It is legal. NV law doesn't address open carry concerning it and leaves it to Federal Law. Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR 1540.111) says, in short, "an individual may not have a weapon, explosive, or incendiary, on or about the individual's person or accessible property—
(1) When performance has begun of the inspection of the individual's person or accessible property before entering a sterile area, or before boarding an aircraft for which screening is conducted"
So, no security screening, no problem open carrying. BTW, think Alaskan bush pilots. They carry all the time. Most people incorrectly think that the runway is the sterile area. Not so. I have personally flown a small GA plane into major airports, landed and then had to check a bag containing a weapon so that I could then airline back home. It's sterile from where you have an inspection and anywhere thereafter that you can travel upto the point where you cross the "exit only" point, thus leaving the sterile area. Make sense? Even though I may have had a weapon on me when I got out of the plane on the ramp I could not then board a Southwest plane without first going through screening. It was never my plane, runway, or even the airport that was sterile. Sterile area has an entrance and an exit...and several locked doors you can't get in or out along that route.
TBG,
I have no idea what you mean. I thought it was ALL about legalities. No? Not picking on anyone, but from your past postings I had always thought you encouraged us to exercise our rights within the law, even in the face of adversity. You even told me before that I did not have to ID myself to police if they don't have pc. Isn't this the same kind of thing? Sure you may get hassled carrying in an airport, but you are totally within your legal rights. What am I missing? I have the upmost respect for you and am in no way trying to start anything. I just didn't understand your comment that it had nothing to do with legalities. Please expand on that. Thanks.
