Technically she is correct. She writes:

"For future reference, City Code can place more controls than State Code. ".

They can. Just not anything involving the carry of firearms. Who knows if that's what she really meant. More clarification is needed.

The topic was the open carry of firearms. She was trying to "muddy" the argument with a broad and inaccurate statement. Either that, or it was a bad attempt at intimidation. She knew EXACTLY what she was doing.

Out and about... County Grill, True Value, Food Lion,...

Disarmed for an endoscopy; I wish a family member carried.

Handed out an OC card to a (former?) brit at Quartermaster Police Supply in Newport News (not the former brit that works there).

A Tale of Two Hobbies

Out and about... County Grill, True Value, Food Lion,...
Disarmed for an endoscopy

I OC-ed out to LGC to shoot a my new AK47 mini draco pistol and we might have bumped into you at the County Grill except it was so hot we left LGC and went to the pool.
I had given Tony a card a while back at QPS and picked up my pistol there last week (Tony wasn't working).

I got the girls out to the range this morning shooting the Sig522 and I shot the AK pistol. (my choice)
We swam and ate lunch then....
To the mall (after picking up a friend of my daughters).... (their choice) such two opposite hobbies!!!

If they could build a range into a mall both men and women could spend all day there. :)

It continues to suck that the mall is anti-OC! So I got to OC only to/from/at LGC. :-(

We got to the 50yd range right after they went hot so we sat and sat and sat waiting for it to go cold again (30 minutes after we were ready to set up a target). We set up and shot everything and tore down before it went cold a second time an hour later so I only shot the pistol at 50 yards and was underwhelmened with its/my accuracy so I may go back tomorrow and work at 25 yards to get used to and zero the iron sights.

I'll edit and post some video when it finishes uploading.

I have been disarmed temporarily by the doctors and nurses at Riverside Hospital. Had a bad wreck at a bmx race, broken ribs and a punctured lung (chest tube installed). laying here, wishing i can get back on my bike sooner than they predict.

On a side note, my parents were at Home depot and spotted a unicorn open carried. Not sure who it was, as they did not take note of descriptions, but figured i would point it out :) Keep up the good work!

Sorry to hear of your wreck! Let me know if you need anything. (I posted the above video's for your entertainment) ;-)

I was thinking of you somewhat since you OC your AR-15 pistol, I ordered a sling, sling mount and new grip for my AK pistol and am debating if I would ever OC it. :)

DJEEPER, sorry to hear of your misfortune. I'm sure you'll knit up quickly and be on your way. You probably won't be in the hospital more than a matter of days, but I have to agree about not getting back on your bike anytime soon (jeez, no foolin'). A pneumothorax, either type, is nothing to sneeze at (groan, sorry) and I'm sure your docs don't want to see you back in the ER as a frequent traveler.

Quick questions: Do you OC on your bike? Does your mega-pistol need repairs??

I dont carry on my person when i am racing my BMX bike.... it would have been my XDm40 anyways. I dont carry the AR pistol too often.

this is what i was doing, for those who dont know bmx racing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gA_3BAxtVM

I wont let this discourage me from carrying. I will be back carrying when i get out of the hospital.

Sorry to hear about your injuries. Get well soon. Will you be able to make the VCDL Picnic?

Ouch! Get better soon.

Not intended as criticism of your recreational choices, but that is why I do not ride MCs. Many do and that is their choice, but I have to admit that I like a measure of metal around me.

BMX is a bicycle.

York County People:

The Republican Primary is this Tuesday. I would like to call your attention to a VCDL alert regarding one of the candidates.

PVC said:
Last night the York County Board of Supervisors voted to repeal their discharge bans and let state law rule!

The only fly in the ointment was that they did decide to keep a ban on discharging rifles that are greater than .22 caliber.

The York County Sheriff, Danny Diggs, did a fantastic job in standing up for gun owners in front of the Board of Supervisors and deserves the lion's share of credit for this victory.

Around 30 gun owners showed up and around 4 antis. Significantly, no one from a Home Owners Association was there.

The vote was broken into two parts: repealing the ban on discharge of rifles that are greater than .22 caliber and repealing all other discharge bans, including discharging a gun in and around a subdivision (state law would prevail and there would be no issue if such discharge was done safely).

