Still Nothing After 63 Days....

I mailed in my app on Nov 20. Check cleared my bank on Nov 30. It is now Jan 3, still waiting, but haven't checked mail yet today.

Don't feel too bad. Mailed mine on the 1st of November, check posted on the 10th of November...nothing at all from the D.O.J. Mailed letter of inquiry on 23DEC. Haven't heard a thing.

Wife mailed hers on 17th of November, check posted on the 25th of November....nothing.

I've heard that the D.O.J. is no longer processing any applications from November but are instead working on those received on or after 2DEC. Some on this forum have posted receiving their licenses after mailing in their applications on 2DEC or later. Looks like those in November are on hold for....how long?

There also seems to be no recourse except maybe a mailed letter to find out the status of the application since the D.O.J. will not give the status of applications on the phone. Why have a phone contact number if they can't do anything for the person inquiring?

Don't we all love our government employees? I know I do!

Yes, 45 days. However, there is no penalty for them going over.

I presume no "temporary" permit as in VA - that needs to be fixed.

§ 18.2-308 (D)
If the court has not issued the permit or determined that the applicant is disqualified within 45 days of the date of receipt noted on the application, the clerk shall certify on the application that the 45-day period has expired, and mail or send via electronic mail a copy of the certified application to the applicant within five business days of the expiration of the 45-day period. The certified application shall serve as a de facto permit, which shall expire 90 days after issuance, and shall be recognized as a valid concealed handgun permit when presented with a valid government-issued photo identification pursuant to subsection H, until the court issues a five-year permit or finds the applicant to be disqualified.

How long will it take to get a CCW license after I submit an application?
For completed applications received between November 1 and December 1, 2011, DOJ shall issue or deny as soon as practicable and no longer than 45 days after receiving an application. Wis. Act 35, § 100(2).
After December 1, 2011, DOJ must either issue a license or deny the license application within 21 days of receiving the completed application. Wis. Stat. § 175.60(9)(b).

There are provisions for 30 day emergency concealed carry licenses.

(9r) EMERGENCY LICENSE. (a) An individual who requires an
immediate license may petition the court in the county in which
he or she resides for such a license. Unless the court knows that
the individual is ineligible for a license under sub. (3), a court may
issue an emergency license to an individual if the court determines
that immediate licensure is warranted to protect the individual
from death or great bodily harm, as defined in s. 939.22 (14).
(b) An emergency license issued under this subsection is valid
for 30 days unless it is revoked under par. (bm) or it is void under
par. (c).
(bm) If the court determines that a holder of an emergency
license issued under par. (a) is ineligible under sub. (3) for a
license, the court shall revoke the emergency license.
(c) If the holder of an emergency license issued under par. (a)
applies for a license under sub. (7) and is determined to be ineligible
under sub. (3) for a license, the emergency license is void.
NOTE: Sub. (9r) is created eff. 11−1−11 by 2011 Wis. Act 35.

Still do not see anything in place that forces the issue of compliance. This all came up when I read that a certain group (by date) were not being processed in a timely fashion, but that later received ones were. An automatic temporary permit (as described in my previous post) would offer some relief. IMO, appears that they are taking liberties not allowed.

Re (9r) EMERGENCY LICENSE: "May issue" - that is not good. Would have been better to have said "shall issue", but there is still that "if the court determines that immediate licensure is warranted" so this doesn't really solve the problem. The court presumes to determine what I cannot do - predict need, rather than allow for the ability to do so when it becomes a now issue.

I realize that much improvement has been made - there is still room for more. Good luck. :D

That is correct.

When I complained to legislators, only one aide responded from the ex-sheriff legislator's office, and that to grant the Department of Justice, the Attorney General and the entire legislature "sovereign immunity." I will not vote for Bies the Repugnican.

Maybe some could construct a Wisconsin CC clock, thermometer or similar.

Anyone on board with graphic talents?

They had no record of my application but I did have proof I paid for it. To their credit after resubmitting my application paperwork VIA email on the 4th it didn't take long to get it.

Probably issued CCL #52,97x on Jan. 12, 2012. Makes for about 5,200 per week average since Nov. 1, 2011, with the processing rate ramping up, due to additional workers, improved procedures, reduced requirements. They will continue to be able to process applications faster than they come in.

The information I have indicates that currently the Wisconsin DOJ has around 15,000 or so applications that are not completely processed. That is a backlog of 2 to 3 weeks, which is also within the statutory 21 day turnaround, that is now in effect.

Congratulations! Finally! What was the date of issue, if you don't mind my asking?
