Be careful going there armed. My wife and I were carrying there at that one and we noticed the "no firearms" sign there. After emailing the CSAs at BWW, they told me "...we support the 2nd Amendment but we don't think firearms should be in a restaurant environment..."

Be careful of what? Being asked to leave? Because that is the worst that can happen...

The Lodge for some beer and apps. last Saturday afternoon. Not a single comment.

FWIW, A friend of mine that has just gotten into firearms is now starting to oc.

(Before anyone starts to preach, yes, I have been instructing him on the safe handling of firearms and I have yet to see anyone handle them with more respect than me - so he's all good.)

Anyhow, he knows that I am a long time gun owner, carrier and user. I like to think that my constant encouraging has had something to do with his new found interest. Here's to another VERY law abiding citizen oc-ing. Hurray!

BEST PART: He owns Cactus Aviation Flight School (http://www.cactuslv.com) in the Henderson Executive Terminal and he now has a policy to allow the lawful carrying (open) of firearms in his business. Yes, ON airport property owned by the county. Heads up: Before you post about the legalities of this, do your homework and get your facts right. This is OPEN carry, not concealed, on county property and there is NO security screening provision as per 49 CFR 1540.111.
So, Cactus Aviation Flight School in Henderson, NV is pro 2A! Please patronize them proudly.

Also, a shout out to the guy that was fellow oc-ing Friday night about 7 at the Walmart on Centennial and Tropical in the Northwest. I threw you a quick thumbs up. Kudos!

Cool. I've always wanted to pursue my pilots license, now I know there is a place for me.

I'm curious, my understanding is that it is still unlawful to carry ON any plane, even private ones, even if it's yours, right? I ha vent done any homework on it, as I haven't had a chance to exercise the idea... :)

I imagine you already know the answer, so save my curiosity the homework.

It has nothing to do with legalities. It has to do with the county does not follow the law and if someone calls you in you can expect to have a face to face. If you have to deal with HPD you most likely will not have an issue. If it is METRO, you just might.

You can most certainly carry on private planes.

I've not flown since I took some familiarity lessons while in the Navy (I wasn't in the aviation pipeline, but did get to have some fun with them for a time.) I've always wanted to go back. I fell in love with flying a helicopter. I, too, will look into patronizing this business!

It is legal. NV law doesn't address open carry concerning it and leaves it to Federal Law. Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR 1540.111) says, in short, "an individual may not have a weapon, explosive, or incendiary, on or about the individual's person or accessible property—
(1) When performance has begun of the inspection of the individual's person or accessible property before entering a sterile area, or before boarding an aircraft for which screening is conducted
"
So, no security screening, no problem open carrying. BTW, think Alaskan bush pilots. They carry all the time. Most people incorrectly think that the runway is the sterile area. Not so. I have personally flown a small GA plane into major airports, landed and then had to check a bag containing a weapon so that I could then airline back home. It's sterile from where you have an inspection and anywhere thereafter that you can travel upto the point where you cross the "exit only" point, thus leaving the sterile area. Make sense? Even though I may have had a weapon on me when I got out of the plane on the ramp I could not then board a Southwest plane without first going through screening. It was never my plane, runway, or even the airport that was sterile. Sterile area has an entrance and an exit...and several locked doors you can't get in or out along that route.

TBG,
I have no idea what you mean. I thought it was ALL about legalities. No? Not picking on anyone, but from your past postings I had always thought you encouraged us to exercise our rights within the law, even in the face of adversity. You even told me before that I did not have to ID myself to police if they don't have pc. Isn't this the same kind of thing? Sure you may get hassled carrying in an airport, but you are totally within your legal rights. What am I missing? I have the upmost respect for you and am in no way trying to start anything. I just didn't understand your comment that it had nothing to do with legalities. Please expand on that. Thanks.

Re: Where did you carry today and how did it go?

Cool, exactly the kind of explanation I was hoping for.

I think I was thinking of cell phone use, which is apparently limited, even when on the ground, even if it is your plane. Saw something about it on mythbusters a while back.

No, I can't cite it, but it doesn't much matter either way. That problem should be abolished long before I have a plane. :)

I think The Big Guy is just telling you what you can expect. Yes, you would be legal, but your "ride" may depend on who sees you.

Keep in mind it is legal to open carry into Metro police buildings to conduct business. But even I (and I doubt The Big Guy) would not recommend it yet, as much as we sorely need a clean-cut defendant on the issue.

I in no way was trying to indicate that you should not carry at the Henderson Airport or not to assert your rights. I simply stated that if you do, and it is county property, and someone calls it in, and METRO responds, be aware that they do not follow the law nor even know it in many cases. You can carry in county buildings under law but expect to be arrested if you do, that's all. Always try to know what you're facing going in. Unfortunately in too many cases the "law" only protects you after the fact if your pockets are deep enough.

Thanks TBG. Should've known you were just saying what to expect and not what you thought was "right". A Three's Company moment (misunderstanding) on my part.

And I totally agree about the law only protecting you after the fact - most of the time. A sad commentary where we have the illusion of innocent until proven guilty, but the reality of the inverse with "proof" being "might is right". Hence the importance of the 2A. Without it, none of the others are defendable. But I wanna stay happy (and on topic) so I'll close. Thanks again for the clarification. "Carry" on.

Reno DMV, no issues, except the counter person said, "You must be <my first name>." My reputation precedes me. Turns out she is the wife of my co-worker, who I let know I would be late while I was at the DMV.

NRS 202.3673 sign on a door specifically mentioned concealed firearms. Armed guard payed me no notice, probably didn't see my Glock in my kydex holster against my black shirt.

Man, things are going well in Reno/Sparks for OC (except that one time). Maybe I'll OC to court for my trial.

Where did you carry today and how did it go?

Registered a handgun at the Henderson substation yesterday, took me long enough to get it done....so much for 72 hours. Ha - or if you asked the ffl I dealt with, 24 hrs! ;)

The guy was friendly enough and let me know technically he wasn't supposed to do it there because my address is on the cusp of las Vegas and Henderson (technically las Vegas), but that he would do it as a courtesy and set me up.

After finishing up he says "congratulations" and says that I need to keep that blue card on me at "all times" and that it is not a CCW, though I can legally carry the gun in its case - but not in NLV because they are different and the ammo and gun have to be kept entirely separate, and actually just don't go to NLV.

Thought that was interesting...and just smiled, said thank you and left.

Strapped the holster on and headed to Wally World at Marks St. No issues as usual...