Here is my impression of the Board members in this matter:

Walter Zaremba - voted wrong both times and fell flat when he tried to use logic to lay down the groundwork for his anti-gun vote

Sheila Noll - knew she couldn't stop the .22 caliber rifle restriction from being lifted if it was voted on in conjunction with lifting the other restrictions, so she pushed for the TWO votes . As gun owners talked, she bobbed her head up and down like she understood what they were saying, but at the end of the day she voted wrong on both items. I am now thinking she was just working a kink out in her neck

Donald Wiggins (chairman) - voted correctly on both items. Some of his comments originally made me uncomfortable as to how he was going to vote, but he came through in the end. He also voted to NOT have a separate vote on the .22 caliber rifle limitation

George Hrichak - the quietest one on the Board, but the one who really understands freedom. He pushed to not have a separate vote on the .22 caliber rifle limitation, too

Thomas Sheppard Jr - I thought he might support both repeals, but in the end voted wrong on the .22 caliber rifle limitation. He pushed with Ms. Noll to have the two votes, instead of just one.

What was really frustrating is that NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN CHARGED with violating the .22 caliber rifle restriction, but three of the five board members voted to keep it any how. The three votes to keep that restriction were politics at its worst: keeping up an illusion that they were still doing "something" to "protect" their constituents, while actually oppressing those who are law abiding.

Anyway, this was still an important victory for York County - we can come back to get rid of that .22 caliber rifle restriction later.

Apparently his opponent Haas has garnered much support. Anyone know his views on the RKBA? His house isn't too far away from mine; I plan to drop by tomorrow.

I was at that York County Supervisors meeting and the one Supervisor that impressed me the most was George Hrichak. I seriously wished he was the supervisor for my district. He was direct and logical and never veered from the question at hand. I don't know anything about his opponent but based on my experience with George he would get my vote.

My supervisor Sheila Noll voted against both items even though she nodded and looked like she understood the issue. So either she did not understand or voted against logic she did understand which makes her unworthy of my vote. I like her personnaly and she has been good at responding to email etc but LGC just came out today supporting her opponent. Frank Barger is trying to make some big issue about a vote on a new fire fighting boat but I don't agree with him. I met Frank a year ago and he seemed personable. He worked on the campaign for Rob Wittman (whom I feel betrayed by his vote to raise the debt ceiling) so I don't know if Frank is a establishment RINO or a true conservative.

I will be voting in the primary!

ETA:

It is VERY interesting that even though Haas is a LGC member the LGC committee is endorsing Hrichak. I agree with them.

FOR YORK COUNTY SUPERVISORS:

The Following candidates responded to the LGC Second Amendment survey, showing strong support for gun rights.

District 1: The LGC BoD endorses Mitchel E. Thomas.

District 4: The LGC BoD endorses George S. Hrichak.

No LGC Second Amendment issue surveys were returned from candidates in Districts 2, 3, and 5; however, LGC BOD presents the following based on the candidates record of supporting gun rights or position in their platform.

District 2: The LGC BoD recommends G. Frank Barger.

District 3: The LGC BoD recommends Bob Deramo.

District 5: Tom Shepperd is unopposed.

The following Statewide Pro-gun Candidates are also recommended.

FOR STATE SENATE DISTRICT 1:

The LGC BoD recommends Mickey Chohany.

FOR HOUSE OF DELEGATES DISTRICT 93:

The LGC BoD recommends Mike Watson.

IMO saying someone is a member of LGC is sort of like saying someone is amember of the NRA; they may or may not actually support the RKBA or self defense. For instance most of the LGC board members do not like pistols or pistol shooters. Last time I checked pistols were the most practical means for self defense when out and about in public.

Well I didn't expect Mr. Haas to be home so I wrote a short letter asking about his position on "gun control". He wasn't so I handed my letter to his daughter at his house (CCing). The phrasing produced the desired effect when he called me 3 minutes after I left his house. He seemed to suspect that I was anti-gun. He defended his pro-gun position by citing an armed citizenry's deterrent value upon crime, his possession of a CHP since before shall-issue, firearms being the teeth of the People, the notion that an armed society is a polite society, and his military history. He told me that he was leaning on a the center console of his car which held a gun in it after I revealed that I was carrying a firearm.

We ended up having a 40 minute conversation covering many financial issues, and issues which concern things not pertaining to OC or the RKBA. He said he was almost libertarian, and that seemed to be true after talking with him.

Towards the end of the call I asked him what he thought about OC, having expressed his belief in the deterrent value of firearm ownership. He thought that OC was sort of like showing off and articulated concern about the potential for intimidating people. He said he had not encountered an OCer in public. (outside of gun stores and ranges which I don't count) I think he could be brought around. I told him about the OC dinners and plan to invite him to the VCDL picnic on September 10[SUP]th[/SUP].

Not knowing much about his ideology, I went over there with the view that it would take some serious convincing to earn my vote given an incumbent with a good voting record. I've concluded that Mr. Haas is and would be just as staunch a supporter of the RKBA as Hrichak. That leaves other issues as the deciding factors for a vote. He does have a more vocal personality.
