Question regarding drinking and open carry

I suppose the concern is that one will "snap" after taking a sip of beer while at a restaurant. In that case, no one should ever visit such an establishment due to the general danger of being around other people doing the same thing with a wide array of improvised weapons within reach. Or maybe the public just needs to see responsible behavior being demonstrated.

Perhaps more correctly, the antis are concerned that a LAC will, just like the anti, snap or otherwise become unhinged after imbibing.

Somewhere I once read a study that compared gun control/gun rights attitudes with convictions for DUI. (Actually the study was about the attitudes of those convicted of DUI towards other criminal behavior. "DUI is bad, m'kay? But GUNZ is worser."

Different strokes for different folks.

Just keep in mind nobody needs to be telling anybody else what they should or should not do. We'll keep the conversation focused on why we do or do not.

And since it's a thread in the Virginia forum we need to keep in mind the legal aspects of what happens here as opposed to anywhere else.

stay safe.

A gentlemen quite senior to me once said...never trust a man that doesn't drink. But I also had a grandfather once tell me to never get married, "it wasn't worth it".

Good points. No inclination of telling others what to do intended.

Yet in this modern age travel is fairly cheap and the world is shrinking.

Wouldn't want a Virginian to freak out visiting the NW and seeing armed people have a beer.

Also it appears not to be illegal to do so OC in Virginia either. So a NW visitor there could still enjoy his normal routine.

Correctomundo. So far as it goes.

There is no specific statute prohibiting it, such as there is regarding consuming alcoholic beverage while lawfully carrying concealed.

But as previously remarked, there are dangers - perhaps not great dangers but they do exist. It is for each of us to consider the risks and benefits and to act according to our own analysis. Caveat emptor.

Should you get out this way I would be happy to meet up with you in a setting where you could/would enjoy your normal routine. I hope that you will allow me to do the same.

stay safe.

+1 Of course would love to. I am not in the habit of not allowing others theirs.

Its why I like threads like these we learn, learn where things may be problematic and then make our own judgment and choices for ourselves.

Alcohol (bad), guns (bad), automobiles (compound the "badness"

Alcohol and guns/driving should never (?) be mixed.

Never? That is harsh.

How about holding and using 6" serrated knives while drinking?

How about having your car keys in your possession while drinking?
I have a cousin in England who walked out of a pub, on his way to his car and was arrested for "intent to drive while intoxicated". There is a precedent altho we a lucky it has not gotten here yet.

Beer is part of our Northwest culture, and part of normalizing OC for some of us is maybe having a beer with a meal.
Perception and social mores.

You now have a standing invitation for lunch and a beer (while armed) here in Bellingham, the City of Subdued Excitement. Sponsored by Washington Open Carry, Whatcom County Chapter.

They do indeed make some tasty brews!

The gods of beer have done us some favors in letting some anarchy back into the brewing business......hehehehe....talk of dieties and liberty do seem offensive to some.

People who are drinking cannot exercise their first amendment rights too? How about 4th? 5th? 8th?

Tell me ! How many rights do you relinquish from having a cool refreshing Pabst Blue Ribbon beer?

Saw a couple of stout pics .... to those newbies of stout drinking .... you can mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with chamaigna or lager (I prefer champaigna ... cause I'm sofisticated).

Most # of pints of stout drunk in 1 hr: seven
(not via a contest, just regular glug glug) believe me 7 is plenty for a night.
