up along the way:

Only carried for 2 months so far (Recently 21)
18 is the minimum age to carry a handgun in Virginia. One would have to do so openly as CHPs are not available to anybody under 21. I know quite a few people who started carrying under 21 including myself.

Half way through our conversation he says do me a favor, put that back in your car for me.
If he were a cop (placing you under detention for instance) that would be a request that you could, and almost certainly should decline. In the case of a business prohibiting firearms many like to give out no guns = no $ cards but that doesn't really seem to be what's going on in your narrative. Ditto what 45acpforme said.

...and Wylde, I get the feeling peternap's sunglasses just wouldn't look right on me.

Worst thing you can do, you are disarmed and people will see you walking back to your car and going back to the store. Very dumb idea, give no business!

Yep. I was on my way out anyway.

t33j I know about the age. I did not know anyone selling at the time, nor could I afford to buy one. If I had enough money to keep my vehicles running I was lucky.
The guy at PnP also said that there was a no pistol policy, the "favor" was his way of asking nicely. I did not care much to go into detail over it at the time. I simply OK'd thanked him for his time and left.

Ill hang around more and possibly attend that Sept 10 Shindig. Thanks yall.

I OC in Bass Pro all the time and I've never been asked to sign anything or have my firearm tagged.

I guess Bass Pro can still be a mixed bag. There seems to be no problem with regular OC anymore. Its when someone brings a gun in for something else that things can get disorganized. A few years ago, I brought an empty pistol in a case so I could try out holsters. The greeter insisted it have some big cable tie through the slide, which of course took it way out of battery. He said "when you get to the firearms dep't, someone will cut it off for you and assist". Well, at the gun counter, no one seemed to have the "authority" to do so, and a manager was called. After about 10 minutes of waiting, I just kind of sidled off, cut the tie with my (concealed!!) folding knife, and quickly tried a few holsters. I made my choice, put the pitol back in the case and was on my way to checkout.

Sometines, one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing, or supposed to be doing at BassPro.
