To be fair to certain LEO's this action MAY be done in ignorance and by not understanding the delicate intricacies of firearms possession / transports laws. Unfortunately, their ARE others who I refer to as Opinion Enforcement Officers (OEO) who just take delight in making ones life difficult and miserable JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN in spite of the actual Law and Constitution!

And when you are just answering the question without exercising YOUR Constitutional Rights and protections, you have NO WAY to tell whether you are dealing with a LEO or an OEO!
Very well said

i did note in this thread the issue of the guy's private email being used and the redaction of the email ID name.

This is inappropriate for redaction IMO. In fact, in my state, there was a similar case, FIC Case 2005-407 that stated:

34. It is found, however, that the respondent himself opened his home
computer to potential public scrutiny by using it to conduct official
business. _See_ Docket #FIC 2004-323, _Mark O. Weeks v. First
Selectman, Town of Canterbury_.

http://www.state.ct.us/foi/2006FD/20060614/FIC2005-407.htm and the referenced other case:
http://www.state.ct.us/foi/2005FD/20050713/FIC2004-323.htm

And email addresses are useful in authenticating the record, although not definitive...Jimena, supra,2011 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 68560, at *15-16 (E.D.Cal. June 24, 2011)

So cops want to use their cell phones on the job (they do this to avoid public broadcasts), use private emails?

Then all this is fair game under our common law and open records laws. The cop's email address was improperly redacted IMO.

What would I do? Re-request the records. Object to redactions, ask for all emails from the redacted acct.

Here is a reply from one of my state senators when I requested records from her personal acct she also uses for state business:

This is my personal email. Please use my legislative address. Beth.bye@cga.ct.gov.
Beth

Beth Bye
in response to:

11 FEB 14

Dear Senator Bye,

Seeking to inspect all emails sent or received by Sen. BYE or others to/from the email address of : bethbyehome@gmail.com

for the time period of 1 DEC 13 through 11 FEB 14

This is a new FOIA request ... I filed it a) here b) via telephone message to aid Kyle c) via online contact on CGA website

email is defined for the purposes of this request to be emails, any attachments to emails, and other information relayed by any email.

Sincerely,

I got a few dozen emails that she sent out through her personal acct....they are public records...

************************ on a humorous note
I discovered a few hotmail accounts of public officials during the time period when hotmail was switching over to outlook .........
I snagged a few outlook accounts of their hotmail IDs before the public officials transferred their accounts to outlook. So they lost all their emails, contacts etc. Only did this with antis of course. Then after the transition period, I sent them an email from the "stolen" accounts asking them if they wanted to buy the accounts back - for one million dollars hahahaha!

Leos will do what they want. As long as you bow down to their demands you will be fine when you don't that when the trouble starts.

LEO's do not "do what they want with me" .. I make it perfectly clear that they have rules and I have rules ... I am governed by my rules and that they can be 100% right and still be wrong.

The basic law in my state is that you cannot resist an unlawful act by a cop....its BS of course; if I feel in danger, I will react. If I see a cop beating someone to death I will intervene.

Have you ever won a argument with even just one leo? Much less ten on the side of the road or anywhere? Some leos have a us vs them attitude and they run in packs. A Leo like that will do whatever they want with you and don't care at all what you think.

Do you have any audio or video of any interaction you have had with the police where you have 'made it perfectly clear' to them?

Don't feed the trolls. Just leave them alone and let them crawl under the bridge.

It was a loaded question.... I knew he wasn't going to answer. :p

He talks a lot, and makes a lot of claims... that he did this, said that, etc.... but goes silent every time he is asked for audio/video of that encounter. Its predictable.

Crickets at midnight make a louder sound than his responses to requests for validation...

Sounds like someone with an Alexandria address, alright. :p

In Clifton in summer, one has to raise his voice to talk over the din of tree frogs and katydids and whatnot at midnight, and I can still hear the crickets.

"Do you have a gun in the car?"
Of course, it's all up to you, but my preferred choice is "Yeah, lots! They're really cool! Wanna see!?"

I've never gotten a ticket with that one, which usually involves me and about 6 cops passing my RFB and AK pistol around...

Of course, not all cops are decent. I think I've covered my opinion on that one elsewhere.

I wonder how it would have gone on this one... I know what a horrible thing it is to deal with, but I've dealt with it enough it's almost fun for me...
