Then we should remove all pics of the long guns and should not have even discussed long gun behavior at the rally on THIS forum anyway!

http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/misc.php?do=showrules

You know, there is a whole entire concealed carry only crowd out there that says exactly the same thing about us who open carry, regardless of what or how we open carry. They claim we are cowboys and "in your face", etc. They say we are going to hurt the cause because we display our guns rather than hide them away. Their are going to be some of those concealed carry only crowd that would say a 2A Rally like this one will hurt the cause. How do we feel about that? And yet when someone crosses our PERSONAL line of comfort, we turn around and say the same things about those on the other side of OUR personal line of comfort, "Hey! Don't do that! That's bad!"

The fact is, the guys in the long gun photo in question were doing nothing illegal. Shouldn't we just leave it at that, really?

Although I primarily CC I fully support open carry. I also believe that the folks with the long guns were doing nothing even remotely provocative.

Sometimes it's what one doesn't see that is the problem. Is it possible that Goose has been receiving some PM's that have offended him to the point that he doesn't want anything more to do with the "group".

Only Goose can tell us, if he wants to, what the real reason for the "chafe" is.

I certainly am aware that PM's exist and may be the issue.

If one was to search back for the last year, it would show there have been several who have lef the forum. Some with no reason stated, some who were chased. ie: 69charger, devildoc to name a couple. Is it possible that we get a bit too strong or defensive at times?

Yes we are passionate, and I know that Goose is too.

PM's almost made me leave, but I decided why let one windbag ruin it for me. It's a cause I strongly believe in and live it everyday.

I also made a public announcement that any derogatory or personal attacks in PM will be made public. Haven't received one since.

Not only did I take your advice but when a former member sent a derogatory comment via PM, I did post it in the forum. And I will do so again.

Two things come to mind:

1. How is it that none of these guns killed anyone? With all those guns on the loose there should have been at least one casualty.

2. I personally do not understand the OC of long guns at the rally, and I certainly don't see how that helps our cause. Maybe I'm naive, but I'm not afraid to say I was honestly shocked when I saw the pictures. I'm not being sarcastic or argumentative here..but I have to ask why were they OC'd? Please leave out the "because it's our right" part. Just because we can do something does not mean we should do it.

Because you obviously missed out on the theme of the rally.

I do hope you are being sarcastic.

Because, again, this wasn't an Open Carry ralley, it was a Second Amendment ralley. Just because it was mostly Open Carry Washington people who organized it doesn't mean it's an exclusively OC ralley.

Sorry, but I'm going to speak up a little.
A bunch are speak negative about long guns being there and I might get some negative remarks. Look at the constitution and the 2nd amendment, it wasn't about OC was it? Long guns were part of protecting ourselves weren't they? Whether it's handguns, shotguns, or rifles I think it's part of the 2nd ammendment! The founding fathers set us up and we're not going to let todays society take it from us. Isn't this one reason we stick together in this? One day a year we show more than our handguns.

I think you'll see where I'm going.

I OCed my AK not just because it is my right under the Second Amendment of the US constitution but because of what the root purpose of that amendment was about. It wasn't put in there to protect sport shooting or hunting but so that we the people could protect ourselves; not just from criminals but from a tyrannical government. I chose not a hunting rifle or shotgun because for me the Second Amendment isn't about those things. I chose a battle rifle because if/when the day comes where I have to protect my family or neighborhood from a corrupt government I'm not going to use a low capacity hunting or sporting arm, I'm going to use one of my battle rifles.

I carried it in the spirit of my ancestors who have fought in every war this country has had, all the way back to the first one that created this country. We the people are the true Militia and the only armed body of people this nation is supposed to have. I take my role as a citizen of this country seriously. So I chose to represent that role with my AK. While I did have several loaded magazines stashed on my person, I did carry with the firearm empty and the bolt open.

I do not normally openly carry a long gun around town.

I carried a rifle because it fit the theme of the rally and I expected others to do so as well. That's the only time, besides a hiking trip that put me a good distance away from society, that I've carried a rifle. I wouldn't do so in everyday life, it's just impractical for self defense. But for the 2A rally (rather than just an OCDO rally), it fit the theme and I did it to show my support and appreciation of the 2nd amendment. Sirpuma pretty much covered it.

Second Amendment:
The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Article 1, Section 24:
The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired

Nowhere in EITHER of those two quotes does is say the type, caliber, color or magazine capacity of the arms. Neither did they say anything about OC or CC, retention holsters, shoulder holsters, hip holsters, IWB, OWB. This was a rally about the freedom of arms that each and everyone of you enjoy here in Washington and this great country. Had I not been running the audio for the event I would have been wearing my SKS-m or maybe my Shikari 45/70.

Deros & Squeak, I thank you for all the hard work you put into getting this thing ready. It was a hell of a rally and I look forward to next year when my cannon arrives so we can do salutes through the day (or will some of you have an issue with a cannon?)

Please leave out the "because it's our right" part. Just because we can do something does not mean we should do it.

Why would I leave out the most important argument for it?

The reason guns are perceived the way they are by many is because many had that exact same attitude. Why OC when you can CC? I tell people all the time who ask me why I carry I say " Because I can". That is the most important reason in my mind, they need not know anything more than that.
