I have open carried for over a year now and have not had a bad encounter. Today the wife and I went to the fair grounds to enter our things for this year’s fair. The ladies behind the table were sitting just below my XDM 40, not a word was said. I even had to help carry my entry around the table and place it on the display, it was a lot of glass, and going around the counter is a no no. I know that some day I will have a bad encounter. I always try to smile and be as helpful as I can and so far it has worked. Last year at the fair I CC; have any of you OLD timers OC at the Kitsap Fair?

I think it was last year we went to the Kitsap Fair and Rodeo and I OCed the whole day. Had a couple of the carnie ride operators make comments (both positive and negative) but no one asked me to leave. I think one of the ride operators left his post to a helper so he could go find out if it was ok; he made a sideways snide comment about my being armed as he left. But he came back after the ride was over and avoided eye contact with me and just did his job. We rode most of the rides and we walked through all of the animal stalls. I even walked around the cops DUI display without trouble. I carry an XD45 Tactical in Desert Tan in a Blackhawk SERPA CQC holster with two extra mags on the other side. It's kinda hard to miss it.

After OCing at Galaxy Theater in Gig Harbor many times, my friend was told he couldn't take his gun inside. We both carry in there when we go, even the day of the Aurora incident to see Batman. This is the first time they have said anything to either of us.

After stopping by the UPS distribution center to drop off a couple packages I dropped in at Cliff's Cycle Center to see if they could fix my helmet. I got a used cycle the other day and the helmet the guy gave me had a minor problem with the visor. Ended up in a long chat about firearms with a nice lady that worked there. Nice bunch of folk in there it seemed.

We inflicted the kids on her parents and went to Aladdin's in Silverdale for dinner. Then Jo-Ann Etc., Michael's, and Barnes & Noble.

I chickened out and swapped the OWB leather-holstered Sig Sauer Black Scary Pistol for the much more subtle IWB Ruger revolver, so it was really kind of semi-OC. I didn't feel like having conversations with strangers.

Had lunch at taco time in Poulsbo no word about the XD on my hip but to be honest I don't think anyone noticed

On a side note I am going to South Dakota at the end of the mouth for a few days. Four days ago I posted a new thread on South Dakota's OCDO page announcing my visit and asking for any advise as I do plan on bringing my gun. So far it's been dour days and zero responses. Their entire board has month old threads with few if any responses. It just made me feel fortunate for what we have in Washington. I am thankful to be part of such a busy a proactive community

No shame in that sometimes I don't feel like playing the roll of teacher either

I hope you have a good time in South Dakota. I don’t know if both Taco Time in Silverdale and Poulsbo are owned by the same people. When the one in Silverdale opened the wife and I went in for lunch. We met the owner; I showed him my XDM 40 and ask how gun friendly they were going to be. He answered no problem you can carry in here any time. So I figure if the owner is OK it must be ok. We ate there again today. If I had known you were in Poulsbo Taco Time we could have gone there. After that we went to Burger King (T T doesn’t have sweat potato fries) for desert, then off to Grocery Outlet. Then we went to the fair to enter jelly. No comments today at all; it is nice when someone likes to talk guns but no luck today.:(

All of the exhibits have to be entered and judged before the fair starts. We entered Crafts last weekend and Jam this weekend. Flowers and fresh fruits & vegetables are tomorrow from noon to 8pm. Go pick some blackberries and see if you can beat me out :shocker:

Open Carry Blackberry Challenge

I challenge all Kitsap County OC to a blackberry challenge judged by the Kitsap County Fair. All entries must be submitted on August 20 from noon to 8pm at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. If you think your berries are better than my berries put up or shut up. Put an OC after your name on entry. I’ll be packing my XDM when I go check out my blue ribbon.

@ 1830 From the Scanner: Someone with a black t-shirt that has an emblem on the side was reported to the police for open carry. I missed the location. The officer asked the dispatcher if the OCer was doing anything suspicious, the dispatcher said no. There may have been another caller as well.

At least the cop was asking follow up questions

Thursday after work the wife and I went to see how we did with our entrees. After walking around about 3 hours I had received no comment about the XDM OC. When we were going back to the car I remembered that I forgot something in the exhibition hall. With my hand stamp I went back in; the ticket lady said “Oh, you have a stamp and a weapon” I answered “no this is not a weapon; it is a personal defiance hand gun!” :banghead: That was the end of Thursday.

