You are right! It is not important anyway. One that you can use well, is better than dozens you can't hit with. Besides, one is all you really need. That'll get you any others you may need. Sharp butterknife anyone?

I just recently realized that I've purchased five firearms in the past 30 days. So much for "one gun a month" restrictions being construed as "common sense gun laws."

No 50 BMG -- yet.

Most anything else . . . either I have it now or have owned it at one time. (I sold the Glocks and the AR's.)

I just bought an "elephant gun." -- No, not a lot of elephants locally. .458 Win. Mag.

but at least you'll be ready for them if an Elephant rampage occurs, or if an elephant sized BG decides it's your turn to be robbed...

Until your one gun breaks. And you can't get parts because 1) they've been banned, or 2) society no longer exists as we know it and you thus can't find parts.

Or until you run out of ammo for your caliber of gun, and can only find ammo in other calibers.

Or until your friends, family, and/or neighbors are in need of defensive weapons.

Or until you get shot for trying to steal someone else's guns.

Perhaps it is determined by the events for which one is preparing. Admittedly, though, for garden-variety self-defense (mugging, car-jacking, store robbery, etc), I can see your point.

Currently I own 3 firearms, two of which compose my personal/home defense arsenal.

* Browning Buckmark .22 (plinking, practice, and an easy in for new shooters; almost every shooter who shoots for pleasure has one)

* Ruger P-95 9mm loaded with Federal HydraShoks, and a spare mag of same (main carry, car, and nightstand gun; had it for 9 months now, fits me, very familiar with it)

* Mossberg 500 Persuader 8-shot, loaded with Winchester Super X 00 Buck(brand-new, once I get used to having it, it will be the go-to gun for bumps in the night)

That's pretty much it. I am considering a more carryable gun for wardrobe that won't cover the Ruger well (you'd be surprised though). That could either be a slimmer 9mm or a TDA/safe-action 45; I'm finding more of the former, but being a practical guy I can't yet justify more than one gun of a caliber. A 1911 would fit the bill if I find the right one, but I'd prefer a double-single.

I'm always preparing for a Zombie invasion. That's why I picked the AK over the AR, and the Glock over the Kimber. No time to clean guns or be picky with your ammo when walking corpses are after you.

In all seriousness, though, thinking about the worst possible situation is useful in making sure you are prepared for all. The undead trying to eat your flesh is pretty bad...

But anyhow, one day when my friend has a good deal more disposable income, he can afford to have "fun" guns in obscure calibers, of questionable reliability, and of questionable usefulness. While his guns are certainly fun to shoot, their primary purpose is preparedness for TEOTWAWKI, and any disaster/emergency less serious than that.
