OC'd around mason last night for parade and fireworks.

one of the sheriff dept. guys parked behind my jeep so that he could do traffic control, i think he was a little surprised at me when i did the whole unloading thing right in front of him, but nothing was said to me at all and i had no issues.

.... Also OC'd in Monroe, and at a rest stop...

.... and a fireworks tent in Monroe off I-75 ...

Good to hear you guys had no issues down here. We're always happy to have more OC's in Monroe, there are just a few of us regulars around here.

Just an FYI. The fireworks place @ exit 9 (South Otter Creek) has great prices and the entire building is buy 1 get 1 free, including mix and match. I think it's the best place around here as far as prices.

Welcome!

Do you have a CPL (carry permit)? If not then you need to be careful to NOT handle your pistol "inside" (within the confines) of your car. You need to only handle the gun COMPLETELY OUTSIDE the cars interior or the trunk when taking it out of the case or putting it back in the case.

And once your pistol is loaded and holstered be careful to NOT lean back inside for anything and let the gun pass that invisible line from "outside" to "inside"......

Because it is illegal to possess (handling it is possessing) in a vehicle without a CPL... but it is legal to transport it AFTER it has been put in a case.

So even though you might be inclined to hide your gun inside the trunk or car while handling it during uncasing and loading or unloading and casing so as not to "scare" anyone doing so without a CPL is ... illegal.

Please consider contacting someone who already OC's near you and go for coffee with them to help ease stepping into the world of OC. And attend any OC events (picnics, dinners, outings) set up near you and mentioned on this forum.
Edited to add:
On topic... Yooperlady and I with my OC'd sidearm got out and about again today...

And in Saginaw we went to:

Taco Bell on Tittabawassee Rd.
Wal Mart on Bay Rd.
PetSmart

Then to Lamplighter Flowers in Bridgeport to get roses for my HunnieBunnie Yooperlady.

And no one much cared about my sidearm anywhere... exactly as it should be.

Thanks a ton guys, I dont think ive ever joined a forum and had such a welcomed and warm response lol. I do not have my CPL currently but am in the process of setting up to register for the class. One quick question, Ive read you cant OC where a liquor license is in place, would this include wal mart and other stores like that? I havent really got a straight answer from all the reading Ive done. Again thanks for the helpful response and hope to make some good friends here.

Thomas, welcome. And yes, that would include walmart, and any other location which holds a liquor license, whether they use it or not. Keep in mind that this also includes their parking lots, lawns, and any other part of their property.

You may be thinking "but they sell guns!" and yet it doesn't matter. Don't carry there at all, and don't even park there with a gun in your trunk, until you have a CPL.

Sounds like his ego was wounded that he wasn't the only armed one there

Yeah, I think so too because he also began questioning me about whether the body armor I was wearing was legal too. I happily explained that it was lawful as long as you werent a violent felon or a minor. The young lady who was assisting me with selecting fireworks had to snap at the guard and tell him to leave me alone. Then another DJ began asking me over the loudspeaker whether I had a CPL. I gave him a thumbs up and quickly concluded my transaction and got the heck out of there. I mean my shopping expereince just became surreal.

On Topic: OCed at Walmart in Livonia this morning, no problems, no issues.

Once again let me suggest contacting someone who already open carries and go on your first outing with them along to help ease the "jitters" and to point out any possible pitfalls... and... if an incident does occur the old hand at it can show ya how to deal with it productively.

Oh yeah... do you have a recording device and do you understand the recording laws? A recorder is helpful to prove what really happened instead of what someone said happened... and it can also prove that what someone said happened never did happen too.

You may be thinking "but they sell guns!" and yet it doesn't matter.

I know Michigander knows this but it's info for Thomas437...they get around that because, unlike CC, the law allows a place with a liquor license to give permission for people to OC. So even though Walmart sells alcohol and guns if you purchase a gun from them they are giving you implied permission to possess that gun until you leave their property.

http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(wr...g.aspx?page=getObject&objectName=mcl-750-234d

(1) Except as provided in subsection (2), a person shall not possess a firearm on the premises of any of the following:

. . .

(h) An establishment licensed under the Michigan liquor control act, Act No. 8 of the Public Acts of the Extra Session of 1933, being sections 436.1 to 436.58 of the Michigan Compiled Laws.

(2) This section does not apply to any of the following:

. . .

(d) A person who possesses a firearm on the premises of an entity described in subsection (1) if that possession is with the permission of the owner or an agent of the owner of that entity.

If you include your location in your profile I'm sure you'll get a couple of offers from the folks here to meet up somewhere.

OC'd at the Grandville 4th of July parade; the carnival on the Grandville Middle School lawn, walked into the Middle school to cool down for about 20 minutes (100*F during the carnival), and downtown Grand Rapids for about an hour before and during the fireworks. Also carried in the Family Fare in Grandville, and the Dollar General on Stocking Ave in NW Grand Rapids. Walked by many LEO's and various "Officials"... nothing was said to me.

On Thursday I OC'd around the downtown area of Grand Haven for about 45 minutes and at the Grand Haven State Park; DNR officer said "Hi". This was the only law enforcement contact I've had in a long time. :)

Friday, downtown Standale: McDonald's and the gas station on Lk Michigan Drive/Wilson.

OC`d yesterday here in Lapeer at the Speedy-Q gas station and the today in Walmart in Lapeer also. I felt pretty nervous in Walmart as I have never OC`d through the whole store before. I have come through the lube and tire department and out to sporting goods. Anyway, all went well and it seemed like people excepted it as normal. I did get a chance to look at some of the sport utility rifles that they sell. I did realize how light they actually feel. All in all, a good expierience.

Yooperlady and I were out and about today...

Beacon & Bridge gas station in Montrose

Then on to Taco Bell in Clio

Then Clio's Wal Mart ...

And no one much cared except for a family in Wal Mart that stared and stared and stared...... I began to wonder if maybe I had forgotten to zip my fly or something.

I have seen shoplifters run from police that were not even on site for them. Seriously. Many are high functioning drug addicts, still take showers, can drive, but (brain no longer works correctly/rationally) add this to your appearance {yes if you were not so darn smart & pleasant in nature, you could easily be mistaken for an off duty command officer}. They could have been just busy bodies??? But then again...
