Maybe follow up with a phone call inquiring if they received the written request, if/when they say they haven't ask for a fax# and contact. Send fax and card.

Repeat this once a week on fridays until you receive confirmation and contact person.

Just brainstorming with you.

I emailed the VCDL asking for help in fighting this infringement of our rights. Hopefully I'll know something soon. :)

I spoke to an attorney about possibly filing suit against the VBPD. He told me that the sign stands simply as a request, and we can choose to ignore that request (much like I did when I first encountered it). The only way to have legal standing to file suit would be if the PD attempted to enforce the sign, such as telling us that we had to disarm.

My suggestion is that we keep our eyes and ears open, and if anyone comes across any enforcement attempts, we can get this ball rolling. Until then, all we can do is try to convince the City Manager's office that the sign is a violation, and needs to be removed.

And this is just a subset of the overall point that every pro-gun-rights person should use at every opportunity:

Any place where it is possible for a criminal to take a gun, a law-abiding citizen should also be able to take a gun

Until you can prove that there are no cops who are criminals, that would equally apply to this particular situation.
