Was going to go up to the local PD. While speaking with a supervisor over the phone, he asked if I would be armed? I said yes... I have a CPL and intended to open carry as it's to hot to deal with a IWB leather holster today. His response was as follows, "If you carry your firearm into the station, you will be arrested." When I told him open carry was legal, he hung up on me. Can someone please provide me with a site? Thinking this supervisor needs to be informed about the law...

OC in a police station?

Well...searching & reviewing handgunlaw.us, MGO’s site, and MI SP sites I was unable to discern a specific cite stating LE facilities are off limits/GFZ for OC/CC’g citizens. Note, I am unaware of MI’s statewide exemption practices for local communities!
That stated...
1. Sure you were speaking to a supervisor?
a. While not knowing the subject matter initially being discussed, the individual asking out of the blue - “would you be armed?” seems a bit discerning.
b. That you openly anonymously challenged the individual is your call...however that they allegedly hung up on you was flat out rude IMHO.
2. What would you whine about to LE’s sr mgmt?
a. If it is cuz you believe you can carry - don’t engage - you’ll lose unless your personal attorney is by your side!
b. If it is cuz you believe being hung up on is worthy of an unarmed in-person discussion - go for it. BUT...
[sr mgmt LE, “oh ya the individual you talked to mentioned to me the line went unexpectedly went dead and they stated they didn’t know how to get back you - sorry!”]
3. Since you state you can w/o statutory cite a question raised are LE/correction facilities marked as GFZs?

What I discern from the appeal is neither were charged with carrying in a police station.
Open carrying in a police station is not illegal.
Thanks CoL for they additional background....and as for not being illegal...how much have the defendants, allegedly found guilty by their peers, lost in lost wages & paid out in attorney fees?

There's always to good old GATTTOTP for frightened LE administrators upon which to fall back. 'Hey we're public!'. 'We just want to go home safe at night and digest our donuts', or something like that. (just kidding)

There is something of a tradition of OCing into police stations by the old timers on this site to respond to rights being violated.
MCL 123.1102 and a lack of other laws is pretty clear. There are exceptions, like community colleges, whose police departments are authorized by the community colleges act to pretty well do as they please as authorized by the institution.
But yes, oc into local police department common areas is legal, and if it isn't attached to a court the law is against them stopping you. This state doesn't have as reliably honest and law abiding cops as most other regions I have visited, and it has often turned into a criminal cop rights violating frenzy. Ocing into a police department is thus only something I would suggest be done by an expert who is running a streaming video camera, and in a large group if the agency is known to be openly corrupt.

I have OCed over the years in multiple agencies with little to no problem. St. Clair Sheriff tried giving me grief several years ago saying since the jail was attached i couldn't carry. Told him I was there for other business NOT the jail. Quoted MCL 123.1102 to him, he said "Oh, your one of them." shook his head, turned around and walked away not saying another word to me..
That being said I was not wearing a ski mask, in body armor nor was I carrying a long gun. Common sense and a properly holstered firearm go a long way.
