I just wanted to know if there are any open carriers in the Colorado springs area? cause Ive never seen any. and if so have you ran into any issues with the public or police in this area ?
I OCed in CS and Manitou yesterday. I carry an old 1911 in a drop leg holster. I have been OCing for almost a year. Not every day, but as the mood strikes me. With the well worn leather jacket, and 4 day old beard it wasn't likely that anyone would mistake me for LE.
First of all, I have NEVER had any problem with CSPD, or any other LE while OCing. I rarely get any response from anyone, but yesterday was an active day.
I was standing by my motorcycle outside of Chick-Fila (how ever you spell that,) Smoking a cig, and finishing up my tasty beverage, when a man pulled up next to me and caught my attention with "Sir!" He than said "I just want you to know that I appreciate you open carrying." I said thank you and walked over and shook his hand.
I was walking a busy sidewalk in Manitou when a man stopped, smiled, and said "That's a fine sight, Sir." I just smiled, shook his hand and moved on.
On the way home, I stopped by a liquor store for some late afternoon beer. As always nothing but smiles and pleasantries from the staff.
As I was leaving, some kid that looked to be about 7 years old that appeared to be with his grandparents Shouted "Hey, that guy's got a gun!" I turned around, and he said it again, while grandpa twisted his ear to get him to shut up. There wasn't any fear in the kid's voice, just surprise. I put on the biggest friendliest smile that I could and said "That's horrible." The still smiling, I said "So what's wrong with carrying a gun?" Then I got on my bike and rode off.
The kid shouting, was the most significant response that I have ever gotten from the public, and even that was no big deal.
So if you are nervous about OCing and would like to take a walk sometime, feel free to let me know.
