I know I keep at it--but would you all please contact your legislators and ask them to support a Constitutional carry bill in this state?
We just don't seem to be making any headway at all on this and there is no reason why it can't become a reality.
I've already written Senator Campfield to thank him for at least introducing a Constitutional Carry bill (SB397). However, I'm not sure how much support is in place for it, since Campfield could not even get a House sponsor for the 2011 session.
I think maybe we should propose several bills for the 2012 session and see which one sticks.
(1) Constitutional Carry. This one would be ideal, but may not have enough support yet.
(2) Permitless car carry. For this one, just simply add "motor vehicles that the actor owns, lawfully uses, or is an occupant of" to the places already exempt from the law (home, residence, place of business).
(3) Permitless open carry. Just add the word "concealed" to the statute. Then, instead of it being illegal to possess a firearm with the intent to go armed, it would be illegal to possess a "concealed firearm with the intent to go armed."
I can easily be in touch with Senator Campfield and with House members Tony Shipley and Matthew Hill. Let me know if I can help with anything.
