Tourist going to Las Vegas at MGM Grand

Oh joy...Nevada has decided that Utah permits are no longer valid.

Now I have the option to OC in Las Vegas. I'll be staying at the MGM Grand. So, just a few questions...since a quick check of the last two pages in the NV state forum included several scary threads.

1) MGM Grand: OC or no OC? How do casinos handle OC?

2) I want to go to Ka (or some other show). Will OC be a problem? What about MGM Grand's arena?

3) Las Vegas Strip: will the cops give me problems? Or, have you guys slapped them around a bit and they now understand the law?

4) Lawyer: I'd like to get the name and contact of a good SD lawyer in case of OC problems or an "event". Who do you recommend? I will call them prior to my trip and introduce myself.

5) What other SNAFUs can I expect in Las Vegas with OC?

6) OC on a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon: go or no go?

7) Is a registration card required in Las Vegas for out-of-towners OCing? If so, how do I go about getting one? My carry gun is already registered to me, so I don't care if NV knows about it.

8) It is not clear to me whether or not NV issues non-resident CCW permits. I read a few web pages, but I didn't see "non-resident" specifically mentioned. While I think NV is just jacking me up for a $100 permit, I'd rather CCW if at all possible.

There have been a few officers giving trouble, but I doubt you will be hassled much (if at all) by the officers around there now. The casino security does not like firearms on thier property and will ask you to put it away. If you don't comply, they will probably trespass you from most likely all MGM properties, which is half the Strip. You don't need it registered, since you live out of state. As for any other private businesses, they have the right to say no to OC and refuse you service, but it can't hurt to call ahead.

Lots of discussion about this, don't OC on the strip unless you are a cop or look like one

Hotels generally do not allow open carry, and its their right to ask you to leave if you do.

You wont get a Permit in time to carry in the next 60 days.

My permit took 34 days, but you need to come here and spend several days to complete the trainig/application process.

You can get a non-resident permit in Las Vegas. But, you will need to register your carry guns (with LVMPD) and qualify with them (actual shooting with the instructor). In addition to the large fees for the class and permit, you will sit for at least an hour at the fingerprint building. I think you could apply for a Nevada permit in Clark County after spending about 1 1/2 days of your time. At least non-resident permits are now good for 5 years (it used to be 3).

I would recommend you take one of these to Vegas: http://www.taser.com/PRODUCTS/CONSUMERS/Pages/C2.aspx Either that or visit somewhere else instead.

Also... Avoid Fremont Street (east of the strip), Lake Mead Blvd, and if possible North Las Vegas.

There are a lot more places to avoid than those. Any non major street around the Strip area is generally not the safest place to be.

It seems to me That cREBralFIX is unhappy about Nevada not honoring his Utah CCW. and he asked us locals for valid information so he can express his displeasure while he visits our city. While within his tolerances. Pace, you do understand that this is a PROopen carry forum I hope. I seriously looked @ the address on my browser to ensure that I was not logged into the Brady campaign, while reading your post.givin your latest advice, I would expect you to have advised Rosa Parks. to "not sit in the front of the bus unless you look like, or are a white person"... It is my opinion that unless all you want is an argument from each member on this site... that you might be better suited on another one . however if you choose to remain, please refrain from dishing the same off the cuff BAD ADVICE that keeps more informed members arguing with you, and misleades the less informed. cREBralFIX you PM me brother, I for one will OC with you. and Pace that invite extends to you as well (not arguing... but OCing)

I think Pace was just trying to come up with a work around until the NV gun folks can bitchslap their state representatives. Unfortunately, these things are slow, so I don't expect much in the next year.

I'm certainly not going to encourage these bureaucrats by purchasing a NV permit.

As for OC on "the strip": it's clear from these posts (and posts on other forums) that the Las Vegas administration has decided that OC is to be discouraged. Since I have a tendency to "get off the X" when guns are pointed at me, it's probably not advisable to push LVPD with OC on the strip. I'm fairly certain they'd do something stupid to a non-compliant OC'er. The legality of LVPD's actions at that time won't matter since bullets don't come back. I'm fully confident I'd get at least one of the jack booted thugs, but then the entire department would come down on me like a ton of bricks.

So the choices are:

1) Open carry AWAY from The Strip and lock the gun up.
2) Carry concealed regardless of the law
3) Go unarmed
4) Don't go


#1: I'd be more worried about theft from the hotel room

#2 means "Big Boy" rules. Sometimes I'd consider it, but not on The Strip for obvious reasons.

#3 is probably the choice I'll have to make. No refunds and all that...not to mention family members are involved.

#4 is not really an option, as much as I'd like it to be.


I am going to be so pissed if I get robbed.


I would also be interested in OCing on the strip if a group of like 50 Nevadans decided to "take a nice walk" from one end to the other.
