Ack. Definitely not Virginia until we somehow get rid of no CC in places that "can" serve alcohol. Meaning if I go to a diner at 6am in the morning for a cup of coffee, I have to OC even though they wouldn't be serving alcohol for another 10 hours or so.
do you have any idea what maryalnd was like? VA is liek a whoel different world to me legal wise

I'm going to go with Montana (surprise, surpise)

No, we can't carry in schools, gov't buildings, and post offices...

But I don't disagree with that really, and I can carry my rifle on my shoulder with my pistol on my hip if I wanted to without any technicalities that come to mind. Also, it's a Gold Star State, so y'all already know what comes with that...

With a CHP you can open carry a non-full auto rifle in Virginia. Without a CHP one still can open carry but there are a few restrictions, depending on locality and the features of the rifle.

Edit to add link to 18.2-287.4

Depends on what you consider restricted. I wouldn't consider a straight stock AR15 with a 20 round magazine underarmed, that is legal to carry in Arlington and isn't covered by the law. If you have a permit you are exempt as well.

but doesnt the law prevent me based upon population here? Or does it read that

A
&B
with (i)[the population stipulation] and (ii) pertaining to B?

18.2-287.4 restricts certain weapons in certain counties for most people. If you have a CHP the restrictions do not apply to you. If you do not have a CHP you can still open carry a rifle that doesn't have a folding stock or is threaded for a suppressor and you are restricted to magazines of 20 round capacity or less. I'll put it this way permit or not, you are legal to carry a AR15 or other semiautomatic rifle with a straight stock and loaded with a 20 round magazine, in Arlington. There are some localities with hunting regulations that affect long guns but Arlington and Fairfax are not those.

how is the weather in Alaska for the most part?

I'll be the first to mention Alaska. You are required to inform an LEO that you are carrying, and most of them are fine with ordinary citizens having a CCW or OCW. No permit is required for both CC and OC, and most of the locals are pretty accustomed to the sight of firearms. Guns have always been and always will be a part of The Last Frontier. We also have the castle doctrine where, no citizen has a duty to retreat.
