Please cite a recent news story of a carjacking foiled by shooting through ones own car door, should be an interesting read.

Again with the reading comprehension...:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

what was typed ^^^^^^^^^^^ I gave 2 points why he should RE-CONSIDER shooting through the door, as a tactic.

If the attacker can't break the window he can't wrap his arms around your neck... So why would you need to shoot through the door again?

If you're carjacked... When the attacker opens up the door... Won't you have a giant hole to shoot through? Left by the, um, open door?

Keep jerking off to your adult male kill fantasies though. 'Cause that ain't creepy and never gets old.

I'm beginning to understand why a Special Ed teacher could potentially snap one day, and just go postal..

R E A D the scenario as the guy originaly posted it. Then take a deep breath, get another sippie-cup of whatever Mommy gives you to drink, and re-think the replies you've given.

What a stupid comment, I mean really? What is your problem.
I have had it with this BS forum, people attacking people for no damn good reason, personal attacks. Crist if you dont agree with someone GET THE F OVER IT. its called FREEDOM OF SPEECH! Its one of the rights we (I) fight for.

I see this forum as (mostly) a bunch of insecure childish brats. If you want people to take your "OC movement" serious... then you need to be a HELL of a lot more mature about it. I dont take this forum serious, and I am PRO GUN!

Im outta here.

Whatever.

I didn't know the OC movement was about a bunch of adult males fantasizing about shooting through car doors because shooting through the open window is too hard.

Laughable if it wasn't so sad.

And I'm glad you get your right to speech but I don't. I'll make a note of it.

Don't like what I have to say? Tough ****.

^that much is a given. as a child, you lack the intellect to do so.

There was no bravado, or fantasy in the guy's post. It was a valid consideration of a potential tactical situation any of us could find ourselves in, taking into account a possibility that he may not be able to get the gun up high enough to shoot through the window opening-due to obstructions like the steering wheel, and the BG's arms reaching in.

Those who fail to bother contemplating, and discussing such possibilities leave way too many things open to a visit from Murphy. Those who are so quick to criticize such considerations :

a) should'nt be carrying anything more lethal than a video game joystick
b) have never been in combat contact with anything not on a video game screen
c) usually end up being identified by thier next of kin at the County Medical Examiner's office, while we discuss their idiocy in here.

Entirely too true. Even though I'll be the 1st to admit having zero tolerance for idiots, and abusing them at every oppty myself-but almost always in response to an attack and/or to call out a myth being perpetuated in these pages.
In the case of these childish trolls, though, who go out of their way to attack almost every other post on these pages- (just click their usernames, and choose read posts, and you'll see exactly what I mean, if u havent already), they actually just play into the words, deeds and fears of those who work so hard to deny us our rights in many states.

With morons like these yapping in here-all out of proportion to their (almost total lack of) knowledge or experience,it should'nt surprise anyone of us why so many folks are nervous about guns, and gun-owners.

Most carry calibers of handgun rounds will go through a car door with enough force to injure or kill someone on the other side.

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/buickot3.htm

Is it a preferred shot? Absolutely not. Is it likely to work? It very well could.

From my own experience with neighborhood punks with BB guns, car doors are for decoration and to keep the rain out. A friggin BB gun. Gonna type it slowly again B . B . G . U. N., penetrated my car door (at least the outer metal skin).

In the event the window is already broken and perp standing there, getting a pistol up near my face and in the perps reach may not be advisable. In which case, a shot through the door into his legs / crotch area may be my best option. The shooter may be burned, and deaf afterwards but that's no worse than accidentally shooting my own left arm or losing the gun to the perp.

Really though, lock your damn doors when you drive. That'll buy time and force them to break a window. (And, in WI, now counts as forcible entry for the new "castle doctrine" law so you'll be civilly immune.) Stay out of riot zones where the first attack will be done with a brick.

Some good points in there, ^^ to which I'll add. Get in the habit, when possible, of having some space in front of your car-room to manuever/turn etc. If such a thing happens, it may be better to floor-it, and get out of the immediate area. 1500 lbs of car beats 100-300 or so ft. lbs of muzzle-energy any day of the week.

I agree, I always keep enough room between my vehicle and the vehicle in front of me to maneuver out of a dangerous situation. I have taught all my kids the same driving techniques. Most vehicles in the U.S. weigh 2400 lbs and much more but I get the point.

Anyway here is a link to a video and the photos of a police vehicle filled with bullet holes in Texas..Nov 2004 IIRC. Many of the bullets penetrated through the windshield and the interior of the police car. http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=11086

I don't know what caliber but I think this was a 9mm. This was one VERY LUCKY police officer. Listen to what he shouts at the end of the video. I would have yelled at least that!

