If we really are talking about a phobia then no amount of dressing to impress will allay that fear. Might as well just go about your NORMAL life and not worry about others. Nothing you can do for them...Unless you are a mental health professional.

Actually, yes it can help.

You said very plainly that if we wanted to participate in your "normalization" that we had to dress the way you wanted us to. We choose not to be a part of your club.
No, that is not accurate, no matter how many times you desire to misrepresent what I actually said.

Do you believe that others judge people based upon appearance or not?

That is a very simple concept to address. Why do you and others refuse to address it?

Hold on there sir. Are you saying that because I CURRENTLY reside a couple thousand miles away that I have no right to participate in Colorado specific issues? Why don't you contact Mike or John and see if they will lock the state forums to verified state residence only. Maybe only those with Colorado listed on their birth certificate? You see MT, I LOVE Colorado. My SO and I were just talking this weekend while we were pitching our tent beside the lake that we can't wait to move to Colorado. We both had wanted to move to Colorado before we even met. We think it will be a great place to raise our kids (blended family.) I have been in love with Colorado for a long time. Colorado is my home, I just have not made it there yet.

Howdy Amigo!
No, I haven't said anything of the sort. You'll not find anywhere that I suggested anything of the kind, including the portion of what I said that you quoted for the purpose of your response. Folks in Colorado tend to get along, being mostly laid back and groovy, while the troubles seem to come from flatlanders and interlopers. Now that doesn't say all visitors to the Colorado forum are troublesome, but when troublesome comes along, it ain't Coloradoans as a rule who make the trouble. I wouldn't suggest that anybody from another state be denied the warm welcome of the Colorado board. We are a welcoming sort of folk here along the front range! But there are some who come to this forum to seem to be malcontents and perhaps only hang out here to raise rabble. Of those do I speak. Those who dislike our (mostly) mellow and easy going manner. Our folks tend to be respectful and tolerable. Some from elsewhere tend to be opinionated, judgemental and discourteous, sometimes to an extreme. Of those do I speak. People who judge what another's motivations are, what their demeanor is like, or their personality when never having spoken a single word with them in person. Then comes the name calling and ad hominems, and it just dont seem to come from our Coloradoans.

Folks of good will are more than welcome to join us here, regardless of where they live.
We should be able to have respectful exchanges of ideas without some of the nastiness we've seen.
We can disagree, but we should also be able to disagree with dignity!

Blessings,
M-Taliesin

Because it doesn't matter. Am I to carry 7 sets of cloths in the car to dress for any occasion I might find myself in? What do I do if I am around people who distrust people dressed in khakis and a button up? Do I need to run out to the car and change? I just don't get it. I cannot go through life worrying about what others think about the way I am dressed.

Yes, it does matter. You can deny it, but that doesn't change reality.

No matter what YOU choose to do, or how YOU choose to dress, others WILL judge you based upon your appearance. Not everyone will do so, but there are plenty of people who judge others based upon appearance. It is valid to take this into account. Your choice to not take it into account does not make it go away.

It clearly matters to you, but some of us like making our own decisions.

No one here is denying that. No one is preventing you from making your own decisions.

I choose to get as much valid information as possible so I can make informed decisions.
I also choose to share the information that I feel is valid. I do not force others to use that information.

This thread has outlived its usefulness. Dress any way you like when you OC, but you will be judged based upon how you present yourself. That is simply a fact of life. And as I said, that goes beyond your clothes into your attitude and composition. As to people who don't live in CO jumping in, why the hell not? We uplanders certainly go to their flatland forums enough...

There is a difference between sharing and weak attempts to intimidate with asking the same trolling questions over and over again. A few others and myself made it dayum clear we do not care what others think, about how we or others dress or how we are judged. That IS a individual freedom to dress as a person pleases as long as they obey laws. Now if you got something to show were the law specifies attire for OC or caring, I suggest it is time to stop whimpering.

You are not getting it. If some people judge me poorly because I wear shorts, t-shirts and hiking boots and have long hair and a beard then some will judge you poorly because of your khakis and button up with short hair and shaved face. Who gets to decide what the appropriate dress is?

Yet one of you did make it clear that you care how we appear to others in this forum, right?

I do not deny that each person has an individual freedom to choose how they desire to appear. I also do not deny that others are likely to judge us on how we do appear. Your choise to not care what others think does not change that reality.

No one has to.

I "get it." I understand it. You and others simply don't seem to care.

If someone were to be in a suit, and visit a biker bar, that will obviously not be a decent "fit" for the environment, and those in the bar will judge that person based upon their appearance.

If someone were to wear biker colors into a trendy night club, those there will judge that person based upon their appearance.

That IS reality. Use that information, or don't use that information, I care not.

So...What EXACTLY is "dressing for the campaign"?
I would suggest to consider dressing for the campaign, as opposed to not dressing for the campaign.

Frankly, if someone is so hung up on my facial hair, white T-shirt , cargo shorts and flips flops that they fail to see a polite individual who smiles and greets them warmly while holding a door, a devoted responsible father who will drop whatever he is doing to make time for his children, and a loving husband who would move mountains for the wife he would protect from all harm, why would I give a fig about that stranger’s opinion? Some people just clearly have no perspective on what’s important in life and actions speak far louder than apparel. ;)

That is a good part of "appearance," don't you think?

Do you feel that those who do NOT care how others view them will be polite and smile?

Indeed, how we carry ourselves is a part of "appearance." Hence, why I stressed the portion of appearance I believe is important and distinguished it from what I believe is irrelevant. However, I'm not polite because I care about the opinions of others. I'm polite because that's how I was raised. I treat everyone well, until they've given me a reason to cease doing so. Anyone who doesn't like the way that I comport myself, whether in attitude or apparel, is perfectly welcome to take a long walk off a short pier. :p

My point was that what we, as LAC's, do will likely have a longer lasting impact than how we look, so let's not sweat the small stuff, eh?
