Well, for those interested, we have an ongoing update about to happen with a CERT class in Henderson, being posted at Nevada Shooters: http://www.nevadashooters.com/showthread.php?p=567791&posted=1#post567791

thanks mac,

i just updated the NVS thread but i heard back from the Henderson Fire chief via email which i will paste below. I emailed beverly to let her know that henderson is now honoring state law and sent her the email. lets see what happens this weekend folks.

Good Morning Mr. XXX;

I apologize for the delay but there have been a number of changes in the laws recently that I wanted to make sure to research. Your points are all spot on; in addition, through new legislation in the last session the State of Nevada has taken the lead on possession, sale, and carry of firearms; essentially removing any local government nuance on the issue. The Nevada Revised Statutes have been interpreted to mean that open carry in most public buildings is permitted. Therefore, it remains your right to do so on the grounds of our fire training center.

I would ask you to consider that the class you are attending will be attended by citizens from all walks of life and the presence of a firearm may impact the learning environment that we are seeking to achieve in the CERT training. There are aspects of the training that require some physical contact and physical manipulation of fellow students that may create some angst or safety concerns if you are carrying a firearm. We would seek to remedy that by simply asking you to observe rather than directly participate in these simulations. I fully recognize your right to keep and bear arms and understand that you are well within your legal right to do so at the CERT training; however, I respectfully request that you consider not carrying your firearm during the CERT class in the interest of maintaining a comfortable learning environment for the group.

Thank you

Looks like he's trying to walk a fine line there. You're welcome, but some people have a phobia about guns and he's asking you to be nice to them.

I would probably observe, as he suggests.

I would also point out that anyone who has a phobia about weapons probably can't be counted on during disaster response. Their sensibilities are too fragile.

My brother is attending with me so if they are partner excerises i will work with him.

As far as the chief i did respond to his email.

"Thank you for your response, I do understand that people may be concerned that there is a firearm present, but would that not better their training? In a real world scenario would they leave my fellow gun owners on the street to parish because they have a firearm? I think positive interaction with firearms present helps ease the mind as the media has done a great job of protraying firearms as the bad guy and not the nutcase pulling the trigger. I hope the instructor is willing to demonstrate how a person should handle a medical situation where the person is armed, knowledge is power, which is the reason for the fear of firearms.

I hope you have a great day.

My thought, as posted on NS: Excellent response from them. Henderson is so way beyond Clark County and Las Vegas in this regard, it's staggering. There is simply no excuse for the blatant F-U given to us by Clark, LV, and their mindless follower, NLV.
