So, DOJ cannot comply with the law - what is the penalty?

Which DOJ official will be arrested?

No penalty or remedy?

Then sounds like the legislature needs to pass one - like requiring DOJ to issue de facto permits like Virginia requires Circuit Courts to do if they fall behind on CHP processing.

The agency has received nearly 65,000 applications so far and has spent nearly $30,000 on overtime for processing.

They could spend a lot more considering they have taken in 3,250000 dollars from those 65000 permits. They have all the money needed to hire all the help they need. Training that help should be the only slow down.

If they use LTE's thye can just get rid of them when they get the number of permits down to a resonable number they can handle in the requried time period.

This is a huge money maker for the state and could be bigger if the law is changed so out of state residents could apply.

I think the reason the statute put a time frame on issuance was to force the DOJ to actually issue the licenses...if the next AG decided he didnt like the CCL, he could just NOT issue them...the law sets down a time frame that requires the dept to do so....

Wisconsin Statutes are full of toothless prohibitions. State firearms preemption is the most notorious here on OCDO-WI.

I'm guessing they now should have pushed for Constitutional Carry or accepted applications before Nov 1.

I'm sure glad they didn't! My double digit number could have been MUCH higher... Could you IMAGINE! Lol.

I said from the start they would be missing some deadlines in the future, and that NOTHING would be done when they did.
