I just want to reiterate a post I made earlier in this thread:

Starbucks' recent position far outweighs that setback, and helps establish a precedent that OC is legal and acceptable, even if controversial.

Wait and see, that's going to be the example that more and more companies follow. Starbucks is posting record earnings. Who else can say that?

What model would you want your company to emulate? Would you want to be successful like Starbucks, or successful like Peet's and Fuddruckers?

Let's consider my question with today's persepctive, shall we? :)

I recently posted the following in another thread:
Long time reader but I registered today to post this:

My son and OC'd at Fuddrucker's on Duke Street in Alexandria last night. We had done so several times before so we both were stunned when the manager came up to us (at our table, after we had ordered and paid but before we were served) and asked if we were police officers. When he informed us that company policy only allowed police officers to carry in the restaurant, I asked for our money back. As he was getting our money, my son and I discussed the possibility that we had been transported to an alternative universe. The manager returned with our money and stated again that it was company policy. I told him that we were leaving and would not be back but that I did not believe that the company had a policy forbidding OCing by non-police as I had OC'd in this very store many times and that I had never had a problem doing so at any other Fuddrucker's in the area. He turned and walked away without a word and we left.

We ended up eating at Lone Star down Duke Street where we Oc'd without incident.
The moderator asked that additional discussion of this topic appear in a new thread, so here it is.

I just received the following response from Fuddruckers corporate headquarters regarding their policy with respect to carrying in their stores:
Please accept my apologies for the delayed response.

Open carry laws are changing in various states. Therefore, restaurants are more clearly communicating their policies to guests. Fuddruckers has had a ‘No Weapons’ policy for several years but it wasn’t being enforced in all locations. By enforcing its no-weapons policy, Fuddruckers is enforcing its rights as a private business to create the sort of dining environment we believe best suits and appeals to all or the majority of our guests.

If you’d like to further discuss this matter, please feel free to contact Mary Hamill, Vice President of HR, at the number below.

On behalf of Fuddruckers, Inc., we want express our sincerest appreciation for your patronage. We are truly sorry if our policy has forced you or your family to find an alternate dining facility.

Regard,

Iomitted the name of the writer for privacy reasons, but the meesage is unambiguous---no weapons in Fuddruckers.

I had no ideathat Fuddruckers has ano weapons policy. I have OCd in many of their stores without incident. I wonder if all stores will be enforcing this rule?

Bankruptcy can be a good business procedure for corporate conglomerates.

Still IMO it shows the ineptness of their senior management.

I've been on the Health Department site before, it will make you want to never eat out.

Funny thing, fast food restaurants are usually the cleanest, since they don't really prep food and they clean several times a day.

Freezer to grill to customer...not much to go wrong.

I would have to seriously disagree. Fast food vendors can be some of the worst.

What you can't see can make you extremely ill, even kill you.

I hear ya, but if you look at health dept reports for your local fast food restaurants and then at the independent places, you may change your mind.

http://www.healthspace.ca/Clients/VDH/Henrico/Henrico_Website.nsf

Makes for some interesting reading.

Besides, that article included Jack In The Box. Even their uncontaminated food will kill you! That's why they have a law that you must have alcohol in your system to eat there. :)

eta: While finding the Henrico County Health Dept link, I read some of the Mickey D write ups. They aren't all as clean as I thought.

When I was 17 I worked at Burger King and we spend a huge amount of time cleaning the place. That particular BK has since closed, but I can vouch for it's cleanliness during that period of time.

There is a reason I've never worked fast food. I explained to my friends: "I enjoy eating there - I don't want to know what goes on behind the counter."

Fuddruckers Chain Feeling Heat?

The hamburger chain Fuddruckers is unleashing the raw anger of pro-gun advocates, after a move by its Austin, Texas, corporate parent to begin enforcing a no-weapons policy.

Earlier this month, Fuddruckers managers in some locations informed their patrons carrying visible pistols that—unless they were police — they’d have to leave. Gun-toters have been posting their shock and outrage on a number of Web forums, like this one.

Dwayne Chambers, senior vice president of marketing and brand development for Fuddruckers parent Magic Brands LLC told the Law Blog that there had always been a no-weapons policy at the company, which operates about 60 Fuddruckers locations in about 10 states, as well as 13 Koo Koo Roo restaurants in California. That just “wasn’t communicated openly,” he said. “We’ve chosen to make sure the policy is communicated in a uniform way.”

But some gun-toters who didn’t want to give up Fuddruckers figured out a way to have their fries and their pistols too—they confirmed with the corporate office that its no-weapons policy doesn’t apply to the 135-franchisee owned Fuddruckers around the country. The franchisees are free to set their own policies.

If they can confirm through corporate the policy of the franchise locations then surely they can understand that corporate still receives... oh screw it, been over it already.
