I have in excess of the average 7, however, only 5 of them would be considered modern firearms. The others I inherited and the newest of them is my g/fer's circa 1930 .22 rifle. I intend to purchase 2 modern rifles before January in case they are banned again and if funds allow, another Sig pistol as well. After that I have 2 other rifles and another pistol to buy to round out my collection.

I can easily see where 7 would be the average though to have a well rounded collection in common calibers for sport, defense and hunting. Something like:

AR15 variant
AK47/SKS variant
.308/.30-06 or other long range/hunting rifle
12 ga shotgun
.22 plinker
9mm handgun
other caliber handgun

Well, let me be the first to state the obvious:

If only 7 is the average, we need to adjust our financial priorities. If we could get the average up to, say, an even dozen, we'd be heading the right direction!:D

As for me-

I'm covered, but I will be buying a few more here and there. New platforms, variants of current models, and calibers just keep popping up. What am I to do?

Yeah I read 7 was the avg. number of gun a avid shooter owns. But that number seems to be a bit low from what I see here. I figured the avg. would be around 5-6 myself here. I am behind the power curve BIG TIME!!!

But there is only one way to come up to speed huh.....:celebrate

I may own 8+ firearms sometime, but I will be a dead man because my wife will kill me when she finds more and more guns in the house:shock:

Wow, now I want to accessorize my AK. It's pretty vanilla right now except for polymer furniture.

1x Hi-Point 4095 carbine with several mags
1x Kel-Tec Sub-2000 (.40S&W)
1x M1 Garand with a few dozen clips
5x Mosin Nagants of various types, including one scoped
1x Ruger Redhawk (.44 magnum)

8000x 7.62mmx39
1100x .44 Magnum
1200x .40 S&W

You wouldn't happen to be friends with Sara Brady, would you? I'd like to see the look on her face when she sees this in your collection!

I won't put a list here, I don't like the idea of the government being able to find out.
If the government wanted your guns they really wouldn't need a list. They'd just roll in and take them regardless of whether or not you told us.
