Carry it or not?

Hey guys, so, I have a few questions. I usually carry a Glock 21 for open carry, since I like Glocks for all of the known reasons. I also have a newer Dan Wesson Valor 1911.

The question is, do you guys carry your more expensive firearms, or your less expensive, for fear of them being taken away in some sort of overblown altercation? I tend to feel that $500 is a little less of a blow than $1500. Either way, I would be exceptionally angry if either of them were taken.

Also, a couple of questions about some of the rules in Wisconsin as far as ID and search and seizure.

I am under the impression that I don't have to give them my ID or name, and that they cannot hold me unless suspected of a crime. Do I even have to give them my name verbally? I believe if I was ever stopped I would just ask them if I was under arrest or for what I was being detained. If they could not tell me, then I would tell them that I feel I am free to leave. Enlighten me please.

agreed i carry a hi point ( laugh all you want) beacuse it is what i trust and what i like the feel of. i honestly cant see myself carrying anything else no matter what other guns i may have..... well i might carry a Dessert Eagle if i ever got one but on that note who wouldnt. :lol:

Being adequately armed is more important than the price of the gun. The price of the gun certainly won't determine whether you're adequately armed. A 100% reliable $300 Ruger is more valuable than a $2000 jam-o-matic in my eyes.

The question about ID is framed incorrectly. It's not "Do I have to give ID?" Because, no you don't. The better question is "What could happen if I don't give ID?" And the answer to that is "it depends."

"Dessert Eagle?" Do they serve whipped cream with that?

If you mean a Desert Eagle in .50 AE, I wouldn't carry it unless maybe I was in grizzly country.

For defense against humans it's a poor choice.

Carry what you're best with or have good reason to carry something else. I'm best with my Caspian 1911 but I most often carry my Glock 17. I carry the Glock more for the weight reduction than anything else. While I'm better with my Caspian my proficiency level is high enough that I don't feel like I'm giving anything up.

That Dan Wesson is a great gun but the weight will get to you. Maybe not at first, especially if you only carry on occasion or are in and out of the car a lot. But if you start carrying for long periods of time then you'll start to feel it. You may get used to it over time but you might be happier with the lighter gun in the long run.

I carry a Stainless SIG 226 Elite around. It's heavy, but even when I wear it all day around the house it never really bothers me. I dunno, maybe I have a high tolerance for hip weight?

Well, I agree with everybody here. I guess what my original question was, is if no instance happens where I have to use my firearm. If I did, than the last thing I would care about is my weapon being taken away. I'm just saying if the police decide to harass me and disarm me.

No, I realize its not a fashion show. I'm probably the first person that knows that. I would carry my Dan Wesson because I am more accurate with it, and my follow ups are much faster. I love my glocks, but I haven't really been able to perfect decently fast follow ups with them.

So, what I'm saying is, I carry for the purpose of self defense, but if carrying legally and minding my own business gets one of my firearms taken away for no reason, I'm going to carry the one that is most reliable and most replaceable. I was wondering what people carried for themselves. I usually buy a gun because I really like and want to keep it. Should I have to use it for its intended purpose and it is confiscated, alright, but not simply because I am carrying.



As far as the ID thing, if I ever get into an altercation, I plan on giving them my name verbally and nothing else. I will let them know that I plan on being silent and that they may not disarm me. If they cannot tell me of a crime I have committed and I am not under arrest, I will tell them I am going to leave peaceably and mind my own business.

I carry a XD45. I have received harassment from LEOs and that's where WCI came in and helped me. Everyone stood with me against those who infringe uponed my rights.

I remember it well! Remember to always keep a video or at least a audio recorder with you and turn it on when you see anyone coming that looks to be an issue. Protias did well with his video recorder when he was bothered.

Carry what you are comfortable with and what you are proficient with. I currently carry a Glock 36 simply because it is rather light and doesn't weigh down much on my hip. I did recently acquire a Kel-Tec PMR-30 in .22WMR and once I get proficient with it and get a decent holster I will carry it. Yes, I know...it is ONLY a .22WMR but loaded with 30 rounds it weighs less than 20 ounces.

I carry a custom government sized 1911 and have from the git go. I have put a lot of lead down range with this 1911 and it is accurate and reliable.

I like the Hi-Point a lot. Good gun for the buck. Iron clad guarantee. I recently had to have the little plastic cover on my mag release button replaced and they sent the whole unit. No hassle, no question. That little gun is accurate and reliable too. I'd have no concerns carrying it. As a matter of fact I did for a while when I first started carrying.

I carry the 1911 because it is chambered in .45ACP and I like that.
