As I awake this morning after having partied most of the night with my like minded friends, my mind muses on gun rights in the wake of the crushing defeat of the RNC by the DNC last night on Nov 6, 2012.
I think the NRA will need to do more during the coming months and years to discourage any new gun laws. Because as we all know, guns do not kill, people do.
I think that under the Roberts court of the USSC, an AWB would probably be ruled to be unconstitutional. The 5 gun loving guys on the court seem to judge guns by their popularity, and from the wording of Heller any gun that is popular is protected by 2A, and AR-15's are definitely super-popular. It is practically the only rifle I ever see at our local gun range whenever I go (once a year) to sight-in my 1903 Springfield-esque bolt action scoped hunting rifle.
I hope the DNC will not let Obama go for an AWB however, because last time Clinton did this is spawned Newt Gingrich and cost the DNC control of both houses of Congress. And that's not worth it. Crazed psycho's use their AK-47's and AR-15's to kill only a few handful of victims every year, and that's a lot less than drug pigeons or DUI drivers kill in a month.
I think it is unfortunate that crazed psycho's love AK-47's and AR-15's so much, but that does not mean that having an AK or AR makes you a crazed psycho. It only means there are some really bad apples in your midst with the same kind of guns.
I wish the NRA could concentrate their efforts on promoting Constitutional Carry or Shall-Issue legislation at the very least. But the popularity of AK's and AR's and their use by psycho shooters all across the USA in several notorious incidents is going to distract the NRA from Constitutional Carry or Shall-Issue legislation.
Good luck, LaPierre. Keep the faith and keep up the good work.
