Ok.. After reading (and learning) what has been said, I have come to realize that my concern (fear) was in fact partially unjustified. My only justification would be that I am tot tally new at OC in public and that I have read of others "first time" feeling similar feelings of nervousness, apprehension, anxiety, etc. (all of which I was trying to avoid). I have also come to realize that part of my concern was due to unjustified paranoia when it comes to being "noticed" while carrying in public. Due to all this, I am actually becoming more confident in my ability and willingness to OP in any (legal) public place without concerning myself with the reaction of others (their problem not mine)...

I want to thank everyone again for there input. This group is awesome. I have learned more in the last couple of days than I ever expected to in such a short time frame.

And I hope you understand we are not piling on. We have all been where you are and are just trying to impart some of our collective experience.

Also, business owners (and politicians) usually take the path they think is 'safe'. If you make them think about a policy, they will usually come down on the no OC because they will 'think' you will be the only one who does it. It is likely that someone has OC'ed in their business before and no one has noticed.

As a side note, giving permission gives them potential liability. If a business is neutral and someone OC's and something happens, lawyers have less of a leg to stand on suing the business. If the lawyers find out the owner gave you permission to OC, it could make them liable. That is why 'we' normally want no stance on OC or a stance of 'we follow state and local laws'.

The reverse side could also be true. I would love to see an anti OC establishment get sued after something happens and be held liable because their business was a 'designated victim area'.

Hey guys and gals. My name is Will, I'm sure i met a few of you at this event last Sunday (March 6th). I'm new to firearms, shooting and most of all Open Carry. Sunday was only my second time ever carrying a gun in public (Saturday being my first) and it was kind of intimidating. I just want to thank all of you who were there and the support, engaging conversation and fellowship you all provide. Special thanks to Rob, Todd, and a few others. My friend Adam and I will be happily returning to this event in the future and hopefully brining along some other enthusiasts.
Well I'll just finish this by saying I look forward to seeing you all in the future and hope you all have a great week! :D
Welcome
First time I met Protias...
It was an OC Dinner...Lizzy's in fact.
I scanned the room 3x lookin for other OC'ers.
I missed him all 3x and he wasnt more than 10 ft from me.
I seen his face...missed the gun....and I was lookin for the gun.

Crowded Grocery store...easiest place there is to carry.
People are too busy filling their lists, and moving around other people carts, screamin kids, and in the frame of mind of spending money they dont wanna spend.

They are literally numb....Zombies....Sheeple.

Your not even 10x as conspicuous as you would think.

LR Yote
As I've said before, I carry myself in such a way that even those who are looking for me, will miss me. Of course, that evening I was "overdressed" since I came straight from work, so I thought I was sticking out.

Learn your weapon's manual of arms

Hi Zen....., Welcome to the group. I suggest that you latch on to somebody knowledgeable about firearms and shooting and get a short course in safe weapons handling and using your pistol. You'll be less stressed and more safe around others. Good practice for using your weapon can be found by joining IDPA (www.idpa.com) ; you'll become proficient in drawing from a holster, shooting on the move, reloading quickly, and most important, safe gun handling. Carry on.

Thats Great !!!
Glad to see you didnt take like everyone was jumping on you.

First few times it does feel unnatural.
Alot of first timers use either our meet n greets or shopping.

With shopping you can use the cart to create a barrier between you
and the public....or take the wife/gf and keep her stay on your strong side.

Yes....hiding behind a woman is allowed...
Just dont make it look like your hiding.

Hardest part is appearing relaxed...because mentally your on "elevated alert"
or at least I am when I carry....unless around other OC's. (Police excluded tho... )
Many of todays holsters are not as obtrusive as ones in the past.
Say compared to a duty belt/holster or dedicated gun belt rig.

Having met you and seen you at Lizzy's....You didnt stick out anymore than the rest of us or anymore than anyone else.

Got reply from store owner.. Your thoughts..

Ok.. here is the e-mail reply from the store owner who I recently (mistakenly) asked his polocy on OC...

"I apologize for not getting back to you yet but I am in the middle of making many changes in the store and haven't quite got to it. I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you so I will write even though in all honesty I haven't reviewed your info. I want you to know that I totally support your and everyone's constitutional rights before I even read your stuff. I would not tell you "NO" to exercising that right. You seem like a very intelligent man so what I will do is appeal to that intelligence and ask you to consider this....A grocery store needs many many customers to exist due to our tiny margins. Many people are simply scared, intimidated, or paranoid about an open weapon. I do not want to lose or offend even one customer or you so I am asking you to consider not carrying in the open while here. Again, this is not no...only a personal request from me to you. That being said I do understand your concern about erosion of our personal rights in America. I hope this note helps you understand my "conundrum".

Thanks,"

The info he is refering to is links to this website and other OC carry info on the web.

I feel at the very least, I should reply based on his willingenss to communicate on the issue.

I am thinking about just a quick responce as to "Let me know your thoughts after you are able to review my info...

Sincerley...

And until (before) I hear from him again, I will carry in his store (unannouced) and see what (if anything) happens. I will say that after reading and learning here I am now confident to carry (anywhere legal) and deal with any concerns effectiveley based on what I have learned here.

That is the typical response. I would talk with him face to face, say you'll show him what people's typical response is during a busy time. It will be exactly like this:

Good video. I would hold off on the face to face until I OC'ed in the store a couple times then bring the receipts and talk to him saying " I was here on such and such day and this day and that day, did you hear about it"? I'll bet you he will say no. Also, carry that day but don't mention it unless he does.

First..
Thats an awesome video.

Second..
Protias brings up another valid point by saying trespass charges could be filed.
Even tho in the e mail the store didnt directly say no,the e mail was worded strong enough to mean No Carry.Maybe I am wrong but I read that to read he doesnt want
any OC in his store.

I was gonna suggest a couple of us get together and do a little shopping.
Only problem is...anyone that read the email to Outdoorsman could be charged also.
IIRC...

So that puts us in a little quandry, now dont it ???

If 20 of us show to by a couple items...its gonna be a little obvious there is some prior knowledge to the situation.

Bummmer...

Guess the only thing Outdoorsman can do now is show him the video and hope it sways him.Or tell the store owner No guns means NO GUNS and armed cops cant shop there.Only unarmed ones can shop in his store.

Actually he sorta gave me permission....

Quote from his e-mail...

Thoughts...???

It almost seems he says he doesn't want you to OC but is giving your permission to CC. However, I do see him saying he doesn't want to carry, but also saying you can. I'd show him that WCI video first before carrying in there though. Otherwise, if he still says no to carry, then tell him he lost a customer and you'll be telling your friends and family to shop elsewhere, like Walmart, who respect our right to carry.

Can we please start a separate thread? We seem to have veered off the original topic.

Thanks!

Anyhow, Delavan, April 3rd, Starbucks, be there or be square!
