Personally, I prefer to have my holstered handgun where it can be literally under my elbow - retention and accessibility.

Also think that the 4-5:00 position is more likely to offer more opportunity for hip injury in a fall as well as being very difficult to draw from a seated position.

RKC, couple of queries:

Sounds johnny come lately, been checked for proper eye domance? (But i know i’m a lefty mommy made me write and do everything as a lefty reverse as the case may be)

Why are you carrying and what handgun are you carrying?

how long have you carried your handgun? Do you normally CC or OC?

what kinda holster do you use, tactic kool or uncle mikes, with or without retention?

do you have range of motion issues?

depending on your choice of handgun have you tried middle of back, inside or outside waist band,

have you participated in formal training activities, e.g., NRA basic or PP In/Outside the home or tactic kool courses? To learn proper draw and appropriate presenting techniques you use in live fire exercises.

Have you, after verifying the firearm is inloaded (check again) practiced in front of a mirror or cam to watch your draw, watching where your trigger finger is during said draw? (See above)

RKC, by now i hope you are seeing your query isn’t a simple fix ‘oh draw from this position’ and an answer to fit you query is dependent on a gaggle of variables including your physical stature.

YO, firearm instructor bloke from n va/md wanta step up and provide a couple hours public service activity by giving a hands on basic drawing & presenting skills lesson from PP O/H techniques to this member...if you feel renumeration is necessary, I’ll catch the tab.

3 or 9, depending on hand, is the most versatile standing or sitting.

Most of the time I carry at about 330.

Body size, holster, firearm type, spacing of the belt loops all have a bearing where the firearm position is.

A true 3 o'clock position is right on my hip bone not very comfortable for me.

I agree with grapeshot, if you fall on it its gonna hurt and hurt badly. I'm a 3 o clock kind guy. I'd ask yourself can you access your gun when seated? Seated in a car, a restaurant, etc?

Body size and shape has a huge influence on how, where and how comfortable it is to carry a handgun.

Along with the size shape and weight of the firearm.

Then one adds in any physical difficulties or limitations they can change the equation also.

That is why some of us have a draw full of holsters and safes full of guns.

Because one size or one type doesn't do it all.

That is the great thing about living in a free county and a free state.

You were doing great until your last sentence. Where is that country and/or state? And, buy the why, is it Day-wear or Swim-wear?

As far as I know there are more states then not that have no limits on the number of guns one can buy and possess.

And where is the place or position you wear your holster.

I carry a 5 inch 1911 or compact STI 2011 at 4 o'clock canted forward IWB, so that the slide sits behind my hip bone. 5 o'clock is too far behind for automobile seating. At 3 o'clock the grip safety digs into my side since I'm over weight.

I sometimes carry a Sig 938 in a belt holster also at 4 o'clock.

Carrying position

I carry at 3 or 4 and carry a Kimber CDP 2 in 4" in a galco with forward slant and thumb break it is comfortable for me driving and all other activities , I hope you have came to a conclusion on your preference everyone I know would not carry at the 6 o'clock position simply because if you God forbid fall on your back your really really going to hurt yourself but good . Let us know what you decide and carry on !

By law, not just federal law, but Constitutional law, as in "the supreme Law of the Land," no states are authorized to infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Yet they do, and the courts have allowed them to get away with it through faulty interpretation of a very simple and straightforward Amendment.

And where is the place or position you wear your holster.

2 O'clock high. Used to be 3 O'clock low with my tactical holster.
