The Empress wanted a new shower head. Off we went to Home Depot at Harrison Crossing. She found one she liked and we went to the checkout. All they had open were the self-checkouts. There was a young lady stationed there to help out. As I was checking out, I heard the checkout lady say something to my wife. My wife replied "He always open carries." They continued their conversation, I could hear the checkout lady asking about legality, permits, etc.. When I had finished checking out, I joined in. My wife and I answered her questions. I gave her a VCDL Carry Card and pointed out the web address. I also told her about the OCDO website.
We took our purchase back to the car. We were in the car and getting ready to pull out when a gentleman, with some Home Depot stuff in his arms, came by the car window and gestured he wanted to talk. I rolled the window down and he asked about my hat (any particular reason for wearing it, etc.) I explained why I wear it. He then said he also noticed I was OCing. He thanked me for exercising my 2nd amendment right. Wife and I thanked him for his support. Everybody went on their way.

Did you give a home to a free pet on Saturday (yesterday)? Local shelters were participating in free/give away program - one day only.

No. I am allergic to dogs and cats. The Empress wanted to inquire about volunteering there. I sat in the lobby while she toured the facility. She brought home an application. I took some Benadryl due to puffy, watery eyes and fits of sneezing.

My business took me to Spotsylvania Courthouse this afternoon. No problems, and was overjoyed to see that Chewning's Store was sill there and hardly changed from when I was last there in 1984.

Drove towards downtown F'burg to see if Paul' Bakery was still there and open. No joy on being open, but they are still there. Went on in to downtown and hauled out the mobility scooter to do some sidewalk sightseeing. Folks barely noticed the scooter (I need to get one of those canned air horns) and I doubt if anybody noticed I was OCing.

Since I could not ruin the diet (the one my doctor wants me on, not the one I am on) at Paul's Bakery I swung by Carl's before heading home. Chocolate malt - yum!

Sometimes boring is good.

stay safe.

Thanks for visiting! Indeed Paul's is closed on Mondays. Interestingly, today was the first day of business for the Fredericksburg expansion of Richmond-based Sugar Shack (801 William Street). I stopped in this morning but did not have the 30 minutes it would have taken to pull the line.

Carl's is Carl's, there is really no substitute, especially for occasional visitors, but it's a little pricey. For my frequent milkshake fix, I've found the "small" at Chick-Fil-A, which comes in at $2.99 including tax, is a worthy contender.

No offense TFred, but nothing, literally nothing, is even close to being a worthy contender of Carl's.

Well, Duh!

Any comparison to Carl's is impossible. Mostly because the product at Carl's is truly unique - it's not ice cream, it's not custard, it's not fro-yo.

Wait a minnit! Went to fact-check myself and found that the Commonwealth of Virginia has meddled with the definitions.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl's_Ice_Cream

[quote[The difference between ice cream and frozen custard is frozen custard contains eggs, so it's a thicker heavier cream. Carl's has always had eggs in the mix, but 15 years ago Virginia State Law said there was not enough eggs to legally call it Frozen Custard. (This egg content would have made it pudding!)

Since VA law has modified the egg content to be able to officially call it Frozen Custard again! All signs at Carl's now reflect the law change, and now say Frozen Custard.[/quote]

And here I have been laboring under the impression that "custard" had both a lower and upper limit on the amount/percentage of egg/egg product.

http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/cfrsearch.cfm?fr=135.110

Frozen custard shall contain 1.4 percent egg yolk solids by weight of the finished food: Provided, however, That when bulky flavors are added the egg yolk solids content of frozen custard may be reduced in proportion to the amount by weight of the bulky flavors added, but in no case is the content of egg yolk solids in the finished food less than 1.12 percent. A product containing egg yolk solids in excess of 1.4 percent, the maximum set forth in this paragraph for ice cream, may be marketed if labeled as specified by paragraph (e)(1) of this section.

Except there is no (e) (1); only (e).

Technically this isn’t frozen custard because it doesn’t have the minimum amount of eggs in it to be called custard, so they call it ice cream.

First of all (see the pictures, they call it "Ice Creme."

Second, It can't be ice cream because it does contain eggs. But the bastages in Virginia have decided that the FDA does not know what they are talking about -at least when it comes to ice cream or custard.

And just to keep this firearm/OC related, this whole thing is like explaining why the Federal .327 performs just like from the .357 Magnum. :p

stay safe.
