Last Sunday I was eating lunch after church with my at the Cedar's restaurant at Chestnut and West By-pass in Springfield. I had my Glock 19 in my serpa. While we were waiting for our food I saw a guy I used to know and went over to say hi. As we were chatting I heard some of the little kids at the table next to us saying stuff like "Mommy that man has a gun" and "I think he's a cop." to which the mom told them something that sounded very accurate about bad guys and good guys. Couldn't hear exactly what she was saying since I was focused on my own conversation, but it sounded like the mom knew her facts. There were like 6 kids at the table.

Always good to see educated parents educating their kids.

Later that day I went to the new Arms Museum at Bass Pro (yes yes, I know it's an NRA thing but it was free so they didn't get a dime of my money). Very cool museum, I highly recommend a visit.

I've been open carrying frequently lately, mostly in Springfield, and some along the route to Joplin and in Joplin. Haven't had any issues, enjoying the comfort of OC. I've seen a couple other OC'ers too, one had a sweet 1911 with custom grips.

OC'd yesterday at Moto Mart in St. Charles. It was very busy in there, but no one looked strange at me. In fact as I walked out the guy in front of me asked if I was a cop or an OC'r. I informed him that I was not a cop, and that I was legally OC. He thought is was great. It was good to here.

St Charles is great, except for Forristel. I OC there alone with no problems, quite different then across the river in STL Co. Although Creve Coeur and our MODOT program gave us good PR there. I go over to St. Charles Co. very often, officers in the municipalities there never even look twice. Many OCers makes a big difference.........

Indeed there is safety and power in numbers - a unified front. It is the strength of a well forged chain, each link contributing.

Tractor Supply rocks. Only "local" place I can find parts for a 3-point hitch.

Well I have been CC for 3 years now, and I decided to start OCing now after starting to see others OCing and reading this thread.
First time today just to Walmart to grab a few things, no strange looks or anything good first OC.

I see you are from warrenton. I had heard that they had passed an ordinance against OC, but after a quick online code look up I can't find it. I have been OC for about three months now. I carry open everywhere I go in lincoln and st. charles county with no problems yet. It's great to here you are doing it also, I hope more will start.

Grizzly, I check with the sheriff's office while renewing my CC and they confirmed that OC is legal. Good to hear about no problems with St. Charles Co, As I am mostly in St. Charles Co and Warren Co.

There's a mantra here that says, "Never ask the police if something is legal/illegal." Usually, it concerns asking if something is legal to do. Open carry here or there, or while doing this or that. The answer is usually, "No, you can't do that."

I would recommend it also applies if they say it IS legal. Police may not have the latest update or all the correct information. Finding out for yourself by reviewing the actual laws as they are currently written is the only was to stay on the legal side.

Sorry if this sounds a bit crabby, but please don't depend on anyone else to tell you are/aren't breaking the law. Be safe, look it up, and you will know for certain.

And yes, it is still snowing here.

Ok who was it? I was in the Arnold walmart last night and as I am leaving some guy walks past me and is open carrying. I didn't get to talk to him and let him know it is illegal in Arnold.

Belton, MO Movie Theater

Last night, Thursday, March 6, went to see a movie in Belton, MO. People from our church were meeting up to see Son of God. Being a Thursday night, there were not many people at the theater. Only got some looks at my gun from a couple people from my church who had never seen me carrying before. No one commented. No trouble from theater employees. Taurus 38 TCP.

Planning to go to Belton St. Patrick's Day parade on Saturday, 3/15 with my Taurus Judge. May also go out to the KC parade on Monday 3/17. Hope to see others OC there.

Also, I live a block from an elementary school that is on the route to the nearest gas/convenience store. I do have a CCW permit, so when the weather better permits, I intend to begin OC when I walk to the station for a coca-cola, etc. I have not decided yet whether to carry ID, CCW permit, or nothing at all with me on my walk. I know that even in the GFSZ the police do not have authority to require name/ID from me unless there is reasonable suspicion I have or am about to commit a crime.

In Lenexa, Ks today visiting my daughter. Went to GoodYear on Stevenson, got to the door and saw the "sign". I needed to pick up my daughters car so I put my weapon in the car. After I finished my business I told the Manager I wish he was more 2nd Amendment friendly and he said it was the corporate owned stores. They have had 7 robberies and he was told to put up the sign. I said that will stop them, or if they are robbed the bad guy will leave his gun in his car.....unbelievable.

Went on to Nebraska Furniture Mart. Walked in the door, open carrying and exchanged hellos with the guard. About 15 minutes later two plain clothes guys come up and introduce themselves and tell me open carry is not allowed in side the store. I said there is no sign and I walked right by the guard and he didn't say a word. They said he is the one that called them. They asked to see my Concealed Carry Permit, I hesitated but my granddaughter was with me so I showed him. If she wasn't there I don't think I would have showed them. I pull out my shirt and everyone went on their way. I told them it would be nice if they put up a sign indicating no open carry.

Did I need to show them my Concealed Carry Permit?????

As far is MO is concerned, if you are OC you do not need to provide ID or CCW permit to anyone, including LEOs, unless they can articulate reasonable suspicion that you have committed a crime. If the "two plain clothes guys" are not LEOs, then there is absolutely no reason that you would need to show them a CC permit.

But Nebraska Furniture Mart is in KCK, over in Wyandotte County by the Speedway... So he was under Kansas Carry Laws at that point...

I hate to be that guy here. I can't force you, but I'd like to request that you refrain from OCing around anything controversial for a little while. At least until the end of August or so.

Reason being, with everything happening in the Legislature right now, any negative press about OC could severely damage 2A Bills in progress. Even if the activity in question is legal, some people don't care about that distinction.

I Echo this sentiment. PM me with any questions.

As Marc use to say, our opponents watch these boards for opportunity.

Amen!

I know it seems like such a little thing, and it is your constitutional right to exercise, but the way the media runs with stories without fact checking, law enforcement enforcing laws that don't exist, and others automatically making legal firearm owners into the villains in every scenario, until the right legislation is passed and written into the books, the slightest little hiccup can and will derail several years worth of effort by many people.

OC'd in 2 State Parks while mushroom hunting

There wasn't much interaction but I did OC in two state parks last weekend with no problems.
I carried in Engleman Woods State Park which is in Franklin County around St. Albans/Labadie.
Met an older man who swore he was looking for butterflies while I swore I wasn't hunting for Morel's (it was obvious both of us were hunting for the same thing thanks to mesh bags.) His only comment was, "nice holster". Neither of us found any Morel's.
The next day I OC'd while unloading and loading my kayak at Route 66 State Park in Eureka MO. Interacted with 4 other fisherman and no one said anything at all about the weapon. Paddled my way up the Meramec for about a mile and off into the woods I went hunting for Morel's....this time I walked out of the woods with 32 in my bag. Paddled back to the ramp where I ran into one guy loading a boat and he didn't say anything either.
It was a non-event (which I planned on being with other outdoor types) but it was nice to have it out comfortably while hiking and 'shrooming.
