It would have been nice if they showed more than one sentence of what I said. I did explain to them WHY we have rights. They showed my butt more than what I had to say!

That's OK, it didn't make your butt look fat.

For your next interview you might want to state that Washington does not allow police officers to merely "Stop and Identify". They must have reasonable suspicion that a crime is being committed or is about to be.

These are points that most ordinary citizens, that make up the viewing audience, don't know or understand. Ed Troyer's statement would only be correct IF the officers could make the case you were committing a crime or were about to. Otherwise it is PR Bull that is meant to deflect from the real issue.

I did like the fact that Steve Raible, in his statements, made it clear that Open Carry is legal in Washington.

Using Ed Troyer's logic, given that he used Clemmons (who was carrying concealed) as a justification, It sounds like he's saying they can detain and demand ID from every black man who enters a coffee shop. That is much more justified than detaining someone for open carry, but no less stupid.

I predict the Saturday coffee is going to be exactly like the Vancouver picnic. Except that the Sheriff won't ask our advice about how to handle open carriers. I predict they will be in the parking lot, in an unmarked vehicle and watch.

If someone sees an unmarked car with officers in it, then I say call the cops and report two armed men in a car that are illegally loitering and you find their actions disturbing to you. :)

Troyer knows how to use the media and shifts the focus from violation of rights to...we have a right to protect the poor defenseless baristas and other patrons. He knows that plays well with the general public regardless of the officers being in the wrong.

A mere report of a man with a gun is not grounds for a Terry stop. Florida v. J. L., 529 U.S. 266 (2000). Americans cannot be required to carry and produce identification credentials on demand to the police. Kolender v. Lawson, 461 U.S. 352 (1983). Washington does not have a "stop and ID" statute. However, even where a state enacts a "stop and ID" statute, stop must be limited to situations where RAS exists of a crime, and further,

stop subject's statement of his name satisfies the ID requirement

as Kolender, discussed supra, has not been overruled.

Even if washington was a stop and ID state, Tom satisfied the Id requirement by stating his name.

I actually did mention that. It's just not the part they chose to show. I said plenty more about the rights of a citizen also. Oh, and thanks Amlevin for admiring my butt. ;)

Might I suggest someone buying him/her a coffee and a muffin and taking it out to the car?

My buddy once had the FBI watching his house over some gang suspicion thing. Totally unfounded but...

After they had been sitting there for two days he made coffee and carried it down to them. Ended up having a nice chat and they never came back.

My only suggestion to Tom would be to avoid the Nazi comparison thing. That is so overdone these days.

I also noticed that they may have edited it to make it sound like you thought the 4th Amendment was written because the Nazis violated people's rights. :)

It was really your gun I was looking at. The rest was just "background".

Sorry Tom, if you looked more like this-------

Wonder what the Sheriff's Deputy would have done is these girls had come in for coffee?

israel3vk9.jpg

Would he have felt intimidated, or just inadequate?

Knowing that those ladies are IDF, any American LEO would be well advised to be very polite to them or else leave them alone.

Don't mess with the British SAS, the Israeli IDF, or the Gurkhas.

Yeah, I've met some sterling examples of all three.

What is the address of the Starbucks? This thread is getting too big to search.
