Some of the people I've met, the dumbest thing they ever did with a firearm was to pick one up.

As for the the juvenile behavior of military personnel, I have to agree. I was in the Army for a few years and it's hard to avoid the "I'm a badass because I'm in the military" attitude. More experienced and mature soldiers are aware of this little psychological phenomenon and know how to turn it off. The younger bucks are just so excited to have their first antlers that they can't control themselves.

That's all right, though, buy them a beer and, while they're drinking it, explain to them how they fk'd up.

I had my glock 19 handgun on the passenger seat of my car, loaded with a 15 round clip + 1 in the chamber. The officer said he was going to remove the gun for 'officer safety' and I told him that was fine. At this time I told him that the gun had a mag in it and was loaded with a round in the chamber.

The officer then proceeds to reach into my car, and pull the gun out with the barrel pointing at me and his figer inside the trigger guard! He then drops the mag out onto the top of the car, brings the gun back down to waist level and proceeds to de-chamber my weapon with his finger still inside the trigger guard WHILE POINTING IT AT ME AGAIN! :banghead:

It freaked me out pretty bad. It was my first traffic stop ever so I didn't say anything. But after reviewing Idaho law, I discoverd that the officer was actually guilty of a misdemnor crime of 'pointing a firearm at/towards another person regardless of intention'

In retrospect, I should have filed a complaint against him and the department.
That asshat shouldn't be wearing a badge. What an incompetent twit.

In retrospect, I'd think you should have filed an assault charge, THEN complained about his training and that of his superiors, and publicized the irresponsible actions of the police department.

At the NRA range shooting my XD.

I happen to glance towards the other side of the shooting line, about 10 lanes over.

Guy looks DOWN the barrel of his revolver (mind you he painted the entire range as well) AT A RANGE!!

Needless to say, the ranger ran out faster then I have ever seen one run out before.

I was shooting at Dominion Shooting Range last year, and these two "gangstas" decided to stand all the way back to the wall (about 6-8 feet from the firing line) while shooting Dominion's 9mm AR-15. Due to the fact that I was in the next stall over, I wasn't that pleased. As soon as I saw what was going on, the range officer came over and took care of it. Needless to say, I moved to the other side of the range.

A few months ago. My friend and I were doing some practice with our glocks on his dads land. His dads brother comes out and asks if he can shoot some. (sure. why not.) Why not indeed. After firing 3 or 4 rounds he turns around to hand the gun back to my friend. Barrel first. Finger on trigger.

I pee'd a little.

Went shooting at a local range and took a couple buddies, we were using some sort of ruger .22 i think and my friend Eddie shot a few rounds, turned the gun on himself to look at the front of it then pointed it back down range to empty the rest of the clip. Needless to say we told him how stupid he was and wont let him live it down. I was afraid someone had seen him too and that we would get kicked out because of him. Had he shot himself in the forehead I doubt it would have penetrated anyways :p.

One of my "buddies" threw a .22 rimfire round in a campfire. I was less than impressed.

You're easily 'impressed.' Momentum is conserved. The bullet and cartridge will have the same momentum in opposite directions, the bullet will move little and slowly and the cartridge will move more but stop easily.

Believe nothing you read or hear without verifying it yourself unless it fits your pre-existing world view. The conspiracy of ignorance masquerades as common sense.

Either we are equal or we are not. Good people ought to be armed where they will, with wits nad guns and the truth. NRA KMA$$

The dumbest thing I have seen has to be where the Government has continually tried, and succeeded in many ways, to disarm the citizens while simultaneously arming itself to the teeth to police those same citizens. The next dumbest thing would have to be someone turning in a functioning gun to one of the “buy-back” stunts.

I agree... unfortunately, at the time I had a lot of stuff going on in my life, plus the fact that it was my first traffic stop ever and I was nervous as hell. Finally, I had not type of recording device in my car at the time so I would have been unable to prove officer incompetance in criminal charges. I definately should have filed a complaint with the department though

Dumbest thing I've seen so far is a bunch of people out shooting. In the middle of PMI in Pueblo, Colorado. With all sorts of dirtbikes, quads, and trucks all around the area since it is a riding area. Called the police but none ever showed up.

When I was about 12 or so, I walked over to a friends house when I heard him shooting a .22....when I got there, he was putting .22 rounds into a crack between two boards of an old shed (bullet inwards) and shooting at them with a BB gun.....:banghead: ....I left as soon as I saw what he was doing.
He wound up with one of the hulls embedding about half itself into his thigh.....evidently, when he had trouble hitting them from 15-20 ft, he moved in to 6-8 ft.

Didn't actually see the guy below but, a picture is worth a thousand words.....

That strikes me as staged, still pretty funny though. I also like the one where it shows a swat guy withhis red dot sight attached backwards.
Im not willing to give ATF that much credit. It is safer to assume stupidity in the same way we should assume any firearm we handle is loaded.
