We don't necessarily have the deep pockets of Bloomberg or the State of New York (who is paying for the ad anyway? Better not be taxpayer money), but it would be nice to run an open carry ad/billboard in NYC. That would be a nice turn-about.

Interesting thought. Wonder if anybody would accept it.

I'd be in for part of it.

Quite an interesting idea. They're all ready to shut down the Second Amendment, why don't we give them a little of the First, lol. Awesome idea, where do I donate to so we can get that sign up?

I'll donate too. Probably get Oleg Volk to do or provide a photo for it too. I'd like to see it point out his hipocrisy in that he's anti gun but has hired guns all around him......

I would certainly contribute whatI could to that billboard idea, but billboards are expensive!
OCDO contributors carried them with aplomb in Texas.

Course we all know that Texas is a much more worthy cause than Virginia. :?

Would this be a billboard for use in VA or something to have hang outside the mayor's office in NY?

Wouldn't be grand if we were able to get some electronic billboard time in Times Square? Something like the advertising done down in Texas.

Even if it was only for a week - just to push the visual that a person in Virginia open carrying is just not that big of a deal.

I wonder what a weeks worth would cost.. ;)

Especially if the billboard picture/advertisement got picked up in some commercial or advertisement or live news broadcast 'by accident'. You just can't put value on that message. :)

Edited: added last paragraph

Folks, if you think for one second that the brady bunch and Bloomberg will host this event in a place where you can carry you'd be dead wrong. I have no idea where the event will be, however past experience shows the MMM learned its lesson concerning holding meetings in places open to the public. Expect this on private property, a church, or a school. Opposing views are not allowed to be heard in the gun control crowd, especially at their news conferences.

I'd love to ask the hypocrite mayor how many ARMED body guards he brought with him.
Wow, I should go buy some lottery tickets now, everything I predicted came true and then some! Secret Service agents? Ohh how impressive!!

Take note of one thing here folks: I don't think he would recv SS protection unless he had spun them up and made a claim he felt his safety was at risk. Makes me wonder how the SS views OCDO activists. Especially in light of the revalation that Libertarians are terrorists based on a report from the Missouri Fusion Center.

Dear Mayor:
Dear Mayor:

I see you are sticking your nose into Virginia affairs again (NYC mayor to release anti-gun ad in Virginia (http://www.wtop.com/?nid=600&sid=1646955)). As a resident of Virginia, I respectfully ask you butt out. Since you are neither an elected official or a citizen of the Commonwealth of Virginia, your actions are unnecessary, unwelcome, and meddlesome.

Sincerely,
xxxxx
I finally (and surprisingly) received a response from Mayor Bloomberg:

ETA: My note sent on April 10. Response received 4:14PM on June 2.

Dear rlh2005:
Thank you for your email regarding my participation in the campaign to close the gun show loophole in Virginia. You should know that I support the Second Amendment, but like the vast majority of Americans and gun-dealers, I firmly believe that protecting gun rights for law-abiding citizens can go hand-in-hand with enacting common sense measures to keep illegal guns out of the hands of criminals.

My trip to Virginia focused on just one part of that effort-making sure that gun shows do not allow criminals or others prohibited by federal law from purchasing guns to buy them without background checks. Currently, gun buyers are required to undergo background checks only if they purchase from a licensed dealer. However, if they buy guns from private or "occasional" sellers, like many of the vendors at gun shows, there is no requirement that their mental health history or criminal record be checked. The simple and unfortunate truth is that this loophole allows criminals-or individuals with mental health histories like the Virginia Tech killer's-to acquire guns, which they can then use to commit crimes in Virginia and other states across the country, including New York.

Closing the gun show loophole is critical to fixing America's broken background check system. Our Administration, and the more than 350 members of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition, will continue to do everything possible to keep our residents safe by making sure that guns are not sold to criminals or other potentially dangerous people. While we may not agree entirely on this issue, I appreciate your sharing your point of view with me.

Sincerely,
Michael R. Bloomberg
Mayor

At least you got a response - that was a real surprise.

What is not a surprise is the typical/stereotype anti spin. Whenever I see the phrase "common sense measures", I know that somebody is trying to take our rights away!

Virgina Tech should be an example of why the people need the ability to defend themselves without restrictions - not using the tragedy to reduce that right.

Narrow minded bigot that he is, says he supports the 2nd Amendment! How? :cuss:
