What time we're you at Nimmo Walmart? Could have been me lol I was at that Walmart and the TJ Maxx there yesterday

Justine, that's pretty cool perhaps that's what he meant. It definitely took me by surprise lol

It was late around 10-11 PM. He was walking in with his wife and wearing a blue shirt T-shirt. Was that you?

Spoke to a Unicorn.

Was at the range today, and while talking to another gentleman he stated he open carries every where he goes on the Eastern Shore of VA. When I asked if he was familiar with OCDO he had never heard of it and doesn't have a computer at home.

While we were talking he started talking about areas you weren't allowed to carry. Some of the things were incorrect such as you weren't allowed to carry in church unless you are counting money, or anywhere in Sufolk. I tried to explain the correct information but alas I had my wife's car, and all my VCDL cards and fliers were in my car.

All in all it was an interesting conversation though.

Note to self put some cards and fliers in wife's car:banghead:

OC'd at Temperenceville Corner Mart and Melfa Shore Stop. Had to cc while helping tend to buddies bee hives (couldn't VA tuck the bee suit!)rofl.gif

Wow where was he at on the shore? I was in Sting Rays today gassing up my bike and the clerk said she saw someone else in there carrying earlier in the day.

We might have to start the Open Carry ESVA thread with all 4 of us!

OC-ed to Vinny's in Grafton last night with my daughters. No issues.

Today I got out of a meeting early so I swung by Food Lion in work clothes (CC-mode) and saw a man OC-ing at the Change counter thingy. I told him that I was glad to see him OC-ing and that I would be too except for work. He knew about OCDO but I didn't want to take up any more of his time since he was holding his daughter up (somewhat upside down) for her to have the fun of putting the change into the machine. :) I haven't seen another OC-er out and about in a while.

ETA: OC-ed to the Outback Monday and service was a bit slow. The manager came over and was bending over backwards to try to make it right. I wound up accepting a free desert that my daughter wanted. I was sitting strong-side out so I am not sure if his enthusiasm was in any way affected by my carry but I thought it was a bit much. Between a $10 coupon that showed up in the mail that day, tablemates free appetizer, and the free desert we actually ate for a reasonable price as compared to the usual cost.

I just started to OC and I can't really see how it is feasible in Ghent. Blair, Maury and Ghent Elementary really stamp out most of the commercial space in Ghent with their GFSZA 1000' radius. I live literally across the street from Ghent Elementary and I have to use street parking. The whole reason I OC is to feel safer when going to and from my apartment at night on Granby.

I would really appreciate any long time OCers opinions on how to OC in Ghent. (Williams School is also in historic Ghent too)

Oh, goody.

Do we REALLY have to have this discussion again? It seems like only yesterday we finally got ocholsteroc to stop yammering on about the GFSZA...

Carry openly. Me PERSONALLY¹, Idont worry about the 1000 ft rule. I believe several have pointed out that no one has EVER been arrested solely for OCing within 1000ft of a school. I say dont sweat it. Carry on.

¹Reflects my opinion only. Your results may vary. You could always ask for a permission slip to carry within a GFSZ. (CHP)

I agree with the 2 posts above. If you're really concerned, pass the schools on the opposite side of the street, and get a CHP. So far, I've never had any issue and I walk my dogs past a school every day. In urban environments it's nearly impossible to walk outside your house without being within 1000ft of a school zone. But like HearseGuy stated, I'm no lawyer, so do what you're comfortable with.

I just OC-ed to Taste Unlimited in NN City Center and had to walk by Toby Keiths restaurant. I'm sad to say it has a no guns or weapons sign at its entrance. What is the world coming to when Country Singers ban weapons in their restaurant!?!?!

I guess I "won't" have to try his new restaurant after all!

Wow, this really disappoints me. I had recently heard about that restaurant and was considering trying it out. Oh well. Guess I'll find another adventure for the weekend.

The wife and I actually called them out on their fb page, they never responded. Someone tried to say carrying in restuarant that serves alcohol is illegal, I corrected them and that was the last I heard of it.

Perhaps a call to reserve room for a 20-30 person party with a minor conversation might get the job done... When I get home, I will engage and hopefully we can follow through...

A better tact might be to write a snail mail letter to their corporate office - pointing out Va. statutes and major restaurant chains that do not turn good money away. Maybe tell them you were planning a large group meeting there, but will now will have to reconsider.

Tape an open carry info card to their door...

No, no, please don't do that :(

We prefer to take the high road and not deface someone's private property. If they do not want my very well behaved, passive friend with me, then I will respect their wishes and spend my green bucks somewhere else.

I will not leave a bad taste in his mouth that will reflect negatively on all OCers.
