I am very sorry to have to post this, and it comes as quite a shock, but McX has decided that his shop is no longer carry-friendly, for any kind of carry, any kind of firearm.

He says we're all still welcome as customers, but if he sees a gun on someone he'll take it away from them.
Also, he will no longer be on OCDO or Facebook or attend any 2A events.

Mechanix, Ltd.; 1626 Douglas Ave.; Racine, WI; 53404-2722

He says that his business & marriage have been devastated (my word, his sentiment) by his devotion to the cause of 2A rights & he is reprioritizing (ditto), and urges the rest of us to do the same.
Actually, he put it quite a bit more forcefully, bluntly, & with more 'colorful' language.

Too bad. Sounds like it isn't to do with guns, it's to do with someone that's unstable.

Anyway...

Took a walk on Monroe St in Madistan today, the following are posted:

Lakeview Veterinary Clinic

Marie's Chocolates (posted twice, once above the door, once beside the door for extra protection )

Madison Public Library

Christian Science Reading Room

So he's gone from a 2A advocate to willing to commit theft rather than ask somebody to simply leave after informing them of the policy?

I wouldn't say unstable.
Very very stressed right now, yes,
and I think the worst I could say is that he wasn't using his resources as well as he wanted to
+
there are some decisions he's making now that seem to be contradictory (or as msteinhilber pointed out, downright bad).

I sincerely hope his situation improves.
Other than bringing him business & being there to listen, I don't know what any of us can do to help him save his business or marriage.
And honestly, I'm not too inclined to subject myself to that rant again.

Personally, I think you Milwaukee folks need to get out of that corner of the state for a while. Relax out in the boonies for a bit. Get rid of some of that stress caused by living on top of each other.

I work for a company that was based in Milwaukee but moved most of their operation out by me. Many employees came with. I don't know ONE of them that would want to go back. I personally lived in Madison for a few years, that was PLENTY and it doesn't hold a candle to Milwaukee. I shudder just thinking about it.

I am very saddened by this turn of events. McX was a tireless supporter of the 2A, contributed much toward advancing gun rights in Wisconsin, and always found a way to lighten things up with his humor... but not so much lately. I hope things haven't gotten too far out of hand for him to recover the pieces of his life. Prayers and best wishes and for him and his family.

McX is not a 2nd amend. anti , He was one of the 1st if not the 1st to publicly welcome open carriers of firearms into his buisness. McX is a true friend and I for one will not abandon (friend) ship. His # 1 priority right now is his marrage. So get back to being a friend to one in need ,for true friends don't dessert a (friend) ship at the first signs of taking on water.

Enough discussion of McX on the board.

If you feel the need to respond my pm is open.

Delavan, Napa Auto Parts.

Delavan, Napa Auto Parts is now posted with a "No Weapons" sign. Bet they won't say a word to all the mechanics that come in with a big knife on their side.

A few Madison area business that do not allow concealed carry...

  • Both West Towne and East Towne Malls; they're owned by CBL Properties, but I don't know if that's a company decision. All the mall entrances are posted, however, last I was there, most of the anchor stores are not.
  • Buffalo Wild Wings in Monona; I've seen several BW3 locations that are posted, but not all of them. I was at one in Dubuque the other day that wasn't posted.
  • Weary Traveler on Willie Street
  • Glass Nickel on Atwood; would love to know if that's a location decision, or company. I haven't been back to a Glass Nickel since I saw this one was posted.
  • Monona Terrace
Added both posts. BW3 is anti-protection, hence why they are in the corporate section. And welcome to OCDO!

The NAPA in Mount Horeb has a firearm dealership associated with it. Guns and break pads are set on the same counter. Also is a FFL tranfer agent at a very reasonable price. Is a preferred FFL for Buds Guns. If you acquiring a gun through Buds all you have to do is chose them from the select FFL information on the Buds site when ordering.

I know Aldi's is listed in the 'corporate' group up there, but I'd been to several while carrying with no problems & no signs telling me "we don't want your kind here".

Tried to go to one yesterday & their "go away" sign was on the inner door, by which point the customer is stuck going in or waiting for someone else to come along. Since I wasn't carrying anyway, I went in, walked through an unused checkout lane & asked the cashier to call a manager.

She showed up & I explained that I'd shopped there many times over the last 6 years or so, many of those trips while armed, with no problems from anyone. But now that they have a "no self-defense" sign I won't be shopping there any more.

She looked puzzled until I clarified "no self defense", also called "no weapons"?
Oh, she understood that.

I also pointed out that because of the placement of the sign I had been made a criminal - I couldn't see it before I entered the property, & couldn't leave the property once I'd seen it! [She couldn't tell I wasn't carrying, & I wasn't about to let her off the hook.]

She said she understood my point, but it's company policy, & while she'll pass the complaint up the line she will also ask for another sign to put on the outside door.
:banghead: :cuss:
With all the other grocery options in this area, including a Pick-n-save within sight & even comparably low-priced ones like Woodman's & Save-a-Lot, I don't see how Aldi can think this policy is economically viable.

1. Aldi's is a German company, so makes complete sense.

2. Delavan Auto Zone close to NAPA that Greg says is posted. That NAPA is lightly stocked anyway.

I understand this is the WI forum, however, are we sure it is a Corporate policy or just a WI franchisee policy? I open carried at 2 different BW3 in Missouri and had ZERO issues. In those cases, I am not sure if THEY are Corporate or franchisee.

Huh? I used them as my primary stocking NAPA when I owned my shop and they always had stuff in stock. They are owned by MPEC Inc. based in Rockford, IL. http://mpeconline.com/contact.asp

Personally, I use (and carry at) the Elkhorn NAPA. The owner of that one isn't IL based.