Saturday wife dragged me around for7 hours. On the way in the ticket taker looked down and said “Oh, I did not know WA was an OC state. I just moved here from Florida. I told him yes, it is, and he should go to this web site. That was all the time I had; the line was backing up. I had absolutely no negative comments all during the day. I talked to two WSP at their display; nothing was said about my attire, went over to the KC sheriff display got a pencil and had a nice talk with him; again no comment. While going by one booth the occupant said he felt safer as soon as he saw the side arm. A lady at one booth stopped me and asked about OC. She said she had seen me go by several times. I ended up talking with her about 30 minutes. She wanted info for her daughter and grandchild. I directed her to NRA Eddy Eagle for the grandchild and this site for her daughter. It was a great day had some fun and got second place for black berries.

Not too bad of a open carry day I started with getting gas around 1400 at the Texaco in Poulsbo near burger king. I had a man and woman in a car next to my pump and had no problems when I walked to the trash can. They both had a good view of my smith and wesaon.

At 1500 I walked into Borners in Gorst. I had not been there in years because the last time I was there I was open carrying and received a lecture on how illegal open carry was and was then told to cover up or leave, so I left. Today was my first time back in years and again I was open carrying. Very different experience today, I walked in and was greeted by a man behind the counter. He welcomed me into the store ans left me alone. I found a sexy galco leather holster for my revolver I could not find anywhere ells. I have been in the market for one for a while bit have not been able to find one. I took my holster up to pay and the same man behind the counter complimented me on my revolver and told me I bought his favorite brand of holster. We talked for a minute on how attractive revolvers look and we compared how we both personally like to keep our retention. That was it I paid and left, the man I believe to be Borner was near by behind a computer overlooking the store. He made eye contact with me but nothing more.

Nothing says sexy like a polished chrome revolver in a leather holster

Started my Motorcycle Safety Course last night at the Silverdale Air Park. OCed in class, no one ran out of the shack, instructor didn't even mention it till I made a wise crack about when to show up Saturday morning. All he did then was scowl at me and said "just gimme that gun". LOL Went to Arby's in Silverdale for a bite after the class. One of the other customers was excited about my OC, the kid behind the counter was more interested in my hat and shirt. (Confederate kapi and a shirt with the pulse rifle from Aliens and "Peace through superior firepower" on the front.)

Did PNW change locations from the Mall to the Airport? I took the class in June and was at the Mall. It's a great class for anyone who wants to get their endorsement. The instructors I had were really good. Not too nice so it forced me to learn from my mistakes. Also, which instructors did you have? I had Mojo and Steve and a guy walked by while OCing and had a quick chat with Steve and he didn't seem bothered or like he even really noticed (even though the guy was in a tight black "Range Officer" shirt with a gun on his hip).

We're at the airpark. My instructor is Dave but I don't recall his last name. He has very white hair and beard and is a former Navy guy. I think he may be the owner. The guy helping him I think was Steve. I had emailed them prior to taking the class to see what their feeling was about OC. Dave responded and said he needed to check with the state to see what their contract would say. I explained the state laws real quick and how the DOL facilities were effected. Also let him know that the Airpark was private and so it all boiled down to whether or not they had a prohibition and whether he had a prohibition. We went back and forth a few times and it came down to whether or not the instructor cared.

He asked that if the instructor wanted me to lock it up if I would have a problem with that. I wanted the course so I said if I showed up and was told to stow it I would have to follow the instructors request. Well, that didn't happen, so I'm good.

I passed the written test last night, now I have the skills test this morning. Next, when I have the money I want to do the level two course with my own bike so I can get used to it. But I have some things to get for the bike first.

I think I've seen that guy teaching, though it was back when it was at the mall. Steve is an awesome guy. He is one of the reasons I did so well. He didn't hold back on the criticism when I screwed up and it helped me correct my problems. At one point he actually said "Where do you want me to send the flowers?" after i took a turn a bit too fast and thought I was going to go down. Helped me dial in my speed.

As for the Skills test, though you'll probably be done with it by the time you read this, it isn't that bad. The box is probably the scariest part and is so minuscule in the grade that you can fail it completely and still do really well on the test. Just make sure not to start stopping before the line in the Quick Stop. That was my big fear since if
you start stopping early they will auto-fail that section.

Hopefully you do well and can be one more of the endorsed bikers out there. That is if you're not endorsed, if you're doing it to get the safety course completed for on base or for insurance, well, i will be glad that there's one more safe biker out there. =]