Impacts look somewhat large for 9mm..not to mention how many impacts there are..either a shooter had plenty of time to reload at least once, or there were 2 shooters? (cant get the link from work's comp/network). and just because the round penetrated the outer sheetmetal, doesnt mean it continued much, if any, further.

I witnessed an attemped car-jacking a few months back, that failed miserably.Driver simply drove off, leaving the wannabe-gangsta behind. Frustrated the wannabe opened up on the tailgate of the intended victim's truck (Ram 1500), with a Glock 19 -emptied the thing into that tailgate. Wannabe was apprhended almost immediately (after pistol emptied) by cops who arrived. "victim" stopped his truck at the next block. I drove past, looked over the tailgate. Not one, single 9mm penetrated a damned thing-not even one of the tailights- that merely cracked.

The bullets in the photos definitely penetrated the police cruiser and through most of the interior. Can you see the photos attached in the post? There are wooden dowels placed in the bullet holes showing the paths of the bullets. There are five photos total but could only upload four. Go to the link and look at the photos on the snopes website. I would bet that the caliber is 9mm from watching the video. They fired from the tailgate of the pickup truck. I can't tell how many are firing but it could be more than one. I don't know of any sub machine gun that shoots a penetrating round like the 9mm except one and that is the 7.62X25 mm Tokarev cartridge....which I highly doubt these bad guys had. Look closely at the photos of the vehicle and you will notice that both tires on the drivers side are flat. The bullet(s) penetrated the left front lower section of the police cruiser and punctured the drivers side front tire. I can't tell how the back left tire was flattened but I am assuming it was from bullet(s).

AHA! Turns out the snopes thing is slightly off...well more than slightly! The video IS from the bank robbers but the five photos are NOT. The photos are actually of a different police district in TEXAS where the officer was fired on during a routine traffic stop by....wait for it...

AN AK-47! The article states the bad guy used both a 9mm handgun and an AK-47 firing on the police officer....

"AN AK-47"

Bout what I figured. Too high a round count, and too large a hole, -barring AP rounds -from more than one shooter to be a 9mm..

Really? Never said anything about it never happening. Just pointing out the complete lack of logic in your personal fantasy world. The bad guy is the target. Yet you can't shoot because the target is blocking the target. I mean you are such a killer so how did the bad guy get within a 1,000 feet of your car? You are so well trained you surely saw him coming miles away.

Congrats. Best Internet Mall Ninja of 2011.

More hot air and yet you have not addressed one flaw in you fantasy rampage of death. The only thing getting shot around here is your foot. By you. Nice shooting.

Just drive away.

And as far as the "OC movement"... This Wisco forum is read by WJS in the very least. We know this for fact. So all you Mall Ninjas (j4l) do absolutely nothing for the cause by posting you fantasies here. It's all going to be used against OC. And against you if you find yourselves on the wrong side of Philanderin' Flynn's Troops.

But by all means continue.

What fantasy, beyond your own hopes of someday handling a firearm that isnt pixels on a video-game screen, do you speak of. I advised the shooter AGAINST his strategy of shooting through the door, genius. (instead of seizing on to the one or two words you can actually pronounce, try digesting the entire sentences)
Even though his efforts of thinking-through the possible scenario is entirely valid.

Does anyone have any evidence that supports claims of people going down in court for using a "larger" caliber weapon?

I think, if anything, it's the opposite. That an uninformed jury would come down harder on someone who shot someone more times with a smaller caliber.
"Why did you shoot your attacker four times instead of only once or twice?"
"Because I had a .380 and not a .44. Duh."

Uninformed people I think will look more at the number of times fired vs. the damage done. Remember, lots of people think a .22 is a great defensive weapon just because it's a gun, and everyone knows shooting someone with a gun knocks them flying into the air five feet.

I don't feel undergunned with a 9mm and good rounds. Plus, it holds more, is generally easier to shoot, costs less....

This is more about in the home than carrying, but what I scratch my head about a bit is when pump shotguns are recommended so often while at the same time so many people recommend not having a safety on a gun.
Safety switch to operate = bad.
Pump a huge slide between Every Shot = good, I guess.

Also, I shot a .357 one time outside without hearing protection. My ears were on fire for 10+ minutes. I have no plans on doing that again, and I wouldn't want to shoot one indoors if I can avoid it.

Yet another thread that proves OCers are the bottom of the barrel among gun owners...
