What is the WVCDL? And how do I join, but anyway I was in walmart last Saturday and I ran into 2 WV state troopers they came up and the typical whatcha doin causal like but they just wanted id but they really didn't push the issue to much. But you could tell that they weren't to happy but accepted the fact I had it. They just stood and talked to me for a few minutes then told me to have a great day and walked away.

This is why I quit carrying my driver's license when I open carry. I have a official government PIV card that I carry, if I want to present ID, or if they claim a concealed violation (I have my permit, which would require me to have a picture ID). It is a gubment picture ID, but only has my name, picture, contractor, and department of Housing and Urban Development on it, and a few other things, but no license number, registration number. To read the rest of the information, they'd need a smart card reader (which I'm sure is coming). That way, I'm not dishonest when I tell them I do not have my license on me. I do this precisely so they cannot request my license, to give dispatch my number.

I don't like the "paper's please" atmosphere.

I OCed in Summersville a couple of months ago, BP gas station and Hibbett's Sports. No issues. I have CCed for years, and recently decided to OC. I hope OC catches on with more law abiding citizens. It is great. I can exercise my rights, and make a statement without saying a word.

OCed at Cowen Y Mart -- no issue just funny looks. After we stepped out of the store, my wife was wondering why everyone was looking at us -- then she remembered it's warm enough to forgo the jacket.:)

I used to OC a lot then got CC. Started OCing more often. I OC in Newell and Chester areas mainly. The other day i had to go to walmart which is in Ohio. I OCed there without incident. Then I went into the autozone. I was questioned by the manager then he asked me some questions about OC. Overall I usually dont have issues in the northern panhandle.

OC'd this weekend!

Oc'd this weekend in several places around Morgantown. First was on Beechurst ave. at a nice Taiwanese restaurant. Came in concealing my weapon, then got back from the bathroom from washing my hands took off my jacket while standing up then sat down at our table. The workers kinda looked at us a little funny for a bit but then they seemed fine. Next stop was about a 2 hr stretch at the Morgantown mall outside of Westover. Walked in and out of numerous stores and the food court, pretty much saw the whole place. People certainly did notice my firearm but didn't seem alarmed about it. Next stop was Gabe's right next to the mall. Again people were alert to the fact that I was carrying but didn't seem to be alarmed. The manager walked past me while I was waiting for my girlfriend to exit the changing room. He said hello and asked how I was and I was friendly back to him and nothing more was said. But when I was checking out some guy was just entering in line behind me and he stood pretty far behind me until I was through checking out. I think I made him really uneasy. Last stop was wal-mart in Granville. People seemed ok,cashier was a little uneasy. Something was going on inside the store before I got there so when I was leaving there were two cops outside the door I chose to exit from. They were talking to a couple of wal-mart employees and I walked about 4 to 6 feet in front of them with my magazine pouch facing them. I'm sure once I crossed the street and turned right they saw my firearm. But I think they were to busy with the problem at hand to really pay attention to me. Right before I got to my car I passed a worker gathering carts with my firearm facing him and he complimented my handgun. All in all, it was a decent first time ever oc and I look forward to doing it more often.

Carrying at the mall is bad juju. The main entrance is posted and the malls code of conduct located through out the mall also states it.
I regularly carry at Walmart and Gabes with no issue.
Welcome to Morgantown.

Welcome to Morgantown.

I have a question, being originally from WV and still going there about twice a year, do these signs have the force of law, or all they can do is ask you to leave and if you refuse you can be charged with trespassing?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Morgantown.

I checked the enterance that leads to the food court and movie theater very well and I didn't see any signs or "no gun stickers". And your sure that you have read that they have a no open carry policy?

OCed at the Four Seasons Outfitters in Richwood and had a nice conversation about current federal legislation and NICS checks with the guy working the counter. Also OCed at the greenhouse next door (stop for ramps) and the Birch River Go-Mart. No issues.

OC'ed the other day at cabelas in wheeling. Of course no issues. I bought a new AR15 while there and the salesman commented on my sidearm and said its nice to see people carrying. Had a great time there with the family. Spent way too much $$$$. Also OC'ed in some of the other stores at the highlands without incident.

You were right! Before when I open carried there I didn't see the malls code of conduct article on the wall. You think they would put a "No gun" sticker on the front door right next to the "no smoking" sticker. That article is tucked away in the corner of the enterance where people don't usually look when entering a building. I hope other places put a "no gun" sticker on their front door so this confusion doesn't continue. Thanks for the heads up in this matter.

Another Huntington OC

This one was not as eventful as some of my others. In fact, I believe that the local LEO's know me by sight at least at this point. I have OC'd everyday for many months now and it has been sometime since I had a negative encounter. Today I OC'd in Gamestop and Coldstone Creamery in Pullman Plaza. The only comment was from a girl working at Coldstone who wanted to hold my Glock. Obviously I politely declined. Huntington has been uneventful for legally armed citizens recently. Even the Cabell County Sheriff's Deputy outside the courthouse barely looked twice when I walked back to my car.

Unionbound,

In case you haven't received an official welcome, Welcome to OCDO and to OCing. I am glad that your experiences have been positive. I reside in Virginia but travel often to WV and it is always great to know there are new OCers out there exercising there 2A rights. Please continue to post your experiences. I will say, though, that I don't think any of us should "hope other places put a "no gun" sticker on their front door" as you have stated. Those stickers don't do anything good for our cause as they make uninformed people think that it is law that guns cannot be carried by citizens. And in general it puts firearms in a negative light. It is good enough to know that a given establishment is anti-2A/self-defense/liberty without them advertising it to the whole world with obnoxious stickers. Of course, I would stop spending money in such establishments as soon as I found out about it but if you had to go and you were carrying all they can do is ask you to leave. And, of course, I would politely leave. Who knows? Maybe the appearance of normal people with firearms and a little education (e.g., reminding them that more violence, not less, occurs in GFZs) would make them open to changing their policies.

Anyway, sorry for the long-winded rant. And, again, welcome.
