The Empress and I took her parents out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse this evening. We were seated at a table. At the table behind me were two women (somewhere in the vicinity of my age - somewhat mature). As we were looking over the menu, the woman sitting right behind me said, "Pardon me. Is it legal to carry a gun like that?" Before I could answer, she said, " It must be legal. You walk into a crowded restaurant, sit down, and nobody says anything. We are not used to seeing that. We are from New Jersey." I said, " You don't have to say any more, I am originally from New York." She said, "Do you like it down here better than New York?" I replied, "Yes. I would never go back to live." She asked, "Where in New York?" I replied, "Queens." She said, "Oh, say no more. We have no problem with guns. I have a lot of family and friends in law enforcement." We had a little discussion on Virginia carry laws. I gave her a VCDL Carry Card. Their dinner arrived and our appetizers arrived. She thanked me for the info. We all got back to the business at hand, eating.

The way it is supposed to be - a very pleasant experience for all.

Went to the gun show at the Fredericksburg Expo center today and then met my wife at Wegman's for lunch and groceries. While I was walking down an aisle, I noticed a unicorn waiting to checkout. He was wearing a six-shooter in a cowboy holster slung low on his leg with a gun belt full of bullets. I got a kick out of seeing this "old-timey" looking rig he was wearing and thought "good for him".

With the intermittent periods of warm weather the last few weeks allowing OC, have been to Giant, Wegman's, CVS, Home Depot (Harrison Crossing), Renato's, Firebird's, Vinny's (Leavells Rd), NSWC FCU, Total Wine and Beverage, ABC Store (Eagle Village - no sign, nothing said).

No Guns signs coming to ABC stores near you at the direction of Gov McAwful's executive order #50. They are already popping up around the state - also seen in state Health Dept offices and even expected at highway Rest Stops.

But if I am traveling along Va's interstates and decide to stop for a rest, I can have the weapon in the car just not OC into the rest area restrooms or vending rooms. What about CC is that prohibited also.

We are waiting to see the official signs, but it appears it will be a total ban (OC and CC) including on the grounds/parking lot.

Need to use the restroom?

Worse comes to worse - pick a friendly tree or stand behind your open passanger door on the shoulder of the road. :uhoh:

If this new EO turns out to actually ban legal carriers from driving onto the property of Virginia Rest Stops, that is a HUGE PR blunder. All but the most brainwashed gun-haters will surely see how ridiculous that would be.

That exact thing happened in Alabama.

The governor did step in and correct the issue, though he was obviously not kin to McAwful.

Recently relocated to Lynchburg/Forest area. Not my domicile and not home yet but here I am for the next few months. Anyway, when I go outside its necessary I wear pants and anytime I have pants on I have a sidearm on my belt.

So about any place I have been in the past 6 weeks it was exposed and no one ever took issue. Was having Monkey Joe's Ice Cream for dinner last night and a guy drove by in the parking lot and hollered out the window-- Open Carry, I do it too!

Was getting a board at Lowes early afternoon on Saturday and in the check out line. In a shopping cart ahead of me was a 5 or so year old boy that asked me if that was a gun. Told him yes and he wanted to see it more. I turned so he could see it on my side Dad was with him and he had no issue at us talking. We discussed it and why and he said he wanted to shoot one sometime. I told him (and dad) about the Izaak Walton range 10 miles north and if he went up there about any Saturday morning there would be members there would would be more than willing to let them both shoot something if they asked about guns and shooting.

They were both very impressed with that idea. I like to think I done good with that kid and dad.

Great story!

But, they require a fella to wear pants down there? Sheesh! Tough crowd. :)

I don't know about "them" or "they" out there around here. I just know SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) aka Wife requires it so . . ..

Although I do have a good chunk of Irish/Scottish blood back in the family tree so I could probably get by with a Kilt. My personal pride would prevent a skirt tho.

Actually, Nemo, it's She Who Must Be Obeyed. Otherwise, it's She Who Must Be Appeased.
