I'll take a misdemeanor conviction with a fine & probation for $200 Alex.

I suspect that a cop who has a criminal record would be very difficult to hire and remain hired. The cop in the video does not deserve jail time but a criminal conviction is warranted. Cops must be held to a higher standard, as a requirement of their profession, and thus be held to a greater degree of account. LE must step aside and let the wayward cop defend himself just as any other citizen is required to do.

....they get transferred....

How about the same standard?

If a another civilian was filmed smaking someone upside the head like that he would have been taken away in cuffs. There is a double standard here.

Under the law, theoretically speaking, they are treated the same. But, their profession must hold them to a higher account, beyond what the law allows, sadly that is not the case. Cop unions are a redundant protection used in retaining wayward cops on any given LEA.

Every instance of a cop violating a law that cop must be subjected to the exact same process and receive the same exact results as any other citizen. Sadly, this too is not reality.

I love theory but it isn't reality.

There was one idiot victim and two BAD cops in this video.

The first bad cop assulted a stupid citizen; but stupidity isn't a crime but assault is.

The second bad cop was his partner that let it happen, didn't say anything or even try to stop the situation from escalating.

The additional corrupt cops, his bosses, the police unions, and everyone defending this anger filled cop are just as to blame for letting this problem not only exist but grow with time.

I apologize it was a poor attempt by me to lead the answer to a specific animal.....and then I had to go and mess up the quote to boot.....lol....

LOL! I was wondering how to do something similar last time I used this quote, but I never did quite solve it at the time. (I eventually concluded the context specifies unambiguously the species in question. ;))

Like this, maybe?

All animals are equal, but certain... ahem... "animals" are more equal than others.

That's good, maybe a picture would work too.

I wonder if the progenitors of the colloquial usage of that word read Animal Farm and had that in mind. It certainly seems plausible.

I was just thinking that.

I was going to say, "this is one of those little coincidences that makes life deliciously worth living", but then I thought, you know... Maybe it isn't a coincidence.

The etymology of the term coined in the '60s has never really been investigated, to my knowledge. I have no idea who first used it, but given the fact that it came from college students and pseudo-intellectuals, I have no doubt Orwell was in play.
