Amen!

I know it seems like such a little thing, and it is your constitutional right to exercise, but the way the media runs with stories without fact checking, law enforcement enforcing laws that don't exist, and others automatically making legal firearm owners into the villains in every scenario, until the right legislation is passed and written into the books, the slightest little hiccup can and will derail several years worth of effort by many people.

I hate to be that guy here. I can't force you, but I'd like to request that you refrain from OCing around anything controversial for a little while. At least until the end of August or so.

Reason being, with everything happening in the Legislature right now, any negative press about OC could severely damage 2A Bills in progress. Even if the activity in question is legal, some people don't care about that distinction.
I've been avoiding controversy for several years, since the usmcbess "incident", and my tolerance for avoiding controversy is wearing thin. As is my tolerance for politicians who, it could be argued, are not entirely on-board with restoring liberty in-spite of their claims to the contrary when challenged on this subject. A certain state senator from St. Charles is but one example of such a politician.

I open carried today at Bank of America in Independence, Mo behind the Quik Trip at 41st and Noland, Rd. just south of I-70. I did not get in the Teller line. I had some business with one of their personal bankers behind a desk. I did not seem to even raise an eyebrow. I do look just like an old farmer with a pistol though.

CONGRATS!!

I never had any problems OCing with BoA; I still don't care for them and don't use them anymore, but it wasn't because of their stance on OCing.

Dierbergs in Florissant

I just returned from Dierbergs near where I live in Florissant. I shop there 3-4 times a week, although not much in the evenings. They will usually have security (being off-duty LEO) in the building later at night posted by the door.
I walked in and made my way to the deli to pick up some delicious chicken. I wads approached by security, being a LEO from Brentwood. He stated that he would like me to cover up my firearm, which I declined (respectively) stating that I am within my rights. He then stated his opinion that he did not have a problem with it himself, but that I would most likely scare the crap out of people. He stated as he did not have an issue with it himself, if he was called upon by Dierbergs employees he would have to enforce the issue of me leaving if the need arises.

I had what I needed and was going to be on my way anyway. We were walking and talking about holsters and what I was carrying. I had a Blackhawk Serpa and my SR9C. He was close to guess that I had a Serpa and a SR40. Not bad awareness on his part. We stepped outside and chatted for about 5 minutes about OC and CCW and random stuff/opinions/holsters. We shook hands and bid each other goodbye.

I applaud his professionalism on the matter, and him respecting my rights. We each understood and respected each others views. I emailed the Chief of his jurisdiction about his professionalism and respect.

I wish my other LEO encounters will be of the same accord, but who knows.

Except for the fact that he even approached you and broached the subject/gave a warning.

I don't know what it is, but the thought of the crap literally being scared out of someone as a result of open carry greatly amuses me. Although, I would rather not be close enough to smell it or be responsible for cleaning up the mess.

Did someone pick on you when you were little?

OTOH - watching the antics of an extreme hoplophobic go through the mental gyrations of Gun/OMG/Gun/OMG can be worth recording for posterity :uhoh:

As far is MO is concerned, if you are OC you do not need to provide ID or CCW permit to anyone, including LEOs, unless they can articulate reasonable suspicion that you have committed a crime. If the "two plain clothes guys" are not LEOs, then there is absolutely no reason that you would need to show them a CC permit.

What about those municipalities that have an ordinance against open carry without a CCW permit?

Kyle keep us posted on your email reply from the Chief!!!!!!

He just stated he is happy to hear positive thoughts on his officers. I did not explain in detail, I just sent him a quick email recognizing this officer for being respectful.

Raytown Walmart Encounter

Walked into Walmart yesterday afternoon and was immediately greeted by a Raytown officer. He informed me that Walmart does not allow Open Carry. I informed him that the Corporate policy actually does. He then informs me that the manager had asked him to "ask customers carrying weapons to return their weapons to their vehicles to shop in here". I told him that I would have no problem leaving the store WHEN the manager comes and asks me to leave (I have no problem taking my money elsewhere to spend). I then asked him if there was anything else I could do for him. He said "no" and I continued in and finished my shopping.

I have Open Carried in this store for over a year now with only one other encounter with LEOs and occasional questions from staff and other shoppers.

I have Open Carried in the Raytown, Independence, Lee's Summit, and Kansas City area continually for over a year now with very little issues and only two interactions with LEOs (both Walmart). Have passed by and greeted several LEOs along the way.

I enjoy reading this Forum Topic and hearing about other encounters with LEO's, Managers, and fellow citizens.

Sounds like the cop may have been bluffing if he did not get the manager. Good job calling his bluff.

Outright lying i'd say but whats new? Walmart stores follows corporate policy which is to follow state statute. Therefore you can't be trespassed for carrying a firearm in stores. If a manager actually tried to I would suggest he be educated on corporate policy and informed he would be reported to head office. If he was belligerent or rude the argument could be made he was being harassing. He'd soon realize making an issue would be a very bad idea.

Have OC every time I have been in the Raytown wallmart...I'm thinking maybe its a substation or something like that as there are usually a couple squad cars there. I have never been approached by one, but every time I go in I prepare for an encounter, based on the stories of others. I DID have 3 Wallmart security employees surround me, at the Lees Summit Wallmart, about 4 years ago, and try to inform me of firearm laws and store policy, I calmly stood my ground....which after the head of security did some checking, sent me a letter thanking me for patronizing the store and I was welcome to OC whenever I shopped there. Jus BECAUSE they are security or even LEO's doesnt necessarily mean they know the applicable firearm laws.

Open carry in cedar hill

I open carry pretty much every time I go to town with no problems. However today I noticed that radickers market doesn't allow weapons to be carried in the store. I unholstered since I needed charcoal the other store doesn't carry. I have instructed the wife that we will no longer shop there due to their feelings on me protecting my family while I shop. I respect their choice to lose my business.
